2καὶkai- δήσαντεςdēsantesThey bound αὐτὸνautonHim , ἀπήγαγονapēgagonled [Him] away , καὶkaiand παρέδωκανparedōkanhanded [Him] over to αὐτὸνautonHim , ΠοντίῳpontioPontius ΠιλάτῳPilatōPilate τῷthe ἡγεμόνιhēgemonigovernor .
3ΤότεToteWhen ἰδὼνidōnsaw ἸούδαςIoudasJudas , howho παραδιδοὺς*paradidoushad betrayed Him αὐτὸνauton. . . , ὅτιhotithat κατεκρίθηkatekrithē[Jesus] was condemned , μεταμεληθεὶςmetamelētheishe was filled with remorse ἀπέστρεψεapestrepse[and] returned τὰtathe τριάκονταtriakontathirty ἀργύριαargyriapieces of silver τοῖςtoisto the ἀρχιερεῦσιarkhiereusichief priests καὶkaiand πρεσβυτέροιςpresbyteroiselders .
4λέγωνlegōnhe said . ἭμαρτονHēmarton“ I have sinned παραδοὺςparadousby betraying αἷμαhaimablood , ” ἀθῷονathōoninnocent ΟἱHoi- δὲde- εἰπὼνeipōnHe said ΤίTi“ What [is that] πρὸςprosto ἡμᾶςhēmasus ? ” σὺsy“ You ὄψει.opseibear the responsibility . ”
5ΚαὶKaiSo ῥίψαςrhipsas[Judas] threw τὰtathe ἀργύριαargyriasilver ἐνenvvv τῷvvv ναῷnaōtemple . ἀνεχώρησε,anekhoresewithdrew ΚαὶKaiAnd ἀπελθὼνapelthōnThen he went away ἀπήγξατοapēnxatohanged himself .
6ΟἱHoiThe δὲde- ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests λαβόντεςlabontespicked up τὰtathe ἀργύριαargyriapieces of silver εἰπὼνeipōnHe said ΟὐκOuk“ vvv ἔξεστιexestiis unlawful βαλεῖνbaleinto put αὐτὰautathis εἰςeisinto τὸνtonthe κορβανᾶνkorbanantreasury , ἐπεὶepeisince τιμὴtimēmoney . ” αἵματόςhaimatosblood ἐστι.estiis
7συμβούλιονsymboulion. . . , δὲde[After] λαβόντεςlabontesconferring together ἠγόρασανēgorasanto buy ἐξex[they used] αὐτῶνautōn[the money] τὸνtonthe ἀγρὸνagronfield τοῦtouvvv κεραμέωςkerameōspotter’s εἰςeisas ταφὴνtaphēna burial place τοῖςtoisfor ξένοιςxenoisforeigners .
8διὸdioThat is why ἐκλήθηeklēthēhas been called ho- ἀγρὸςagros[it] ἐκεῖνοςekeinos- ἀγρὸςagros[it] αἵματοςhaimatosof Blood ἕωςheōsto τῆςtēs- σήμερονsēmeronthis day .
