3ἈκούετεAkouete“ Listen ἰδοὺidou. . . ! ἐξῆλθενexēlthenwent out hoA σπείρωνspeirōnfarmer σπεῖραιspeiraito sow his seed .
4καὶkaiAnd ἐγένετοegeneto- ἐνenas τῷ- σπείρεινspeireinhe was sowing , hosome [seed] μὲνmen- ἔπεσενepesenfell ἐπὶepion τὴνtēnthe ὁδόνhodonpath , καὶkaiand ἦλθονēlthonthey came τὰtathe πετεινὰpeteinabirds καὶkaiand κατέφαγενkatephagendevoured αὐτόautoit .
5ΚαὶKai- ἄλλοalloSome ἔπεσενepesenfell ἐπὶepion τὸto- πετρῶδεςpetrōdesrocky ground , ὅπουhopouwhere οὐκoukvvv εἶχεeikhewho had γῆνgēnsoil . πολλήνpollēnmuch καὶkai- εὐθέωςeutheōsat once . ἐξανέτειλεexaneteileIt sprang up διὰdiabecause τὸto. . . μὴwas shallow ἔχεινechein. . . βάθοςbathos. . . . γῆςgēsthe soil
6ἨλίουĒliouof Elijah , δὲdebut ἀνατείλαντοςanateilantos. . . , ἐκαυματίσθηekaumatisthē[the seedlings] were scorched , καὶkaiand διὰdiabecause τὸto- μὴno ἔχεινecheinthey had ῥίζανrhizanroot . ἐξηράνθηexēranthēthey withered
7καὶkaiand ἄλλοalloOther [ seed ] ἔπεσενepesenfell εἰςeisamong τὰςtas- ἀκάνθαςakanthasthorns , καὶkai- ἀνέβησανanebēsangrew up αἱhai- ἄκανθαιakanthai[which] καὶkaiand συνέπνιξανsynepnixanchoked αὐτόauto[the seedlings] , καὶkaiand καρπὸνkarponcrop . οὐκoukno ἔδωκε·edokegave [it]
8ΚαὶKaiStill ἄλλοalloOther [ seed ] ἔπεσενepesenfell εἰςeisamong τὴνtēn- γῆνgēnsoil , τὴνtēn- καλήνkalēngood καὶkai- ἐδίδουedidouproduced καρπὸνkarpona crop — ἀναβαίνονταanabainonta[where it] sprouted , καὶkai- αὐξανόμεναauxanomenagrew up , καὶkaiand ἔφερενepherenbearing ἓν*henone τριάκονταtriakontathirtyfold , καὶkai- ἓνhenanother ἑξήκονταhexēkontasixtyfold , καὶkaiand ἓνhenanother ἑκατόνhekatona hundredfold . ”
9ΚαὶKaiThen ἔλεγενelegen[Jesus] said , αὐτοῖςautois- , HoThe ἔχωνechōnhas ὦταōtaears ἀκούεινakoueinto hear , ἀκουέτωakouetōlet him hear . ”
10ὅτεhote. . . δὲdebut ἐγένετοegeneto[Jesus] was κατὰkatavvv μόναςmonasalone ἠρώτησανērōtēsanthey appealed αὐτὸνautonHim , οἱhoithose περὶperiaround αὐτὸνautonHim , σὺνsynand τοῖςtois[with] the δώδεκαdōdekaTwelve τὴνtēn- παραβολὴνparabolēnparable ?
