Acts 14

ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJews τεteof καὶkaiand ἙλλήνωνHellēnōnGreeks πολὺpolya great πλῆθοςplēthosnumber

2οἱhoithe δὲdeBut ἀπειθοῦντεςapeithountesunbelieving ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews ἐπήγειρανepēgeiranstirred up καὶkaiand ἐκάκωσανekakōsanpoisoned τὰςtas[their] ψυχὰςpsychasminds τῶνtōnthe ἐθνῶνethnōnGentiles κατὰkataagainst τῶνtōnthe ἀδελφῶνadelphōnbrothers .

3ἱκανὸνhikanonconsiderable μὲνmen- οὖνounSo χρόνονchronontime {there} , διέτριψανdietripsan[Paul and Barnabas] spent παρρησιαζόμενοιparrēsiazomenoispeaking boldly ἐπὶepifor τῷtōthe ΚυρίῳKyriōLord , τῷtōwho μαρτυροῦντιmartyrountiaffirmed τῷtōwho λόγῳlogōmessage τῆςtēsof χάριτοςcharitosgrace αὐτοῦautouHis διδόντιdidontiby enabling σημεῖαsēmeiasigns καὶkaiand τέραταteratawonders . γίνεσθαιginesthaito perform διὰdiavvv τῶνtōnvvv χειρῶνcheirōnthem αὐτῶνautōnvvv

4ἘσχίσθηEschisthēwere divided . δὲde- τὸtoThe πλῆθοςplēthospeople τῆςtēsof the πόλεωςpoleōscity καὶkai- οἱhoi[Some] μὲνmen- ἦσανēsansided σὺνsynwith τοῖςtoisthe ἸουδαίοιςIoudaioisJews , οἱhoi[others] δὲdeand σὺνsynwith τοῖςtoisthe ἀποστόλοιςapostoloisapostles .

5ὡςhōswhen δὲdeBut ἐγένετοegenetovvv ὁρμὴhormēset out τῶνtōnthe ἐθνῶνethnōnGentiles τεtetogether καὶkaiand ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJews , σὺνsynwith τοῖςtois- ἄρχουσινarchousinrulers , αὐτῶνautōntheir ὑβρίσαιhybrisaito mistreat καὶkaiand λιθοβολῆσαιlithobolēsaistone αὐτούςautousthem ,

6συνιδόντεςsynidontesthey found out about it κατέφυγονkatephygonand fled εἰςeisto τὰςtasthe πόλειςpoleiscities τῆςtēs- ΛυκαονίαςLykaoniasLycaonian ΛύστρανLystranof Lystra καὶkaiand ΔέρβηνDerbēnDerbe καὶkaiand τὴνtēnto the περίχωρονperichōronsurrounding region ,

7κἀκεῖkakeiwhere ἦσανēsanthey continued εὐαγγελιζόμενοιeuangelizomenoito preach the gospel .

8ΚαίKai- τιςtisa ἀνὴρanērman ἐνenIn ΛύστροιςLystroisLystra ἀδύνατοςadynatoscrippled τοῖςtoisin [his] ποσὶνposinfeet , ἐκάθητοekathētothere sat χωλὸςchōloswho was lame ἐκekfrom κοιλίαςkoiliasbirth μητρὸςmētros. . . αὐτοῦautou. . . ὑπάρχωνhyparchōnis ὃςhos[and] οὐδέποτεoudepote{had} never περιεπεπατήκει.periepepatekeiwalked .

9οὗτοςhoutosThis [man] ἤκουσεekouseheard τοῦtou- ΠαύλουPaulouPaul , λαλοῦντοςlalountosthe words of ὃςhoswho ἀτενίσαςatenisaslooked intently αὐτῷautōat him καὶkaiand ἰδὼνidōnsaw ὅτιhotithat πίστινpistinfaith ἔχειecheihe had τοῦtou- σωθῆναιsōthēnaito be healed .

10εἰπὲeipesay μεγάλῃmegalēIn a loud τεte[When] φωνῇphōnēvoice ἈνάστηθιAnastēthi“ Stand ἐπὶepion τοὺςtous- πόδαςpodasfeet ! ” σουsouyour ὀρθόςorthosup καὶkaiAnd ἥλατοhēlato[the man] jumped up καὶkaiand περιεπάτειperiepateibegan to walk .