9τότεtoteThen ἐπληρώθηeplērōthēwas fulfilled τὸtowhat ῥηθὲνrhēthenwas spoken διὰdiathrough ἸερεμίουIeremiouJeremiah τοῦtouthe προφήτουprophētouprophet λέγοντοςlegontos- : ΚαὶKai“ - ἔλαβονelabonThey took τὰtathe τριάκονταtriakontathirty ἀργύριαargyriapieces of silver , τὴνtēnthe τιμὴνtimēnprice τοῦtouset on Him τετιμημένουtetimēmenou. . . ὃνhon. . . ἐτιμήσαντοetimēsanto. . . ἀπὸapoby υἱῶνhuiōn[the] people ἸσραήλIsraēlof Israel ,
10καὶkaiand ἔδωκανedōkanthey gave αὐτὰautathem εἰςeisfor τὸνtonthe ἀγρὸνagronfield , τοῦtouvvv κεραμέωςkerameōspotter’s καθὰkathaas συνέταξέsunetaxehad commanded μοιmoime .” ΚύριοςKyrios[the] Lord
11Ho- δὲdeMeanwhile ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἔστηestē[and] stood [there] . ἔμπροσθενemprosthenbefore τοῦtouthe ἡγεμόνοςhēgemonosgovernor , καὶkai- ἐπηρώτησενepērōtēsenquestioned αὐτὸνautonHim howho ἡγεμὼνhēgemōn- λέγωνlegōn- : ΣὺSyYou εἶei“ Are hothe ΒασιλεὺςBasileusKing τῶνtōnof the ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJews ? ” hothe δὲde- ἔφηephēreplied . αὐτῷautōHim , ΣὺSy“ You λέγειςlegeishave said [so] , ”
12ΚαὶKaiAnd ἐνenvvv τῷvvv κατηγορεῖσθαιkatēgoreisthaiwhen He was accused αὐτὸνautonvvv ὑπὸhypoby τῶνtōnthe ἀρχιερέωνarchiereōnchief priests καὶkaiand τῶνtōnthe πρεσβυτέρωνpresbyterōnelders , οὐδὲνouden. . . . ἀπεκρίνατοapekrinatoHe gave no answer
13ΤότεToteThen λέγειlegeiasked αὐτῷautōHim , ho- ΠιλᾶτοςPilatosPilate ΟὐκOuk“ vvv ἀκούειςakoueisDo You not hear πόσαposahow many σουsouYou ? ” καταμαρτυροῦσι;katamarturousicharges they are bringing against
14ΚαὶKaiBut οὐκoukvvv ἀπεκρίθηapekrithē[Jesus] gave no answer αὐτῷautō. . . , πρὸςprosto οὐδὲoudenot even ἓνhena single ῥῆμαrhēmacharge , ὥστεhōsteto θαυμάζεινthaumazeinamazement . τὸνtonthe ἡγεμόναhēgemonagovernor’s λίανlianmuch
15ΚατὰKataat δὲdeNow τὴνtēnthe ἑορτὴνheortēn[the] feast εἰώθειeiōtheicustom ho[it was] the ἡγεμὼνhēgemōngovernor’s ἀπολύεινapolyeinto release ἕναhenaa τῷto the ὄχλῳochlōcrowd δέσμιονdesmionprisoner ὃνhonof ἤθελονēthelontheir choosing .
16εἶχονeichonthey were holding δὲde- τότεtoteAt that time δέσμιονdesmionprisoner ἐπίσημονepisēmona notorious λεγόμενονlegomenonnamed ΒαραββᾶνBarabbanBarabbas .
17συνηγμένωνsynēgmenōnwhen [the crowd] had assembled , οὖνounSo αὐτῶνautōnvvv εἶπενeipenasked αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ho- ΠιλᾶτοςPilatosPilate ΤίναTina“ Which [one] θέλετεtheletedo you want ἀπολύσωapolysōme to release ὑμῖνhyminto you : ΒαραββᾶνBarabbanBarabbas , ēor ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus τὸνtonwho λεγόμενονlegomenonis called ΧριστόνChristonChrist ? ”
18ᾔδειēdeihe knew γὰρgarFor ὅτιhoti[it was] διὰdiaout of φθόνονphthononenvy [that] παρέδωκανparedōkanthey had handed [Jesus] over αὐτόνautonto him .
