4ΟἱHoi- δὲde- εἰπὼνeipōnHe said ἘπέτρεψεepetrepseHe gave them permission ΜωϋσῆςMōusēs“ Moses βιβλίονbibliona certificate ἀποστασίουapostasiouof divorce γράψαιgrapsai[a man] to write [his wife] καὶkaiand ἀπολῦσαιapolysaisend [her] away . ”
5καὶkaiand ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisHe replied Ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipentold αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ΠρὸςProsbecause of τὴνtēn- σκληροκαρδίανsklērokardianhardness of heart . ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἔγραψενegrapsen“ [Moses] wrote ὑμῖνhyminfor you τὴνtēn- ἐντολὴνentolēncommandment ταύτηνtautēnthis
6ἀπὸapofrom δὲdeHowever , ἀρχῆςarchēs[the] beginning κτίσεωςktiseōsof creation , ἌρσενArsenmale καὶkaiand θῆλυthēlyfemale .’ ἐποίησενepoiēsen‘ [God] made αὐτούςautousthem Ho- ΘεὸςTheosGod

9howhat οὖνounTherefore howhat ΘεὸςTheosGod συνέζευξενsynezeuxenhas joined together , ἄνθρωποςanthrōpos{let} man μὴnot χωριζέτωchōrizetōseparate . ”
10ΚαὶKaiWhen [they were] εἰςeisinside τὴνtēnthe οἰκίανoikianhouse , πάλινpalinback οἱhoithe μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples περὶperiabout τούτουtoutouthis matter . ἐπηρώτωνepērōtōnasked αὐτόνauton[Jesus]
11καὶkai[So] λέγειlegeiHe told αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ὋςHos“ Whoever ἂνan. . . ἀπολύσῃapolysēdivorces τὴνtēn- γυναῖκαgynaikawife αὐτοῦautouhis καὶkaiand γαμήσῃgamēsēmarries ἄλληνallēnanother [woman] μοιχᾶταιmoichataicommits adultery ἐπ’ep’against αὐτήνautēnher .
12καὶkaiAnd ἐὰνeanif γυνὴgynēwife ἀπολύσασαapolysasadivorces τὸνton- ἄνδραandrahusband γαμηθῇgamethemarries ἄλλῳallōanother μοιχᾶταιmoichataishe commits adultery . ”
13ΚαὶKaiNow προσέφερονprosepheron[people] were bringing αὐτῷautōto [Jesus] παιδίαpaidia[the] little children ἵναhinafor αὐτῶνautōnon them , ἅψηταιhapsētaiHim to place His hands οἱhoithe δὲdeand μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples ἐπετίμωνepetimōnadmonished τοῖςtoisto the προσφέρουσιν.prospherousin[people] were even bringing
14ἸδὼνIdōnsaw this , δὲdeBut ho- ἸησοῦςIēsous[when] Jesus ἠγανάκτησεeganakteseHe was indignant καὶkaiand εἶπενeipentold αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ἌφετεAphete“ Let τὰtathe παιδίαpaidialittle children ἔρχεσθαιerchesthaicome πρόςprosto μεmeMe , καὶkaiand μεmeMe , κωλύετεkōlyetehinder αὐτάautathem ! τῶνtōnto γὰρgarFor τοιούτωνtoioutōnsuch [as these] . ἐστὶνestinbelongs the βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God
15ἀμὴνamēnTruly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὃςhosanyone who ἐὰνeanif μὴnot δέξηταιdexētaidoes not receive τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ὡςhōslike παιδίονpaidiona little child οὐouvvv μὴvvv εἰσέλθῃeiselthēwill never enter εἰςeis. . . αὐτήνautēnit . ”
16καὶkaiAnd ἐναγκαλισάμενοςenankalisamenosHe took [the children] in His arms , αὐτάautathem , κατευλόγειkateulogei[and] blessed τιθεὶςtitheisplaced τὰςtas[His] χεῖραςcheirashands ἐπ’ep’on αὐτάautathem ,
17ΚαὶKaiAs ἐκπορευομένουekporeuomenou[Jesus] started αὐτοῦautouHis εἰςeison ὁδὸνhodonway , προσδραμὼνprosdramōnran up εἷςheis[a man] καὶkaiand γονυπετήσαςgonypetēsasknelt before αὐτὸνautonHim . ἐπηρώταepērōtahe asked αὐτόνauton- , ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskaleTeacher , ” ἀγαθέagathe“ Good τίti“ what ποιήσωpoiēsōmust I do ἵναhinato ζωὴνzōēnlife ? ” αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal κληρονομήσωklēronomēsōinherit