11καὶkaiThen ἔλεγενelegenHe replied αὐτοῖςautois- , ὙμῖνHyminto you , δέδοταιdedotaihas been given γνῶναιgnōnai“ The knowledge τὰta- μυστήριαmystēriamysteries τῆςtēsof the βασιλείαςbasileiaskingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ἐκείνοιςekeinoisto those δὲdebut τοῖςtois- ἔξωexōon the outside ἐνenin παραβολαῖςparabolaisparables , τὰta- πάνταpantaeverything γίνεταιginetaiis expressed
12ἵναhinaso that , ΒλέποντεςBlepontes‘ vvv βλέπωσιbleposithey may not see ; καὶkai[but] μὴnever ἴδωσι,idosithey see καὶkai[but] ἀκούοντεςakouontesvvv ἀκούωσιakouosiever hearing ΚαὶKaiand μὴnever συνιῶσι,suniosithey may not understand .’ μήποτέmepotethat at not time, lest ever ἐπιστρέψωσιepistrepsosithey might turn καὶkai[but] ἀφεθῇaphethēbe forgiven αὐτοῖςautois. . . .’ ” τὰta- ἁμαρτήματαhamartēmatasins

14HoThe σπείρωνspeirōnfarmer τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword . σπείρειspeireisows

17καὶkaiBut οὐκoukno ἜχουσιEchousi‘ They have ῥίζανrhizanroot , ἐνen. . . ἑαυτοῖςheautois. . . ἀλλὰalla[and] πρόσκαιροίproskairoifor only a season . εἰσινeisinthey remain εἶταeitaWhen γενομένηςgenomenēscomes θλίψεωςthlipseōstrouble ēor διωγμοῦdiōgmoupersecution διὰdiabecause of τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword , εὐθὺςeuthysvvv σκανδαλίζονταιskandalizontaithey quickly fall away .

19ΚαὶKaiand αἱhai- μέριμναιmerimnaiworries τοῦtou- αἰῶνοςaiōnosof this life , τούτουtoutouvvv καὶkai- the ἀπάτηapatēdeceitfulness τοῦtouof πλούτουploutouwealth , καὶkaiand αἱhaithe περὶperifor τὰta- λοιπὰloipaother things ἐπιθυμίαιepithymiaidesire εἰσπορευόμεναιeisporeuomenaicome in συμπνίγουσιsumpnigousi[and] choke τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword , καὶkaiand ἄκαρποςakarposunfruitful . γίνεταιginetaiit becomes
20καὶkaiand οὗτοίhoutoi[They] εἰσινeisin. . . οἱhoi. . . ἐπὶepion τὴνtēn- γῆνgēnsoil . τὴνtēn- καλὴνkalēngood σπαρέντεςsparentessown οἵτινεςhoitines[They] ἀκούουσιakouousiwill listen , τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword , καὶkai- παραδέχονταιparadechontaireceive [it] , καὶkaiand καρποφοροῦσινkarpophorousinproduce a crop — ἓνhen- τριάκονταtriakontathirtyfold , καὶkai- ἓνhen- ἑξήκονταhexēkontasixtyfold , καὶkai[or] ἓνhena ἑκατόνhekatonhundredfold . ”
21ΚαὶKaivvv ἔλεγενelegen[Jesus] also said αὐτοῖςautoisto them , ΜήτιMētivvv ἔρχεταιerchetai“ Does [anyone] bring in hoa λύχνοςlychnoslamp ἵναhinato ὑπὸhypounder τὸνton- μόδιονmodiona basket τεθῇtethēput [it] ēor ὑπὸhypounder τὴνtēn- κλίνηνklinēna bed ? οὐχouchDoesn’t ἵναhina- ἐπὶepion τὴνtēn- λυχνίανlychniana stand ? ἐπὶepion τεθῇtethēhe set it
22οὐounothing γάρgarFor ἐστιestiis κρυπτὸνkryptonhidden hoa ἐὰνean- μὴwill not be φανερωθῇphanerōthēdisclosed , οὐδὲoudeand nothing ἐγένετοegenetovvv ἀπόκρυφονapokryphonconcealed ἀλλ’all’- ἵναhinathat ἔλθῃelthēwill [not] be brought εἰςeisto φανερόνphaneronlight .