19ΚαθημένουKathēmenou[Pilate] was sitting δὲde[While] αὐτοῦautouvvv ἐπὶepion τοῦtouthe βήματοςbēmatosjudgment seat , ἀπέστειλεapesteileHe sent them out πρὸςpros- αὐτὸνautonhim - γυνὴgynēwife αὐτοῦautouhis λέγουσαlegousathis message : ΜηδὲνMēden“ Have nothing to do with σοὶsoi. . . καὶkai. . . τῷ- δικαίῳdikaiōinnocent [man] , ἐκείνῳekeinōthat πολλὰpollaterribly γὰρgarfor ἔπαθονepathonI have suffered σήμερονsēmerontoday κατ’kat’in ὄναρonara dream δι’di’because of αὐτόνautonHim . ”
20ΟἱHoithe δὲdeBut ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests καὶkaiand οἱhoi- πρεσβύτεροιpresbyteroielders ἔπεισανepeisanpersuaded τοὺςtousthe ὄχλουςochlouscrowds ἵναhinato αἰτήσωνταιaitēsōntaiask for τὸνton- ΒαραββᾶνBarabbanBarabbas τὸνton- δὲdeand ἸησοῦνIēsoun. . . . ἀπολέσωσινapolesōsinto have Jesus put to death
21ἈποκριθεὶςApokritheisasked δὲde- hothe ἡγεμὼνhēgemōngovernor εἶπενeipen- αὐτοῖςautois- . ΤίναTina“ Which θέλετεtheletedo you want ἀπὸapoof τῶνtōnthe δύοdyotwo ἀπολύσωapolysōme to release ὑμῖνhyminto you ? ” ΟἱHoi- δὲde- εἰπὼνeipōnHe said ΒαραββᾶνBarabbanBarabbas , ”
22ΛέγειLegeiasked αὐτοῖςautois- . ho- ΠιλᾶτοςPilatosPilate ΤίTi“ What οὖνounthen ποιήσωpoiēsōshould I do with ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus τὸνtonwho λεγόμενονlegomenonis called ΧριστόνChristonChrist ? ” ΛέγουσινLegousinThey all answered , αὐτῷautōon Him . πάντεςpantesvvv ΣταυρωθήτωStaurōthētō“ Crucify Him ! ”
23Ho- δὲde- ἡγεμὼνhēgemōngovernor ἔφηephēasked [Pilate] . ΤίTi“ What γὰρgar“ Why ? ” κακὸνkakonevil ἐποίησενepoiēsenhas He done ? ” ΟἱHoi- δὲdeBut περισσῶςperissōsall the louder ἔκραζονekrazonthey shouted λέγοντεςlegontes- , ΣταυρωθήτωStaurōthētō“ Crucify Him ! ”
24ἸδὼνIdōnsaw δὲdeWhen ho- ΠιλᾶτοςPilatosPilate ὅτιhotithat οὐδὲνoudennothing , ὠφελεῖōpheleihe was accomplishing ἀλλὰallabut that μᾶλλονmalloninstead θόρυβοςthorybosa riot γίνεταιginetaiwas breaking out , λαβὼνlabōnhe took ὕδωρhydōrwater ἀπενίψατοapenipsato[and] washed τὰςtas[his] χεῖραςcheirashands ἀπέναντι*apenantibefore τοῦtouthe ὄχλουochloucrowd . λέγωνlegōnhe said . ἈθῷόςAthōosinnocent εἰμιeimi“ I am ἀπὸapoof τοῦtou[man’s] αἵματοςhaimatosblood , ” τοῦtou[man’s] δικαίουdikaiourighteous τούτουtoutouthis ὑμεῖςhymeis“ You ὄψεσθεopsesthebear the responsibility .”
25ΚαὶKai- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisanswered πᾶςpasAll hothe λαὸςlaospeople εἰπὲeipesay ΤὸTo- αἷμαhaimablood αὐτοῦautou“ His ἐφ’eph’[be] on ἡμᾶςhēmasus καὶkaiand ἐπὶepion τὰta- τέκναteknachildren ! ” ἡμῶνhēmōnour
26ΤότεTote[So] ἀπέλυσενapelysen[Pilate] released αὐτοῖςautoisto them . τὸνton- ΒαραββᾶνBarabbanBarabbas τὸνton- δὲdeBut ἸησοῦνIēsoun. . . , φραγελλώσαςphragellōsashe had Jesus flogged παρέδωκενparedōken[and] handed Him over ἵναhinato σταυρωθῇstaurōthēbe crucified .