11ΟἵHoithe δὲdeand ὄχλοιochloicrowds ἰδόντεςidontessaw ὃhowhat ἐποίησενepoiēsenhad done , ὃhowhat ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul ἐπῆρανepēranthey lifted up τὴνtēn- φωνὴνphōnēnvoices αὐτῶνautōntheir ΛυκαονιστὶLykaonistiin the Lycaonian language λέγοντεςlegontes- : ΟἱHoi“ The θεοὶtheoigods ὁμοιωθέντεςhomoiōthentesin human form ἀνθρώποιςanthrōpois. . . ! ” κατέβησανkatebēsanhave come down πρὸςprosto ἡμᾶςhēmasus

12ἐκάλουνekalounthey called τεte- τὸνton- μὲνmen- ΒαρνάβανBarnabanBarnabas ΔίαDiaZeus , τὸνton- δὲdeand ΠαῦλονPaulonPaul ἙρμῆνHermēn[they called] Hermes , ἐπειδὴepeidēbecause αὐτὸςautoshe ἦνēnwas ὁhothe ἡγούμενοςhēgoumenoschief τοῦtou- λόγουlogouspeaker .

13ὅhoThe δὲdeand ἱερεὺςhiereuspriest τοῦtou- ΔιὸςDiosof Zeus , τοῦtou- ὄντοςontos[whose temple] was πρὸprojust outside τῆςtēsthe πόλεωςpoleōscity , αὐτῶν*autōntheir ταύρουςtaurousbulls καὶkaiand στέμματαstemmatawreaths ἐπὶepito τοὺςtousthe πυλῶναςpylōnas[city] gates , ἐνέγκαςenenkasbrought σὺνsynalong with τοῖςtoisthe ὄχλοιςochloiscrowds . ἤθελεethelerefused θύεινthyeinto offer a sacrifice

14ἈκούσαντεςAkousantesfound out about this , δὲdeBut οἱhoi[when] the ἀπόστολοιapostoloiapostles ΒαρνάβαςBarnabasBarnabas καὶkaiand ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul διαρρήξαντεςdiarrēxantesthey tore τὰta- ἱμάτιαhimatiaclothes αὐτῶν*autōntheir εἰσεπήδησανeisepedesan[and] rushed εἰςeisinto τὸνtonthe ὄχλονochloncrowd , κράζοντεςkrazontesshouting ,

15καὶkai- λέγοντεςlegontes- ἌνδρεςAndres“ Men , τίtiwhy ταῦταtautathis ? ποιεῖτεpoieiteare you doing καὶkaitoo ἡμεῖςhēmeisWe ὁμοιοπαθεῖςhomoiopatheishuman ἐσμενesmenare [only] ὑμῖνhyminlike you . ἄνθρωποιanthrōpoimen , εὐαγγελιζόμενοιeuangelizomenoiWe are bringing you good news ὑμᾶςhymas. . . ἀπὸapofrom τούτωνtoutōnthese τῶνtōn- ματαίωνmataiōnworthless things ἐπιστρέφεινepistrepheinthat you should turn ἐπὶepito τῶνtōn- θεὸνtheonGod , τὸνton- ζῶνταzōnta[the] living ὃςhoswho ἐποίησεepoiesehas done τὸνton- οὐρανὸνouranonheaven καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- γῆνgēnearth καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- θάλασσανthalassansea καὶkaiand πάνταpantavvv τὰtaeverything ἐνenin αὐτοῖςautoisthem .

16ὃςhos[He] ἐνenIn ταῖςtais- παρῳχημέναιςparōchēmenaispast γενεαῖςgeneaisgenerations , εἴασεeiasewould not permit πάνταpantaall τὰta- ἔθνηethnēnations πορεύεσθαιporeuesthaigo ταῖςtais[own] ὁδοῖςhodoisway . αὐτῶνautōntheir

17καίτοιkaitoiYet γῇgēsoil οὐκoukvvv ἀμάρτυρονamartyronwithout testimony ἑαυτὸνheautonhimself ἀφῆκενaphēkenHe has not left ἀγαθοποιῶν,agathopoionto His goodness : οὐρανόθενouranothenfrom heaven ὑμῖνhyminyou ὑετοὺςhyetousrain διδοὺςdidousHe gives καὶkaiand καιροὺςkairousseasons , καρποφόρουςkarpophorousfruitful ἐμπιπλῶνempiplōnfilling τροφῆςtrophēswith food καὶkaiand εὐφροσύνηςeuphrosynēsgladness . ” τὰςtas- καρδίαςkardiashearts ὑμῶνhymōnyour

18καὶkaiand ταῦταtautawith these λέγοντεςlegonteswords , μόλιςmolisvvv κατέπαυσανkatepausan[Paul and Barnabas] could hardly stop τοὺςtousthe ὄχλουςochlouscrowds τοῦtoufrom μὴmēvvv θύεινthyeinsacrificing αὐτοῖςautoisto them .

