11καὶkaiAnd ἐπηρώτωνepērōtōnthey asked αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] λέγοντεςlegontes- ὍτιHoti- , ΛέγουσινLegousinsay οἱhoi“ {Why do} the γραμματεῖςgrammateisscribes ὅτιhotithat ἨλίανĒlianElijah δεῖdeimust ἐλθεῖνeltheincome πρῶτονprōtonfirst ? ”
12ὉHo- δὲde- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisvvv εἶπενeipenhe said . αὐτοῖςautois- ἨλίαςĒliasElijah μὲνmen{does} indeed ἐλθὼνelthōncome πρῶτονprōtonfirst , ἀποκαθιστᾷapokathista[and] he restores πάνταpantaall things . καὶkaithen πῶςpōsWhy γέγραπταιgegraptaiis it written ἐπὶepi- τὸνtonthe ΥἱὸνHuionSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man ἵναhinathat πολλὰpollamany things πάθῃpathēmust suffer καὶkaiand ἐξουδενωθῇ;exoudenothebe rejected ?
13ἀλλὰallaBut λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhotithat καὶkaivvv ἨλίαςĒliasElijah ἐλήλυθε,eleluthecame καὶkaivvv ἐποίησανepoiēsanthey have done αὐτῷautōto him ὅσαhosawhatever ἠθέλησανēthelēsandesired καθὼςkathōsjust as γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written ἐπ’ep’about αὐτόνautonhim . ”
14ΚαὶKai[When] ἐλθὼνelthōncome πρὸςprosto τοὺςtousthe μαθητὰςmathētas[other] disciples , εἶδενeidensaw ὄχλονochloncrowd πολὺνpolyna large περὶperiaround αὐτοὺςautousthem , καὶkaiand γραμματεῖςgrammateisscribes συζητοῦνταςsyzētountasarguing αὐτοῖςautois. . . ,
15καὶkaithen εὐθέωςeutheōsat once . πᾶςpasall ὁhothe ὄχλοςochlospeople ἰδόντεςidontessaw αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] , ἐξεθαμβήθησανexethambēthēsanthey were filled with awe καὶkaiand προστρέχοντεςprostrechontesran ἠσπάζοντοēspazontoto greet αὐτόνautonHim .
16καὶkaiand ἐπηρώτησεeperoteseasked τοὺςtousthe γραμματεῖςgrammateisscribes ΤίTi“ What συζητεῖτεsyzēteiteare you disputing πρὸςproswith ἑαυτοὺςheautousthemselves ,
17καὶkai[So] ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisvvv εἰςeis. . . ἐκekfrom τοῦtouthe ὄχλουochloucrowd εἰπὲeipesay ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskale“ Teacher , ἤνεγκαēnenkaI brought τὸνton- υἱόνhuionson , μουmoumy πρὸςpros. . . σέseYou ἔχονταechontawho has πνεῦμαpneumaa spirit ἄλαλονalalon[that makes him] mute .
18καὶkai- ὅπουhopouWhenever ἂνan. . . αὐτῶνautōnthem . καταλάβῃkatalabēit seizes ῥήσσειrhēsseiit throws him to the ground αὐτόνauton. . . . καὶkai- ἀφρίζειaphrizeiHe foams at the mouth , καὶkai- τρίζειtrizeignashes τοὺςtous- ὀδόνταςodontashis teeth , αὐτοῦautou[the boy’s] ΚαὶKai- ξηραίνεταιxērainetaibecomes rigid . καὶkai- εἰπὼνeipōnHe said τοῖςtois- μαθηταῖςmathētaisdisciples σουsouYour ἵναhinato αὐτὸauto. . . , ἐκβάλωσι,ekbalosireject καὶkaibut οὐκoukvvv ἴσχυσανischysanthey were unable . ”
19ὮŌ“ O δὲde- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisreplied . αὐτὸauto. . . , λέγειlegei[Jesus] ὉHo- γενεὰgeneageneration ! ” ἄπιστοςapistosunbelieving ἕωςheōs“ How long πότεpote. . . πρὸςproswith ὑμᾶςhymasyou ? ἔσομαιesomaimust I remain ἕωςheōs“ How long πότεpote. . . ἀνέξομαιanexomaimust I put up with ὑμῶνhymōnyou ? φέρετεphereteBring αὐτὸνauton[the boy] πρόςprosto μεmeMe . ” ΚαὶKaiSo ἤνεγκανēnenkanthey brought αὐτὸνautonhim πρὸςpros- αὐτόνauton- ,
20καὶkaiand ἰδὼνidōnseeing αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] , εὐθέωςeutheōsat once . τὸtothe πνεῦμαpneumaspirit ἐσπάραξενesparaxenin a convulsion . αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] , καὶkaiand πεσὼνpesōnHe fell ἐπὶepito τῆςtēsthe γῆςgēsground ἐκυλίετοekylieto[and] rolled around , ἀφρίζωνaphrizōnfoaming at the mouth .