27ΤότεToteThen οἱhoithe στρατιῶταιstratiōtaisoldiers τοῦtou- ἡγεμόνοςhēgemonosgovernor’s παραλαβόντεςparalabontestook τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus εἰςeisinto τὸtothe πραιτώριονpraitōrionPraetorium συνήγαγονsynēgagon[and] gathered ἐπ’ep’around αὐτὸνautonHim . ὅληνholēnwhole τὴνtēnthe σπεῖρανspeirancompany
28καὶkai- ἐκδύσαντεςekdysantesThey stripped αὐτὸνautonHim περιέθηκανperiethēkan[and] put αὐτῷautōon Him . χλαμύδαchlamydarobe κοκκίνηνkokkinēna scarlet
29καὶkaiAnd πλέξαντεςplexantesthey twisted together στέφανονstephanona crown ἐξexof ἀκανθῶνakanthōnthorns ἐπέθηκανepethēkan[and] set [it] ἐπὶepion τὴνtēnthe κεφαλὴνkephalēnhead {repeatedly} . αὐτοῦautouHim καὶkaiand κάλαμονkalamonstaff ἐπὶepion τὴνtēnthe δεξιὰνdexianright αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkai[They put] γονυπετήσαντεςgonypetēsantesknelt down ἔμπροσθενemprosthenbefore αὐτοῦautouHim ἐνέπαιζονenepaizonbegan to mock αὐτῷautōHim , λέγοντεςlegontessaying , ΧαῖρεChaire“ Hail , howhich ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣBASILEUSKING ΤΩΝTŌNOF THE ΙΟΥΔΑΙΩΝIOUDAIŌNJEWS .
30καὶkaiand ἐμπτύσαντεςemptysantesthey spit εἰςeison αὐτὸνautonHim ἔλαβονelabon[and] took τὸνtonthe κάλαμονkalamonstaff καὶkaiand ἔτυπτονetyptonstruck εἰςeison τὴνtēnthe κεφαλὴνkephalēnhead {repeatedly} . αὐτοῦautouHim
31καὶkaiand ὅτεhote. . . ἐνέπαιξανenepaixanthey had mocked αὐτῷautōHim , ἐξέδυσανexedysanthey removed αὐτὸνauton- τὴνtēnthe χλαμύδαchlamydarobe καὶkaiand ἐνέδυσανenedysanput αὐτὸνauton[back] on Him . τὰta[own] ἱμάτιαhimatiaclothes αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkaiand ἀπήγαγονapēgagonthey led Him away αὐτὸνauton- εἰςeisto τὸto- σταυρῶσαιstaurōsaicrucify [Him] .
32ἘξερχόμενοιExerchomenoi. . . δὲdeAlong the way εὗρονheuronthey found ἄνθρωπονanthrōpona man ΚυρηναῖονKyrēnaionfrom Cyrene , ὀνόματιonomatinamed ΣίμωναSimōnaSimon , τοῦτονtoutonhim ἠγγάρευσανēngareusan[and] they forced ἵναhinato ἄρῃarēcarry τὸνtonthe σταυρὸνstauroncross αὐτοῦautouof [Jesus] .
33ΚαὶKaiAnd [when] ἐλθόντεςelthontesthey came εἰςeisto τόπονtopona place λεγόμενονlegomenoncalled ΓολγοθᾶGolgothaGolgotha , howhich ἐστιestiis λεγόμενοςlegomenos. . . κρανίουkraniouof the Skull , τόποςtoposThe Place
34ἔδωκανedōkanthey offered αὐτῷautōHim πιεῖνpieinto drink , ὄξοςoxossour wine . μετὰmetawith χολῆςcholēsgall ; μεμιγμένονmemigmenonmixed καὶkaibut γευσάμενοςgeusamenosafter tasting [it] , οὐκouk. . . ἤθελεethelerefused πιεῖνpieinto drink [it] .