19ἐπελθὼνepelthōnattacks δὲdeThen ἀπὸapofrom ἈντιοχείαςAntiocheiasAntioch καὶkaiand ἸκονίουIkoniouIconium ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioi[some] Jews καὶkaiand πείσαντεςpeisanteswon over τοὺςtousthe ὄχλουςochlouscrowds . καὶkai- λιθάσαντεςlithasantesThey stoned τὸνton- ΠαῦλονPaulonPaul ἔσυρανesuranthey dragged ἔξωexōoutside τῆςtēsthe πόλεωςpoleōscity , νομίσαντεςnomisantesAssuming αὐτὸνautonhe τεθνάναι.tethnanaiwas dead .

20κυκλωσάντωνkyklōsantōnhad gathered around δὲdeBut [after] αὐτὸνautonhe τῶνtōnthe μαθητῶνmathētōndisciples ἀναστὰςanastashe got up εἰσῆλθενeisēlthenand went back into εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe πόλινpolincity . ΚαὶKaiAnd τῇtēthe ἐπαύριονepaurionnext day ἜξελθεExelthe‘ Go out σὺνsynwith τῷtō- ΒαρνάβᾳBarnabaBarnabas εἰςeisfor ΔέρβηνDerbēnDerbe .

21Εὐαγγελισάμενοί*EuangelisamenoiThey preached the gospel to τεte- τὴνtēn- πόλινpolincity ἐκείνηνekeinēnthat καὶkaiand μαθητεύσαντεςmathēteusantesmade many disciples ἱκανοὺςhikanous. . . . ὑπέστρεψανhypestrepsan[Then] they returned εἰςeisto τὴνtēn- ΛύστρανLystranLystra , καὶkai- ἸκόνιονIkonionIconium , καὶkaiand ἈντιόχειανAntiocheianAntioch ,

22ἐπιστηρίζοντεςepistērizontesstrengthening τὰςtasthe ψυχὰςpsychassouls τῶνtōnof the μαθητῶνmathētōndisciples παρακαλοῦντεςparakalountes[and] encouraging [them] ἐμμένεινemmeneinto continue τῇtēin the πίστειpisteifaith . καὶkaiand ὅτιhoti[they said] . ΔιὰDiaendure πολλῶνpollōnmany θλίψεωνthlipseōnhardships δεῖdeimust ἡμᾶςhēmas“ We εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinto enter εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , ”

23ΧειροτονήσαντεςCheirotonēsantes[Paul and Barnabas] appointed δὲde- αὐτοῖςautoisfor them πρεσβυτέρουςpresbyterouselders κατ’kat’in each ἐκκλησίανekklēsianchurch , καὶkai- προσευξάμενοιproseuxamenoipraying μετὰmeta[and] νηστειῶνnēsteiōnfasting παρέθεντοparethentoas they entrusted αὐτοὺςautousthem τῷtōto the ΚυρίῳKyriōLord , εἰςeisin ὃνhonwhom πεπιστεύκασι.pepisteukasithey had believed .

24ΚαὶKai[After] διελθόντεςdielthontespassing through τὴνtēn- ΠισιδίανPisidianPisidia , ἦλθονēlthonthey came εἰςeisto ΠαμφυλίανPamphylianPamphylia .

25καὶkaiAnd [when] λαλήσαντεςlalēsantesthey had spoken ἐνenin ΠέργῃPergēPerga , τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword κατέβησανkatebēsanthey went down εἰςeisto ἈττάλειανAttaleianAttalia .

26ΚἀκεῖθενKakeithenFrom [Attalia] ἀπέπλευσανapepleusanthey sailed εἰςeisto ἈντιόχειανAntiocheianAntioch , ὅθενhothenwhere ἦσανēsanthey had παραδεδομένοιparadedomenoibeen commended τῇtēto the χάριτιcharitigrace τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God εἰςeisfor τὸtothe ἔργονergonwork ὃho- ἐπλήρωσανeplērōsanthey had just completed .

27ΠαραγενόμενοιParagenomenoithey arrived , δὲde[When] καὶkai- συναγαγόντεςsynagagontesthey gathered τὴνtēnthe ἐκκλησίανekklēsianchurch {together} ἀνήγγειλάνanēngeilanthey reported ὅσαhosaall that ἐποίησενepoiēsenhad done ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod μετ’met’through αὐτῶνautōnthem , καὶkaiand ὅτιhotihow ἤνοιξεēnoixeopened τοῖςtoisto the ἔθνεσιethnesiGentiles θύρανthyran[the] door πίστεωςpisteōsof faith

28διέτριβονdietribonthey spent δὲdeAnd ἐκεῖekeithere χρόνονchronontime [there] οὐκoukvvv ὀλίγονoligona long σὺνsynwith τοῖςtoisthe μαθηταῖςmathētaisdisciples .