18Ho- δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipenreplied αὐτῷautō- . ΤίTi“ Why μεmeMe λέγειςlegeisdo you call ἀγαθόνagathongood ? ” οὐδεὶςoudeis“ No one [is] ἀγαθὸςagathosgood εἰeiexcept μὴ. . . εἷςheisalone . ho- ΘεόςTheosGod
19τὰςtasthe ἐντολὰςentolascommandments : οἶδαςoidasYou know Μὴ‘ {Do} not μοιχεύσῃςmoicheusēscommit adultery , Μὴ{do} not φονεύσῃςphoneusēsmurder , Μὴ{do} not κλέψῃςklepsēssteal , Μὴ{do} not ψευδομαρτυρήσῃςpseudomartyrēsēsbear false witness , Μὴ{do} not ἀποστερήσῃςaposterēsēscheat [others] , ΤίμαTimahonor τὸνton- πατέραpaterafather σουsouyour καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- μητέραmēteramother .’ ”
20Ho- δὲde- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisvvv εἶπενeipensaid αὐτῷautōto him , ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskale“ Teacher , ” ταῦταtautathese πάνταpanta“ all ἐφυλαξάμηνephylaxamēnI have kept ἐκekfrom νεότητόςneotētosyouth . ” μουmoumy
21Ho- δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἐμβλέψαςemblepsaslooked at αὐτῷautōhim , ἠγάπησενēgapēsenloved αὐτὸνautonhim , καὶkaiand εἶπενeipensaid αὐτῷautōto him , ἝνHen“ [There is] one thing σοιsoiYou . ” ὑστερεῖhystereilack : εἰeiexcept θέλειςtheleisdo you want τέλειόςteleiosperfect . [’’] εἶναιeinaito be ὝπαγεHypage“ Go , ” ὅσαhosaeverything ἔχειςecheisyou own πώλησονpōlēsonsell καὶkaiand δὸςdosgive πτωχοῖςptōchoispoor , καὶkaiand ἕξειςhexeisyou will have θησαυρὸνthēsaurontreasure ἐνenin οὐρανῷouranōheaven . καὶkaiThen δεῦροdeurocome , ἀκολούθειakoloutheifollow μοιmoiMe . ” ἄραςaraspick up τὸνton- σταυρὸνstauroncross σουsouyour
22Ho- δὲde- στυγνάσαςstygnasas[the man] was saddened ἐπὶepiby τῷ[these] λόγῳlogōwords ἀπέλθῃapelthēto depart λυπούμενοςlypoumenosin sorrow , ἦνēnhe had γὰρgarbecause ἔχωνechōn. . . κτήματαktēmatawealth . πολλάpollagreat
23ΚαὶKaiThen περιβλεψάμενοςperiblepsamenoslooked around ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus λέγειlegei[and] said to τοῖςtois- μαθηταῖςmathētaisdisciples , αὐτοῦautouHis ΠῶςPōs“ How δυσκόλωςdyskolōshard {it is} οἱhoifor the τὰtavvv χρήματαchrēmatarich ἔχοντεςechontesvvv εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ! ” εἰσελεύσονταιeiseleusontaito enter
24οἱhoifor the δὲdeAnd μαθηταὶmathētaidisciples ἐθαμβοῦντοethambountowere amazed ἐπὶepiat τοῖςtois- λόγοιςlogoiswords . αὐτοῦautouHis ho- δὲdeBut ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus πάλινpalinagain , ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisvvv λέγειlegeisaid αὐτοῖςautoisto them ΤέκναTekna“ Children , πῶςpōshow δύσκολόνdyskolonhard ἐστιestiis τοὺςtousthe πεποιθόταςpepoithotastrusted ἐπὶepiat χρήμασινkhremasinrich εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ! ” εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinto enter
25εὐκοπώτερόνeukopōteroneasier ἐστιestiis κάμηλονkamēlon[for] a camel διὰdiathrough τρυμαλιᾶςtrymaliaseye ῥαφίδοςrhaphidosneedle εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinto enter ēthan [for] πλούσιονplousiona rich man εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God . ” εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinto enter
26ΟἱHoi- δὲde- περισσῶςperissōsvvv ἐξεπλήσσοντοexeplēssontoThey were even more astonished λέγοντεςlegontes[and] said πρὸςprosto ἑαυτούςheautousone another , ΚαὶKaithen τίςtis“ Who δύναταιdynataican σωθῆναιsōthēnaibe saved ? ”