35ΣταυρώσαντεςStaurōsantesthey had crucified δὲdeWhen αὐτὸνautonHim , διεμερίσαντοdiemerisantothey divided up τὰta- ἱμάτιαhimatiagarments αὐτοῦautouHis βάλοντεςbalontesby casting κλῆρονklēronlots .
36καὶkaiAnd καθήμενοιkathēmenoisitting down , ἐτήρουνetērounthey kept watch over αὐτὸνautonHim ἐκεῖekeithere .
37καὶkaiAnd ἐπέθηκανepethēkanthey posted ἐπάνωepanōAbove τῆςtēs- κεφαλῆςkephalēshead αὐτοῦautouHis τὴνtēnthe αἰτίανaitiancharge αὐτοῦautouagainst Him : γεγραμμένηνgegrammenēnwritten ΟΥΤΟΣ*HOUTOSTHIS ΕΣΤΙΝESTINIS ΙΗΣΟΥΣIĒSOUSJESUS , Ο*HOTHE ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣBASILEUSKING ΤΩΝTŌNOF THE ΙΟΥΔΑΙΩΝIOUDAIŌNJEWS .
38ΤότεTote- σταυροῦνταιstaurountaiwere crucified σὺνsynwith αὐτῷautōHim , δύοdyoTwo λῃσταίlēstairobbers εἷςheisone ἐκekon δεξιῶνdexiōn[His] right hand καὶkaiand εἷςheis[the other] ἐξexon εὐωνύμωνeuōnymōn[His] left .
39ΟἱHoithose who δὲdeAnd παραπορευόμενοιparaporeuomenoipassed by ἐβλασφήμουνeblasphēmounheaped abuse on αὐτὸνautonHim , κινοῦντεςkinountesshaking τὰςtas- κεφαλὰςkephalasheads αὐτῶνautōntheir
40καὶkaiand λέγοντεςlegontessaying , Ho“ You who καταλύωνkatalyōnare going to destroy τὸνtonthe ναὸνnaontemple καὶkaiand ἐνenin τρισὶνtrisinthree ἡμέραιςhēmeraisdays , οἰκοδομῶνoikodomōnrebuild [it] σῶσονsōsonsave σεαυτόνseautonYourself ! εἰeiIf ΥἱὸςHuios[the] Son εἶeiYou are τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , κατάβηθιkatabēthicome down ἀπὸapofrom τοῦtouthe σταυροῦstauroucross ! ”
41ὉμοίωςHomoiōsIn the same way δὲdeAnd καὶkaiand ΟἱHoithose who ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests , ἐμπαίζοντεςempaizontesmocked Him , μετὰmeta- τῶνtōn- γραμματέωνgrammateōnscribes , καὶkaiand πρεσβυτέρωνpresbyterōnelders καὶkaiand ΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnPharisees ἔλεγονelegonsaying ,
42ἌλλουςAllousothers , ἔσωσενesōsen“ He saved ἑαυτὸνheautonHimself . οὐouvvv δύναταιdynatai[but] He cannot σῶσαιsōsaisave εἰeiif ΒασιλεὺςBasileus[the] King ἸσραήλIsraēlof Israel ! ἐστι,estiis καταβάτωkatabatōLet Him come down νῦνnynnow ἀπὸapofrom τοῦtouthe σταυροῦstauroucross , καὶkaiand πιστεύσομενpisteusomenwe will believe ἐπ’ep’in αὐτὸautoIn the same way ,
43πέποιθενpepoithenHe trusts ἐπὶepiin τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonGod . ῥυσάσθωrhysasthōLet [God] deliver νῦνnynnow αὐτόνautonHim εἰeiif θέλειtheleiHe wants Him . αὐτόνautonHim εἰπὲeipesay γὰρgarFor ὅτιhoti- ΘεοῦTheouof God . ’ ” εἰμιeimi‘ I am ΥἱόςHuios[the] Son
44ΤὸTovvv δ’d’vvv αὐτὸautoIn the same way , καὶkaieven οἱhoithe λῃσταὶlēstairobbers οἱhoiwho συσταυρωθέντεςsystaurōthenteswere crucified αὐτῷautōHim ὠνείδιζονōneidizonberated αὐτόνautonHim .