23ΕἴEiIf τιςtisanyone ἔχειecheihas ὦταōtaears ἀκούεινakoueinto hear , ἀκουέτωakouetōlet him hear . ”
24ΚαὶKai- ἔλεγενelegenHe went on to say αὐτοῖςautois- , ΒλέπετεBlepete“ Pay attention to τίtiwhat ἀκούετεakoueteyou hear . ἐνenWith [the] μέτρῳmetrōmeasure μετρεῖτεmetreiteyou [use] , μετρηθήσεταιmetrēthēsetaiit will be measured ὑμῖνhyminto you , καὶkaiand προστεθήσεταιprostethēsetaieven more will be added ὑμῖνhyminto you . τοῖςtoisto His ἀκούουσινakouousinhear
25ὃςhoswhoever γὰρgarFor ἂνan. . . ἔχῃechēhas δοθήσεταιdothēsetaiwill be given αὐτῷautō[more] . καὶkai[But] ὃςhoswhoever οὐκoukvvv ἔχειecheidoes not have , καὶkaieven howhat ἔχειecheihe has ἀρθήσεταιarthēsetaiwill be taken away ἀπ’ap’from αὐτοῦautouhim . ”
26ΚαὶKaivvv ἔλεγενelegen[Jesus] also said , ΟὕτωςHoutōslike ἐστὶνestinis “ The βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ὡςhōs. . . ἂνan. . . ἄνθρωποςanthrōposa man βάλῃbalēwho scatters τὸνton- σπόρονsporonseed ἐπὶepion τῆςtēsthe γῆςgēsground .
27καὶkai- καθεύδῃkatheudēhe sleeps καὶkaiand ἐγείρηταιegeirētaiwakes , νύκταnyktaNight καὶkaiand ἡμέρανhēmeranday καὶkaiand hothe σπόροςsporosseed βλαστάνῃblastanesprouts καὶkaiand μηκύνηταιmēkynētaigrows , ὡςhōshow . οὐκouknot οἶδενoidenknows αὐτόςautos[though] he
28αὐτομάτηautomatēAll by itself the γῆearth καρποφορεῖkarpophoreiproduces a crop — πρῶτονprōtonfirst χόρτονchorton[the] stalk , εἶτα*eitathen στάχυνstachyn[the] head , εἶτα*eitathen πλήρηplere[who was] covered σῖτον*sitongrain ἐνenwithin τῷ. . . στάχυϊstachui. . . .
29ὅτανhotan. . . δὲdeAnd παραδῷparadōhe might betray hothe καρπόςkarposgrain εὐθέωςeutheōsat once . ἀποστέλλειapostelleihe swings τὸtothe δρέπανονdrepanonsickle , ὅτιhotibecause παρέστηκενparestēkenhas come . ” hothe θερισμόςtherismosharvest
30ΚαὶKaiThen ἔλεγε·elege[Jesus] declared ΠῶςPōs“ To what ὁμοιώσωμενhomoiōsōmencan we compare τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ? ē- ἐνenWith τίνιtiniwhat παραβολῇparabolēparable παραβάλωμενparabalomenparable αὐτὴνautēnit ?
31ὡςhōsIt is like κόκκονkokkonvvv σινάπεωςsinapeōs. . . , ὃςhoswhich ὅτανhotan- σπαρῇsparēsown ἐπὶepi. . . τῆςtēs. . . γῆςgēs. . . μικρότεροςmikroteros[the] least πάντωνpantōnof all τῶνtōn- σπερμάτωνspermatōnseeds ἐστὶestiis τῶνtōn- ἐπὶepi. . . τῆςtēs. . . γῆςgēs. . .
32καὶkaiBut ὅτανhotanafter σπαρῇsparēit is planted , ἀναβαίνειanabaineiit grows καὶkai- γίνεταιginetaito be μεῖζονmeizonthe largest πάντωνpantōnof all τῶνtōn- λαχάνωνlachanōngarden plants καὶkaiand ποιεῖpoieiputs forth κλάδουςkladousbranches , μεγάλουςmegalousgreat ὥστεhōsteso that δύνασθαιdynasthai- ὑπὸhypoin τὴνtēn- σκιὰνskianshade . ” αὐτοῦautouits τὰtathe πετεινὰpeteinabirds τοῦtouof the οὐρανοῦouranouair κατασκηνοῦν*kataskēnounnest
33ΚαὶKai- τοιαύταιςtoiautaisvvv παραβολαῖςparabolaisparables πολλαῖςpollaisWith many such ἐλάλειelalei[Jesus] spoke αὐτοῖςautoisto them , τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword καθὼςkathōsto the extent that ἠδύναντοēdynantothey could ἀκούεινakoueinunderstand .
