1ΔιὰDiatherefore τοῦτοtouto. . . , δεῖdeimust περισσοτέρωςperissoterōsvvv ἡμᾶςhēmasus προσέχεινprosecheinpay closer attention , τοῖςtoisto what ἀκουσθεῖσι,akoustheisiwe have heard , Μὴ“ {Do} not ποτεpotevvv παραρρυῶμεν.pararruomenso that we do not drift away .
2εἰeiif γὰρgarFor hothe δι’di’by ἀγγέλωνangelōnangels λαληθεὶςlalētheisspoken λόγοςlogosmessage ἐγένετοegenetowas βέβαιοςbebaiosbinding , καὶkaiand πᾶσαpasaevery παράβασιςparabasistransgression καὶkaiand παρακοὴparakoēdisobedience ἔλαβενelabenreceived ἔνδικονendikon[its] just μισθαποδοσίανmisthapodosianpunishment ,
3πῶςpōshow ἡμεῖςhēmeisvvv ἐκφευξόμεθαekpheuxomethashall we escape τηλικαύτηςtēlikautēssuch a great ἀμελήσαντεςamelēsantesif we neglect σωτηρίαςsōtēriassalvation ? ἥτιςhētis[ This salvation ] ἀρχὴνarchēnfirst λαβοῦσαlabousawas λαλεῖσθαιlaleisthaiannounced διὰdiaby τοῦtouthe ΚυρίουKyriouLord , ὑπὸhypoby τῶνtōnthose who ἀκουσάντωνakousantōnheard [Him] , εἰςeisto ἡμᾶςhēmasus ἐβεβαιώθηebebaiōthēwas confirmed
4συνεπιμαρτυροῦντοςsynepimartyrountos[and] was affirmed τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouby God σημείοιςsēmeioissigns , τεtethrough καὶkai- τέρασιterasiwonders , καὶkai- ποικίλαιςpoikilaisvarious δυνάμεσιdynamesiby miracles , καὶkai- ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit ἉγίουHagiouof [the] Holy μερισμοῖςmerismoisdistributed κατὰkataaccording to τὴνtēn- αὐτοῦautouHis θέλησινthelēsinwill .
5ΟὐOu[it is] not γὰρgarFor ἀγγέλοιςangeloisto angels ὑπέταξεupetaxethat He has subjected τὴνtēnthe οἰκουμένηνoikoumenēnworld τὴνtēn- μέλλουσανmellousanto come , περὶperiabout ἧςhēswhich λαλοῦμενlaloumenwe are speaking .
6διεμαρτύρατοdiemartyratoit is testified δέdeBut πούpousomewhere τιςtis. . . λέγωνlegōnin these words : ΤίTi“ What ἐστινestinis ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman ὅτιhotithat μιμνῄσκῃmimnēskēYou are mindful αὐτοῦautouof him , ēor υἱὸςhuios[the] son ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof man ὅτιhotithat ἐπισκέπτῃepiskeptēYou care for αὐτόνautonhim ?
7ἠλάττωσαςēlattōsasYou made him a little lower αὐτὸνauton. . . βραχύbrachy. . . τιti. . . παρ’par’than ἀγγέλουςangelous[the] angels ; δόξῃdoxēwith glory καὶkaiand τιμῇtimēhonor ἐστεφάνωσαςestephanōsasYou crowned αὐτόνautonhim
8πάνταpantaeverything ὑπέταξαςhypetaxas[and] placed ὑποκάτωhypokatōunder τῶνtōn- ποδῶνpodōnfeet .” αὐτοῦautouhis ἘνEn[When God] γὰρgar- τῷ- ὑποτάξαιhypotaxaisubjected αὐτῷautōto him , τὰta- πάνταpantaall things οὐδὲνoudennothing ἀφῆκενaphēkenHe left αὐτῷautōto him , ἀνυπότακτονanypotaktonoutside of his control νῦνnynat present δὲdeYet οὔπωoupōvvv ὁρῶμενhorōmenwe do not see αὐτῷautōto him . πάνταpantaeverything ὑποτεταγμέναhypotetagmenasubject
9τὸνtonwho δὲdeBut βραχύbrachyvvv τιti. . . παρ’par’than ἀγγέλουςangelous[the] angels , ἠλαττωμένονēlattōmenonwas made a little lower βλέπομενblepomenwe see ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus , διὰdiabecause τὸto- πάθημαpathēmaHe suffered τοῦtou- θανάτουthanatoudeath , δόξῃdoxēwith glory καὶkaiand τιμῇtimēhonor ἐστεφανωμένονestephanōmenonnow crowned ὅπωςhopōsso that χάριτιcharitiby [the] grace ΘεοῦTheouof God ὑπὲρhyperfor παντὸςpantoseveryone . γεύσηταιgeusētaiHe might taste θανάτουthanatoudeath