45ἈπὸApoFrom δὲde- ἕκτηςhektēs[the] sixth ὥραςhōrashour σκότοςskotosdarkness ἐγένετοegenetocame ἐπὶepiover πᾶσανpasanall τὴνtēnthe γῆνgēnland . ἕωςheōsuntil ὥραςhōrashour ἐνάτηςenatēs[the] ninth
46περὶperiAbout δὲde- τὴνtēnthe ἐνάτηνenatēnninth ὥρανhōranhour ἀνεβόησενaneboēsencried out ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus φωνῇphōnēin a loud voice μεγάλῃmegalēvvv λέγωνlegōn- , Ἠλὶ*Ēli“ Eli , Ἠλὶ*Ēli“ Eli , λιμᾶlimalema σαβαχθάνι*sabachthanisabachthani ? ” τοῦτ’tout’which ἔστιestiis ΘεέTheeGod , μουmouMy θεέtheeGod , μουmouMy ἱνατίinatiWhy μεmeMe ?” ἐγκατέλιπεςenkatelipeshave You forsaken
47ΤινὲςTinessome δὲdeWhen τῶνtōnof those ἐκεῖekeithere ἑστηκότωνhestēkotōnstanding ἀκούσαντεςakousantesheard this , ἔλεγονelegonthey said , ὅτιhoti- ἨλίανĒlianElijah . ” φωνεῖphōneiis calling οὗτοςhoutos“ [He]
48καὶkai- εὐθέωςeutheōsquickly δραμὼνdramōnran εἷςheisOne ἐξexof αὐτῶνautōnthem καὶkaiand λαβὼνlabōnbrought σπόγγονspongona sponge . πλήσαςplēsasHe filled [it] τεte- ὄξουςoxouswith sour wine , καὶkai- περιθεὶςperitheisput [it] on καλάμῳkalamōa reed , ἐπότιζενepotizenand held it up for [Jesus] to drink αὐτόνauton. . . .
49ΟἱHoithe δὲdeBut λοιποὶloipoiothers ἔλεγον*elegonsaid , ἌφεςAphes“ Leave [Him] alone . ἴδωμενidōmenLet us see εἰeiif ἔρχεταιerchetaicomes ἨλίαςĒliasElijah σώσωνsōsōnto save αὐτόνautonHim . ”
50Ho- δὲdeWhen ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus πάλινpalinagain κράξαςkraxashad cried out φωνῇphōnēin a loud voice , μεγάλῃmegalēvvv ἀφῆκεaphekeHe did not allow τὸto[His] πνεῦμαpneumaspirit .
51ΚαὶKaiAt that moment ἰδοὺidou. . . τὸtothe καταπέτασμαkatapetasmaveil τοῦtouof the ναοῦnaoutemple ἐσχίσθηeschisthēwas torn εἰςeisin δύοdyotwo ἀπὸapofrom ἄνωθενanōthentop ἕωςheōsto κάτωkatōbottom . καὶkai- The γῆearth ἐσείσθηeseisthēquaked καὶkaiand αἱhaithe πέτραιpetrairocks ἐσχίσθησανeschisthēsanwere split .
52καὶkai- τὰtaThe μνημεῖαmnēmeiatombs ἀνεῴχθησανaneōchthēsanbroke open , καὶkaiand πολλὰpollaof many σώματαsōmata[the] bodies τῶνtōn- κεκοιμημένωνkekoimēmenōnwho had fallen asleep ἁγίωνhagiōnsaints ἨγέρθηĒgerthēHe has risen
53καὶkaiAnd ἐξελθόντεςexelthonteswhen they had come ἐκekout of τῶνtōnthe μνημείωνmnēmeiōntombs , μετὰmetaAfter τὴνtēn- ἔγερσινegersinresurrection , αὐτοῦautou[Jesus’] εἰσῆλθονeisēlthonthey entered εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe ἁγίανhagianholy πόλινpolincity καὶkaiand ἐνεφανίσθησανenephanisthēsanappeared πολλοῖςpolloisto many [people] .