27ἘμβλέψαςEmblepsaslooked at αὐτοῖςautoisthem ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus λέγειlegei[and] said , ΠαρὰPara“ With ἀνθρώποιςanthrōpoisman ἀδύνατονadynaton[this is] impossible , ἀλλ’all’but οὐounot παρὰparawith θεῷtheōGod . πάνταpantaall things γὰρgarFor δυνατὰdynata[are] possible ἐστιestiis παρὰparawith τῷ- θεῷtheōGod . ”
28ἬρξατοĒrxatobegan ho- ΠέτροςPetrosPeter λέγεινlegeinto say αὐτῷautōto Him , ἸδοὺIdou“ Look , ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe ἀφήκαμενaphēkamenhave left πάνταpantaeverything καὶkaiand ἠκολουθήκαμένēkolouthēkamenfollowed σοιsoiYou . ”
29ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisvvv δὲdeBut ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipensaid ἀμὴνamēnTruly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , οὐδεὶςoudeis“ No one [is] ἐστὶνestinbelongs ὃςhosanyone who ἀφῆκενaphēkenhas left οἰκίανoikianhome ēor ἀδελφοὺςadelphousbrothers ēor ἀδελφὰςadelphassisters ēor πατέραpaterafather ēor μητέραmēteramother ēor γυναῖκαgynaikawife the ΤέκναTekna“ Children , ēthan [for] ἀγροὺςagrousfields ἕνεκενhenekenfor My sake ἐμοῦemou. . . καὶkaiand ἕνεκενhenekenfor τοῦtouthe εὐαγγελίουeuangeliougospel
30ἐὰνeanvvv μὴvvv λάβῃlabēwill fail to receive ἑκατονταπλασίοναhekatontaplasionaa hundredfold νῦνnyn. . . ἐνenin τῷthe καιρῷkairōage — τούτῳtoutōpresent οἰκίαςoikiashouses καὶkaiand ἀδελφοὺςadelphousbrothers καὶkaiand ἀδελφὰςadelphassisters καὶkaiand πατέραpaterafather καὶkaiand μητέραmēteramother καὶkaiand τέκναteknachildren καὶkaiand ἀγροὺςagrousfields μετὰmetaalong with διωγμῶνdiōgmōnpersecutions — καὶkaiand ἐνenin τῷthe αἰῶνιaiōniage τῷto ἐρχομένῳerchomenōcome , ζωὴνzōēnlife . αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal
31πολλοὶpolloimany [who are] δὲdeBut ἔσονταιesontaiwill be πρῶτοιprōtoifirst ἔσχατοιeschatoilast , καὶkaiand ἔσχατοιeschatoilast , πρῶτοιprōtoifirst
32ἮσανĒsanthey were δὲde[As] ἐνen- τῇthe ὁδῷhodōroad ἀναβαίνοντεςanabainontesgoing up εἰςeisto ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem , καὶkai- ἦνēnwas προάγωνproagōnwalking ahead of αὐτοὺςautousthem . ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus καὶkai- ἐθαμβοῦντοethambounto[The disciples] were amazed , καὶkai- ἀκολουθοῦντεςakolouthountesfollowed ἐφοβοῦντοephobountowere afraid . καὶkai- παραλαβὼνparalabōn[Jesus] took πάλινpalinAgain τοὺςtousthe δώδεκαdōdekaTwelve {aside} ἤρξατοērxato[and] began αὐτοῖςautoisthem λέγεινlegeinto tell τὰtawhat μέλλονταmellontawas going αὐτῷautōto Him : συμβαίνεινsymbaineinto happen
33ὅτιhoti- ἸδοὺIdou“ Look , ἀναβαίνομενanabainomenwe are going up εἰςeisto ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem , καὶkaiand hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man παραδοθήσεταιparadothēsetaiwill be delivered over τοῖςtoisto the ἀρχιερεῦσιarkhiereusichief priests καὶkaiand γραμματεῦσι,grammateusiscribes . καὶkaiand κατακρινοῦσινkatakrinousinThey will condemn αὐτὸνautonHim θανάτῳthanatōto death καὶkaiand παραδώσουσινparadōsousinwill deliver αὐτὸνautonHim {over} τοῖςtoisto the ἔθνεσι,ethnesiGentiles
34καὶkai- ἐμπαίξουσινempaixousin[who] will mock αὐτῷautōHim καὶkaiand μαστιγώσουσινmastigōsousinflog [Him] αὐτὸνautonHim . καὶkaiAnd ἐμπτύσουσινemptysousinspit on αὐτῷautōHim καὶkaiand ἀποκτενοῦσινapoktenousinkill αὐτὸνautonHim . καὶkaiAnd τῇ- τρίτῃtritēthird ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday , ἀναστήσεταιanastēsetaiHe will rise again . ”