10ἔπρεπεeprepeit was fitting γὰρgar- αὐτῷautōfor [God] , δι’di’for ὃνhonwhom τὰta- πάνταpanta- καὶkaiand δι’di’through οὗhouwhom τὰta- πάνταpantaall things [exist] , πολλοὺςpollousmany υἱοὺςhuioussons εἰςeisto δόξανdoxanglory , ἀγαγόνταagagontaIn bringing τὸνtonthe ἀρχηγὸνarchēgonauthor τῆςtēsof σωτηρίαςsōtēriassalvation {perfect} αὐτῶνautōntheir διὰdiathrough παθημάτωνpathēmatōnsuffering . τελειῶσαιteleiōsaito make
11hothe [One who] τεteboth γὰρgarFor ἁγιάζωνhagiazōnsanctifies καὶkaiand οἱhoithose who ἁγιαζόμενοιhagiazomenoiare sanctified ἐξexof ἑνὸςhenosthe same [family] . πάντεςpantes[are] δι’di’So ἣνhēn. . . αἰτίανaitian. . . οὐκoukvvv ἐπαισχύνεταιepaischynetai[Jesus] is not ashamed ἀδελφοὺςadelphousbrothers . αὐτοὺςautousthem καλεῖνkaleinto call
12λέγωνlegōnHe says : ἈπαγγελῶApangelō“ I will proclaim τὸto- ὄνομάonomaname σουsouYour τοῖςtoisto ἀδελφοῖςadelphoisbrothers ; μουmouMy ἐνenin μέσῳmesō. . . ἐκκλησίαςekklēsias[the] assembly .” ὑμνήσωhymnēsōI will sing Your praises σεse. . .
13ΚαὶKaiAnd πάλινpalinagain : ἘγὼEgō“ I ἔσομαιesomaiwill πεποιθὼςpepoithōsput [My] trust ἐπ’ep’in αὐτῷautōHim .” ΚαὶKaiAnd πάλινpalin[once] again : ἸδοὺIdou“ Here ἐγὼegō[am] I , καὶkaiand τὰtathe παιδίαpaidiachildren ha- μοιmoiMe .” ἔδωκενedōkenhas given ho- ΘεόςTheosGod
14ἘπεὶEpeisince οὖνounNow τὰtathe παιδίαpaidiachildren κεκοινώνηκεkekoinonekehave σαρκόςsarkosflesh καὶkaiand αἵματοςhaimatosblood , καὶkaiand αὐτὸςautosHe παραπλησίωςparaplēsiōs. . . μετέσχεmeteskheshared in τῶνtōn[their] αὐτῶνautōn[humanity] , ἵναhinaso that διὰdiaby τοῦtou[His] θανάτουthanatoudeath καταργήσῃkatargēsēHe might destroy τὸνtonhim who τὸtothe κράτοςkratospower ἔχονταechontaholds τοῦtou- θανάτουthanatouof death , τοῦτ’tout’that ἐστίestiI have τὸνtonthe διάβολονdiabolondevil ,
15καὶkaiand ἀπαλλάξῃapallaxēfree τούτουςtoutousthose ὅσοιhosoiwho φόβῳphobō[their] fear θανάτουthanatouof death . διὰdiaby παντὸςpantosall τοῦtou[their] ζῆνzēnlives ἔνοχοιenochoiheld ἦσανēsanwere δουλείαςdouleiasin slavery
16ΟὐOu[it is] not γὰρgarFor δήπουdipouof course ἀγγέλωνangelōn[the] angels ἐπιλαμβάνεταιepilambanetaiHe helps , ἀλλὰallabut σπέρματοςspermatos[the] descendants ἈβραὰμAbraamof Abraham . ἐπιλαμβάνεταιepilambanetai-
17ὅθενhothenFor this reason ὤφειλεopheileowed [him] κατὰkatain πάνταpantaevery way , τοῖςtois[His] ἀδελφοῖςadelphoisbrothers ὁμοιωθῆναιhomoiōthēnaito be made like ἵναhinaso that ἐλεήμωνeleēmōna merciful γένηταιgenētaiHe might become καὶkaiand πιστὸςpistosfaithful ἀρχιερεὺςarchiereushigh priest τὰta- πρὸςpros[in service] τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonto God , εἰςeisin order to τὸto- ἱλάσκεσθαιhilaskesthaimake atonement τὰςtasfor the ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassins τοῦtouof the λαοῦlaoupeople .
18ἐνen. . . . . . γὰρgarBecause πέπονθενpeponthensuffered αὐτὸςautosHe Himself πειρασθείςpeirastheiswhen He was tempted , δύναταιdynataiHe is able τοῖςtoisthose who are πειραζομένοιςpeirazomenoisbeing tempted . βοηθῆσαιboēthēsaito help
