2ΧάριςCharisGrace ὑμῖνhyminto you καὶkaiand εἰρήνηeirēnēpeace ἀπὸapofrom ΘεοῦTheouGod ΠατρὸςPatrosFather ἡμῶνhēmōnour καὶkaiand ΚυρίουKyriou[the] Lord ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist .
3ΕὐλογητὸςEulogētosBlessed [be] ὁhothe ΘεὸςTheosGod καὶkaiand ΠατὴρPatērFather τοῦtou- ΚυρίουKyriouLord ἡμῶνhēmōnof our ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist , ὁhothe ΠατὴρPatērFather τῶνtōn- οἰκτιρμῶνoiktirmōnof compassion καὶkaiand ΘεὸςTheos[the] God πάσηςpasēsof all παρακλήσεωςparaklēseōscomfort ,
4ὁhowho παρακαλῶνparakalōncomforts ἡμᾶςhēmasus ἐνenin πάσῃpasēany τῇtē- θλίψειthlipseitroubles , ἡμῶνhēmōnour εἰςeisso that τὸto- δύνασθαιdynasthaican ἡμᾶςhēmaswe παρακαλεῖνparakaleincomfort τοὺςtousthose ἐνenin πάσῃpasēany θλίψειthlipseitrouble διὰdiawith τῆςtēsthe παρακλήσεωςparaklēseōscomfort ἧςhēs- παρακαλούμεθαparakaloumetha[have received] αὐτοὶautoiwe ourselves ὑπὸhypofrom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod .
5ὅτιhotiFor καθὼςkathōsjust as περισσεύειperisseueioverflow τὰtathe παθήματαpathēmatasufferings τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ εἰςeisto ἡμᾶςhēmasus , οὕτωhoutōso διὰdiathrough ΧριστοῦChristouChrist περισσεύειperisseueioverflows . καὶkaialso ἡhē- παράκλησιςparaklēsiscomfort ἡμῶνhēmōnour
6ΕἴτεEiteIf δὲde- θλιβόμεθαthlibomethawe are afflicted , ὑπὲρhyper[it is] for τῆςtēs- ὑμῶνhymōnyour παρακλήσεωςparaklēseōscomfort καὶkaiand σωτηρίαςsōtēriassalvation ; τῆςtēs- ἐνεργουμένηςenergoumenēsaccomplishes ἐνenin you ὑπομονῇhypomonēpatient endurance τῶνtōnof the αὐτῶνautōnsame παθημάτωνpathēmatōnsufferings ὧνhōn- καὶkai- ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe πάσχομενpaschomenexperience . καὶkaiAnd ἡhē- ἐλπὶςelpishope ἡμῶνhēmōnour βεβαίαbebaia[is] sure , ὑπὲρhyperfor ὑμῶνhymōnyou εἴτεeiteif παρακαλούμεθαparakaloumethawe are comforted , ὑπὲρhyper[it is] for τῆςtēs- ὑμῶνhymōnyour παρακλήσεωςparaklēseōscomfort , καὶkaiand σωτηρίαςsōtēriassalvation ;
7εἰδότεςeidotes[because] we know ὅτιhotithat ὥσπερhōsperlike κοινωνοίkoinōnoiyou share ἐστεestevvv τῶνtōnin [our] παθημάτωνpathēmatōnsufferings , οὕτωhoutōso καὶkaialso [you will share] τῆςtēsin [our] παρακλήσεωςparaklēseōscomfort .
8ΟὐOuvvv γὰρgar- θέλομενthelomenWe do not want ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἀγνοεῖνagnoeinto be unaware , ἀδελφοίadelphoibrothers , ὑπὲρhyperof τῆςtēsthe θλίψεωςthlipseōshardships ἡμῶνhēmōnwe τῆςtēs- γενομένηςgenomenēsencountered ἡμῖνhēminus , ἐνenin τῇtē- ἈσίᾳAsia[the province of] Asia . ὅτιhoti- καθ’kath’. . . ὑπερβολὴνhyperbolēnfar beyond ἐβαρήθημενebarēthēmenWe were under a burden ὑπὲρhyper. . . δύναμινdynaminour ability to endure , ὥστεhōsteso that ἐξαπορηθῆναιexaporēthēnaidespaired ἡμᾶςhēmaswe καὶkaieven τοῦtouof ζῆνzēnlife .