21ΚαὶKai- ἐπηρώτησεeperoteseasked τὸνton- πατέραpaterafather , αὐτοῦautou[the boy’s] ΠόσοςPosos“ How long χρόνοςchronos. . . ἐστὶνestin. . . ὡςhōs. . . τοῦτοtouto{has} this γέγονενgegonenbeen αὐτῷautōwith him ? ” ὉHo- δὲde- εἰπὲeipesay παιδιόθενpaidiothenchildhood , ”
22καὶkai“ - πολλάκιςpollakisvvv αὐτὸνautonhim καὶkai- εἰςeisinto πῦρpyr[the] fire ἔβαλεebaletossed καὶkai[or] εἰςeisinto ὕδαταhydata[the] water , ἵναhinatrying ἀπολέσῃapolesēto kill αὐτόνautonhim . ἀλλ’all’But εἴeiif τιtianything , δύνασαιdynasaican you βοήθησονboēthēson[and] help ἡμῖνhēminus . ” σπλαγχνισθεὶςsplanchnistheishave compassion ἐφ’eph’on ἡμᾶςhēmasus
23ὉHo- δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipenechoed αὐτῷautō- . τῷtōto him who ΕἰEi“ If δύνασαιdynasaican you πιστεῦσαιpisteusai[and] believe πάνταpanta“ All things δυνατὰdynataare possible τῷtōto him who πιστεύοντιpisteuontibelieves ! ”
24καὶkaiand εὐθέωςeutheōsat once . κράξαςkraxasAfter shrieking ὁho- πατὴρpatērfather τοῦtouvvv παιδίουpaidiouboy’s μετὰmetaafter δακρύωνdakruontears ἔλεγε·elege[Jesus] declared ΠιστεύωPisteuō“ I do believe ; ΚύριεKyrie‘ Lord , βοήθειboētheihelp μουmoumy τῇtē- ἀπιστίᾳapistiaunbelief ! ”
25ἸδὼνIdōnsaw δὲdeWhen ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ὅτιhotithat ἐπισυντρέχειepisyntrecheihad come running , ὄχλοςochlosa crowd ἐπετίμησεepetimese[and] rebuked τῷtōthe πνεύματιpneumatispirit . τῷtō- ἀκαθάρτῳakathartōunclean λέγωνlegōnHe said αὐτῷautō- , ΤὸTo- πνεῦμαpneumaspirit , ” ΤὸTo- ἄλαλονalalonmute καὶkaiand κωφὸνkōphon“ [You] deaf ἐγὼegō“ I σοιsoiyou ἐπιτάσσωepitassōcommand ἔξελθεexeltheto come ἐξexout αὐτοῦautou- καὶkaiand μηκέτιmēketinever εἰσέλθῃςeiselthēsenter εἰςeis. . . αὐτόνautonhim {again} . ”
26καὶkaiand κράξανkraxanthrew [the man] into convulsions καὶkaiand πολλὰpolla. . . σπαράξανsparaxanthrew [the man] into convulsions αὐτόνautonhim {again} . ” ἔξελθεexeltheto come καὶkaiand ἐγένετοegeneto[The boy] became ὡσεὶhōseilike νεκρὸςnekrosa corpse , ὥστεhōsteso that πολλοὺςpollousmany λέγεινlegeinsaid ὅτιhoti- , ἀπέθανενapethanen“ He is dead . ”
27ὁho- δὲdeBut ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus κρατήσαςkratēsastook αὐτόνauton. . . , τῆςtēsby the χειρὸςcheiroshand ἤγειρενēgeiren[and] helped him to his feet αὐτόνauton. . . , καὶkaiand ἀνέστηanestēhe stood up .