34χωρὶςchōriswithout using δὲdeBut παραβολῆςparabolēsa parable . οὐκoukvvv ἐλάλειelaleiHe did not tell them [anything] αὐτοῖςautois. . . τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword κατ’kat’vvv ἰδίανidianprivately δὲdeBut τοῖςtoisto His μαθηταῖςmathētaisdisciples . αὐτοῦautouits ἐπέλυεepelueHe explained πάνταpantaeverything
35ΚαὶKaiWhen λέγειlegeiHe said αὐτοῖςautoisto [His disciples] , ἐνen- ἐκείνῃekeinēthat τῇ- ἡμέρᾳhēmeravvv ὀψίαςopsiasevening came , γενομένηςgenomenēsvvv ΔιέλθωμενDielthōmen“ Let us cross εἰςeisto τὸtothe πέρανperanother side . ”
36καὶkaiAfter ἀφέντεςaphentesthey had dismissed τὸνtonthe ὄχλονochloncrowd , παραλαμβάνουσινparalambanousinthey took [Jesus] with them αὐτὸνauton. . . , ὡςhōssince ἦνēnHe was already ἦνēnHe was already τῷthe πλοίῳploiōboat . καὶkaiAnd ἄλλαallaother δὲdeBut πλοῖαploiaboats ἦνēnthere were μετ’met’with αὐτοῦautouHim .
37ΚαὶKaiSoon γίνεταιginetaicame up , λαῖλαψlailapswindstorm ἀνέμουanemou. . . μεγάληmegalēa violent τὰtathe δὲdeBut κύματαkymatawaves ἐπέβαλλενepeballenwere breaking εἰςeisover τὸtothe πλοῖονploionboat , ὥστεhōsteso that ἤδηēdēvvv αὐτῷautō- , βυθίζεσθαιbythizesthaibegan to sink .
38καὶkaiand ἐνenin αὐτὸςautos[Jesus] ἐπὶepion τῇthe πρύμνῃprymnēstern , ἐπὶepion τὸtothe προσκεφάλαιονproskephalaioncushion . καθεύδωνkatheudōnsleeping καὶkai[So] διεγείρουσινdiegeirousinthey woke αὐτὸνautonHim καὶkaiand λέγουσινlegousinsaid αὐτῷautō- , ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskale“ Teacher , οὐouvvv μέλειmeleidon’t You care σοιsoi. . . ὅτιhotithat ἀπολλύμεθαapollymethawe are perishing ? ”
39ΚαὶKaiThen διεγερθεὶςdiegertheis[Jesus] got up ἐπετίμησεepetimese[and] rebuked τῷthe ἀνέμῳanemōwind καὶkaiand εἰπὲeipesay τῇthe θαλάσσῃthalassēsea . ΣιώπαSiōpa“ Silence ! ” πεφίμωσοpephimōso“ Be still ! ” καὶkaiAnd ἐκόπασενekopasendied down , hothe ἄνεμοςanemoswind καὶkaiand ἐγένετοegenetoit was γαλήνηgalēnēcalm . μεγάληmegalēperfectly
40καὶkaiand εἶπενeipenHe commanded . αὐτοῖςautois- . ΤίTi“ Why δειλοίdeiloiso afraid ? ” ἐστεesteare you οὕτω;outo[this] ΠῶςPōs“ To what οὐκouknot ἔχετεechete“ Do you still have no πίστινpistinfaith ? ”
41ΚαὶKai- ἐφοβήθησανephobēthēsanOverwhelmed with fear φόβονphobon. . . , μέγανmegan. . . καὶkai- ἔλεγονelegonthey asked πρὸςpros. . . ἀλλήλουςallēlousone another , ΤίςTis“ Who ἄραara- οὗτόςhoutosthis , ἐστινestinis ὅτιhotithat καὶkaieven hothe ἄνεμοςanemoswind καὶkaiand the θάλασσαthalassasea ὑπακούουσινhypakouousinthey obey αὐτῷautōHim ? ”