9ἀλλὰallaIndeed , αὐτοὶautoiwe ἐνenvvv ἑαυτοῖςheautoiswe were under τὸtothe ἀπόκριμαapokrimasentence τοῦtou- θανάτουthanatouof death , ἐσχήκαμενeschēkamenfelt ἵναhinain order that μὴmēvvv πεποιθότεςpepoithotestrust ὦμενōmenwe would not ἐφ’eph’in ἑαυτοῖςheautoisourselves , ἀλλ’all’but ἐπὶepiin τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōGod , τῷtōwho ἐγείροντιegeirontiraises τοὺςtousthe νεκρούςnekrousdead .
10ὃςhos[He] ἐκekfrom τηλικούτουtēlikoutousuch a deadly peril θανάτουthanatou. . . , ἐρρύσατοerrysatohas delivered ἡμᾶςhēmasus καὶkaiand ῥύεται,ruetaiwill rescue εἰςeisIn ὃνhon[Him] ἠλπίκαμενēlpikamenwe have placed our hope ὅτιhotithat καὶkai- ἔτιeti. . . , ῥύσεταιrhysetaiHe will yet again deliver [us]
11συνυπουργούντωνsynypourgountōnhelp καὶkai- ὑμῶνhymōnas you ὑπὲρhyper- ἡμῶνhēmōnus τῇtēby δεήσειdeēsei[your] prayers . ἵναhinaThen ἐκekfor πολλῶνpollōnmany προσώπωνprosōpōn. . . τὸtothe εἰςeis. . . ἡμᾶςhēmasus χάρισμαcharismafavor shown διὰdiain answer to πολλῶνpollōn[ their prayers ] . εὐχαριστηθῇeucharistēthēwill give thanks ὑπὲρhyperon ἡμῶνhēmōnour behalf
12ἩHē- γὰρgarAnd καύχησιςkauchēsisboast : ἡμῶνhēmōnOur αὕτηhautēthis ἐστίestiI have τὸtothe μαρτύριονmartyriontestifies τῆςtēs- συνειδήσεωςsyneidēseōsconscience ἡμῶνhēmōnOur ὅτιhotithat ἐνenin ἁπλότητιhaplotētilet him give generously ; καὶkaiand εἰλικρινείᾳeilikrineiasincerity ΘεοῦTheou[are from] God — οὐκouknot ἐνenin σοφίᾳsophiawisdom , σαρκικῇsarkikēworldly ἀλλ’all’but ἐνenin χάριτιchariti[the] grace ΘεοῦTheouof God . ἀνεστράφημενanestraphēmenwe have conducted ourselves ἐνenin τῷtōthe κόσμῳkosmōworld , περισσοτέρωςperissoterōsespecially δὲdeand πρὸςprosin relation to ὑμᾶςhymasyou ,
13οὐou. . . γὰρgarFor ἄλλαallathat is beyond γράφομενgraphomenwe do not write you anything ὑμῖνhymin. . . ἀλλ’all’. . . ἢē. . . ἃha. . . ἀναγινώσκετεanaginōsketeyour ability to read ἢē[and] καὶkai. . . ἐπιγινώσκετεepiginōsketeunderstand . ἐλπίζωelpizōI hope δὲdeAnd ὅτιhotithat καὶkai. . . ἕωςheōsvvv τέλουςtelouscompletely , ἐπιγνώσεσθεepignōsestheyou will understand [us]
14καθὼςkathōsas καὶkaivvv ἐπέγνωτεepegnōteyou have already understood ἡμᾶςhēmasus ἀπὸapoin μέρουςmerouspart , ὅτιhotiso that καύχημαkauchēmamay boast ὑμῶνhymōnyou ἐσμενesmenof us καθάπερkathaperjust as καὶkaivvv ὑμεῖςhymeis[ will boast ] of you ἡμῶνhēmōnwe ἐνenin τῇtēthe ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday τοῦtou- ΚυρίουKyriouLord ἸησοῦIēsouJesus .
15ΚαὶKai- ταύτῃtautēof this , τῇtē- πεποιθήσειpepoithēseiConfident ἐβουλόμηνeboulomēnI planned πρὸςpros. . . ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἐλθεῖνeltheinto visit πρότερονproteronfirst , ἵναhinaso that δευτέρανdeuterana double χάρινcharinblessing . ἜχετέEchete“ Do you have
16καὶkai[I wanted] δι’di’vvv ὑμῶνhymōnyou διελθεῖνdieltheinto visit εἰςeison my way to ΜακεδονίανMakedonianMacedonia , καὶkaiand πάλινpalin. . . ἀπὸapofrom ΜακεδονίαςMakedoniasMacedonia , ἐλθεῖνeltheinto return πρὸςprosto ὑμᾶςhymasyou καὶkaiand then ὑφ’hyph’[to have] ὑμῶνhymōnyou προπεμφθῆναιpropemphthēnaihelp me on my way εἰςeisto τὴνtēn- ἸουδαίανIoudaianJudea .