28ΚαὶKaiAfter εἰσελθόνταeiselthontathey go in αὐτόνauton. . . , εἰςeisinto οἶκονoikon[the] house , οἱhoi- μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples αὐτοῦautouHis ἐπηρώτωνepērōtōnasked αὐτόνautonHim κατ’kat’vvv ἰδίανidianprivately , ὍτιHoti“ Why ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe οὐκouk. . . ἠδυνήθημενēdynēthēmencouldn’t ἐκβαλεῖνekbaleindrive it out αὐτόauto. . . ? ”
29ΚαὶKai- εἶπενeipen[Jesus] answered αὐτοῖςautois- , ΤοῦτοTouto“ This τὸto- γένοςgenoskind ἐνen. . . οὐδενὶoudeni. . . δύναταιdynataicannot ἐξελθεῖνexeltheincome out , εἰeiexcept μὴmē. . . ἐνenby προσευχῇproseuchēprayer .” καὶkaiBut νηστείᾳ.nesteiafasting
30καὶkaiBut ἐκεῖθενekeithenthat area . ἐξελθόντεςexelthontesGoing on παρεπορεύοντοpareporeuontothey passed διὰdiathrough τῆςtēs- ΓαλιλαίαςGalilaiasGalilee . καὶkaiBut οὐκoukvvv ἤθελενēthelen[Jesus] did not want ἵναhina- τιςtisanyone γνῷ·gnofind out
31ἐδίδασκεedidaskeHe taught γὰρgarbecause τοὺςtous- μαθητὰςmathētasdisciples . αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkai- ἔλεγενelegenHe told αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ὅτιhoti“ - ὉHoThe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man παραδίδοταιparadidotaiwill be delivered εἰςeisinto χεῖραςcheiras[the] hands ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnof men . καὶkai- ἀποκτενοῦσινapoktenousinThey will kill αὐτόνautonHim , καὶkaiand ἀποκτανθεὶςapoktantheis- τῇtēthe τρίτῃtritēthird ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday , ἀναστήσεταιanastēsetaiHe will rise . ”
32οἱhoi- δὲdeBut ἠγνόουνēgnoounthey did not understand τὸtothis ῥῆμαrhēmastatement , καὶkaiand ἐφοβοῦντοephobountothey were afraid αὐτὸνautonHim [about it] . ἐπερωτῆσαιeperōtēsaito ask
33ΚαὶKaiThen ἦλθενēlthencame εἰςeisto Καπερναούμ·kapernaoumCapernaum . ΚαὶKai- ἐνenin τῇtēthe οἰκίᾳoikiahouse , γενόμενοςgenomenosWhile [Jesus] was ἐπηρώταepērōtaHe asked αὐτούςautousthem , ΤίTi“ What ἐνenon τῇtēthe ὁδῷhodōway ? ” πρὸςpros. . . ἑαυτοὺςheautousthemselves , διελογίζεσθεdielogizesthewere you discussing
34οἱhoi- δὲdeBut ἐσιώπωνesiōpōnthey were silent , πρὸςpros. . . ἀλλήλουςallēlous. . . γὰρgarfor διελέχθησανdielechthēsanthey had been arguing about ἐνenon τῇtēthe ὁδῷhodōway τίςtiswhich [of them was] μείζωνmeizōn[the] greatest .
35ΚαὶKai- καθίσαςkathisasSitting down , ἐφώνησεephonese[and] called out τοὺςtousthe δώδεκαdōdekaTwelve καὶkaiand λέγειlegeisaid αὐτοῖςautois- , ΕἴEi“ If τιςtisanyone θέλειtheleiwants πρῶτοςprōtosfirst , εἶναιeinaito be ἔσταιestaihe must be πάντωνpantōnof all ἔσχατοςeschatos[the] last καὶkaiand πάντωνpantōnof all διάκονοςdiakonos[the] servant