60καὶkaiand ἔθηκενethēkenplaced αὐτὸautoit ἐνenin τῷ- καινῷkainōnew αὐτοῦautouhis own μνημείῳmnēmeiōtomb hothat ἐλατόμησενelatomēsenhe had cut ἐνeninto τῇthe πέτρᾳpetrarock . καὶkaiThen προσκυλίσαςproskylisashe rolled λίθονlithonstone μέγανmegana great τῇacross the θύρᾳthyraentrance τοῦtouto the μνημείουmnēmeioutomb ἀπῆλθενapēlthen[and] went away .
61ἮνĒnwere δὲde- ἐκεῖekeithere ΜαρίαMariaMary the ΜαγδαληνὴMagdalēnēMagdalene καὶkaiand the ἄλληallēother ΜαρίαMariaMary καθήμεναιkathēmenaisitting ἀπέναντιapenantiopposite τοῦtouthe τάφουtaphoutomb .
62ΤῇThe δὲde- ἐπαύριονepaurionnext day , ἥτιςhētisthe one ἐστὶestiis μετὰmetaafter τὴνtēn- ΠαρασκευήνParaskeuēnPreparation Day , συνήχθησανsynēchthēsanassembled οἱhoi- ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests καὶkaiand οἱhoi- ΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiPharisees πρὸςprosbefore ΠιλᾶτονPilatonPilate .
63λέγοντεςlegontesthey said , ΚύριεKyrie“ Sir , ” ἐμνήσθημενemnēsthēmen“ we remember ὅτιhotithat ἐκεῖνοςekeinosthat ho- πλάνοςplanosdeceiver εἶπενeipensaid , ἔτιetiwhile ζῶνzōnHe was alive ΜετὰMeta‘ After τρεῖςtreisthree ἡμέραςhēmerasdays ἐγείρομαιegeiromaiI will rise again . ’
64κέλευσονkeleusongive the order that οὖνounSo ἀσφαλισθῆναιasphalisthēnaibe secured τὸνtonthe τάφονtaphontomb ἕωςheōsuntil τῆςtēsthe τρίτηςtritēsthird ἡμέραςhēmerasday . μήποτέmepotethat at not time, lest ever ἐλθόντεςelthontesmay come οἱhoi- μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples ‹αὐτοῦ›autouHis κλέψωσινklepsōsin[and] steal Him away αὐτὸνauton. . . καὶkaiand εἴπωσιeiposispeak τῷthe λαῷlaōpeople ἨγέρθηĒgerthēHe has risen ἀπὸapofrom τῶνtōnthe νεκρῶνnekrōndead . καὶkaiAnd ἔσταιestaiwould be [this] ἐσχάτηeschatēlast πλάνηplanēdeception χείρωνcheirōnworse τῆςtēsthan the πρώτηςprōtēsfirst . ”
65ἜφηEphēsaid αὐτοῖςautois. . . . ho- ΠιλᾶτοςPilatosPilate ἜχετεEchete“ You have κουστωδίανkoustōdiana guard , ” ὑπάγετεhypagete“ Go , ἀσφαλίσασθεasphalisasthemake [the tomb as] secure ὡςhōsas οἴδατεoidateyou know [how] . ”
66οἱhoi- δὲdeSo πορευθέντεςporeuthentesthey went [and] ἠσφαλίσαντοēsphalisantosecured the tomb τὸνtonthe τάφονtaphonvvv σφραγίσαντεςsphragisantesby sealing τὸνtonthe λίθονlithonstone μετὰmeta[and posting] ΤῇThe ςsthe κουστωδίαςkoustōdiasguard .