17ΤοῦτοToutothis , οὖνoun- βουλόμενοςboulomenosWhen I planned μήτιmētivvv ἄραara- τῇtē- ἐλαφρίᾳelaphriacarelessly ? ἐχρησάμηνechrēsamēndid I do it ἢēOr ἃha. . . βουλεύομαιbouleuomai. . . κατὰkataby σάρκαsarkahuman standards , βουλεύομαιbouleuomai. . . ἵναhinaso as [to say] ᾖēreally mean παρ’par’vvv ἐμοὶemoiwhen I τόto. . . ναὶnaiyes ” ναὶnaiyes ” καὶkai- τὸto- ΟὔOu“ No , ΟὔOu“ No ,
18πιστὸςpistosfaithful , δὲdeBut [as surely as] ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod [is] ὅτιhoti- ὁho- λόγοςlogosmessage ἡμῶνhēmōnour ὁho- πρὸςprosto ὑμᾶςhymasyou οὐκouknot ἐγένετοegenetowas ΝαίNai“ Yes ” καὶkaiand ΟὔOu“ No , ”
19ὁhowho γὰρgarFor τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , ΥἱὸςHuiosSon ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΧριστὸςChristosChrist , ὁhowho ἐνenamong ὑμῖνhyminyou δι’di’- ἡμῶνhēmōn- κηρυχθείςkērychtheiswas proclaimed δι’di’- ἐμοῦemoume καὶkaiand ΣιλουανοῦSilouanouSilvanus καὶkaiand ΤιμοθέουTimotheouTimothy , οὐκouknot ἐγένετοegenetowas ΝαίNai“ Yes ” καὶkaiand ΟὔOu“ No , ” ἀλλὰallabut ΝαίNai“ Yes ” ἐνenin αὐτῷautōHim γέγονενgegonenit has always been
20ὅσαιhosaiall γὰρgarFor ἐπαγγελίαιepangeliai[the] promises ΘεοῦTheouof God ἐνenin αὐτῷautō[Christ] . τὸto[are] ΝαίNai“ Yes ” καὶkaiAnd ἐνenin αὐτῷautō[Christ] . τὸto[are] ἈμὴνAmēn“ Amen ” τὸto[our] ΘεῷTheōof God . πρὸςprosto δόξανdoxan[the] glory δι’di’vvv ἡμῶνhēmōnis spoken
21ὉHowho δὲdeNow βεβαιῶνbebaiōnestablishes ἡμᾶςhēmas[both] us σὺνsynand ὑμῖνhyminyou εἰςeisin ΧριστὸνChristonChrist . καὶkai- χρίσαςchrisasHe anointed ἡμᾶςhēmasus , ΘεόςTheos[it is] God
22ὉHowho καὶkai- σφραγισάμενοςsphragisamenosplaced His seal ἡμᾶςhēmason us , καὶkaiand δοὺςdousput τὸνton- ἀρραβῶναarrabōnaas a pledge of what is to come . τοῦtou[His] ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit ἐνenin ταῖςtais- καρδίαιςkardiaishearts ἡμῶνhēmōnour
23ἘγὼEgōI δὲde- μάρτυραmartyrawitness τὸνton- ΘεὸνTheonGod ἐπικαλοῦμαιepikaloumaicall ἐπὶepias τὴνtēn. . . ἐμὴνemēnmy ψυχήνpsychēn. . . ὅτιhotithat [it was in order] φειδόμενοςpheidomenosto spare ὑμῶνhymōnyou οὐκέτιouketi. . . ἦλθονēlthon[that] I did not return εἰςeisto ΚόρινθονKorinthonCorinth .
24οὐχouchNot ὅτιhotithat κυριεύομενkyrieuomenwe lord it over ὑμῶνhymōnyour τῆςtēs- πίστεωςpisteōsfaith , ἀλλὰallabut συνεργοίsynergoifellow workers ἐσμενesmenwe are τῆςtēsfor χαρᾶςcharas[your] joy , ὑμῶνhymōnwith you τῇtēby γὰρgarbecause [it is] πίστειpisteifaith [that] ἑστήκατεhestēkateyou stand firm .