35ΚαὶKaiThen προσπορεύονταιprosporeuontaicame αὐτῷautōto [Jesus] ἸάκωβοςIakōbosJames καὶkaiand ἸωάννηςIōannēsJohn , υἱοὶhuioisons ΖεβεδαίουZebedaiouof Zebedee , λέγοντεςlegontes[and] declared ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskale“ Teacher , θέλομενthelomenwe want ἵναhina. . . howhatever ἐὰνean. . . αἰτήσωμένaitēsōmenwe ask ποιήσῃςpoiēsēsYou to do ἡμῖνhēminfor us
36howhatever δὲde- εἶπενeipenHe inquired αὐτοῖςautois. . . . ΤίTi“ What θέλετεtheletedo you want ποιῆσαιpoiēsaito show μεmeMe ὑμῖνhyminfor you ? ”
37ΟἱHoi- δὲde- εἰπὼνeipōnHe said αὐτῷautō. . . , ΔὸςDos“ Grant ἡμῖνhēmin. . . ἵναhinathat εἷςheisone ἐκekat δεξιῶνdexiōnYour right hand καὶkaiand εἷςheis[the other] ἐξexat εὐωνύμωνeuōnymōnleft σουsouYour καθίσωμενkathisōmenmay sit ἐνenin τῇ- δόξῃdoxēglory . ” σουsouYour
38Ho- δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipenreplied αὐτοῖςautois- . ΟὐκOuk“ vvv οἴδατεoidateYou do not know τίtiwhat αἰτεῖσθεaiteistheyou are asking , ” δύνασθεdynasthe“ Can you πιεῖνpieindrink τὸtothe ποτήριονpotērioncup ho- ἐγὼegōI πίνωpinōwill drink , καὶkaiand τὸtothe βάπτισμαbaptismabaptism hovvv ἐγὼegōvvv βαπτίζομαιbaptizomai[I will undergo] ? ” βαπτισθῆναιbaptisthēnaibe baptized [with]
39ΟἱHoi- δὲde- εἰπὼνeipōnHe said αὐτῷautō. . . . ΔυνάμεθαDynametha“ We can , ” hovvv δὲde- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἶπενeipensaid αὐτοῖςautois- , τὸtothe μὴνmēnmonth . ποτήριονpotērioncup hothat ἐγὼegōI πίνωpinōdrink , ” πίεσθεpiesthe“ You will drink καὶkai“ and τὸtothe βάπτισμαbaptismabaptism hothat ἐγὼegōI βαπτίζομαιbaptizomai[undergo] . βαπτισθήσεσθεbaptisthēsestheyou will be baptized [with]
40τὸtothe δὲdeBut καθίσαιkathisaito sit ἐκekat δεξιῶνdexiōnright μουmouMy καὶkai“ and ἐξex- εὐωνύμωνeuōnymōnleft οὐκouknot ἔστινestinis ἐμὸνemonMine δοῦναιdounaito grant . ἀλλ’all’[These seats belong to those ] οἷςhoisfor whom ἡτοίμασταιhētoimastaithey have been prepared . ”
41ΚαὶKaiWhen ἀκούσαντεςakousantesheard about [this] , οἱhoithe δέκαdekaten ἤρξαντοērxantothey became ἀγανακτεῖνaganakteinindignant περὶperiwith ἸακώβουIakōbouJames καὶkaiand ἸωάννουIōannouJohn .
42ho- δέdeBut ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus προσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenoscalled them together αὐτοὺςautous. . . λέγειlegei[and] said αὐτοῖςautois. . . , ΟἴδατεOidate“ You know ὅτιhotithat οἱhoithose δοκοῦντεςdokountesregarded as ἄρχεινarcheinrulers τῶνtōnof the ἐθνῶνethnōnGentiles κατακυριεύουσινkatakyrieuousinlord it over αὐτῶνautōnthem , καὶkaiand οἱhoi- μεγάλοιmegaloisuperiors αὐτῶνautōnthem . κατεξουσιάζουσινkatexousiazousinexercise authority over αὐτῶνautōnthem .
43οὐχouch- οὕτωouto[this] δέdeBut ἔσταιestaimust be ἐνenamong ὑμῖνhyminyou ἀλλ’all’Instead , ὃςhoswhoever ἐὰνean. . . θέλῃthelēwants γενέσθαιgenesthaito become μέγαςmegasgreat ἐνenamong ὑμῖνhyminyou ἔσταιestaimust be ὑμῶνhymōnyour διάκονοςdiakonosservant ,
44καὶkaiand ὃςhoswhoever ἐὰνean. . . θέλῃthelēwants ὑμῶνhymōnyour γενέσθαιgenesthaito become πρῶτοςprōtosfirst ἔσταιestaimust be πάντωνpantōnof all . δοῦλοςdoulos[the] slave
45καὶkaieven γὰρgarFor hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man οὐκouk. . . ἔλθῃelthēshould come διακονηθῆναιdiakonēthēnaito be served , ἀλλὰallabut διακονῆσαιdiakonēsaito serve , καὶkaiand δοῦναιdounaito give τὴνtēn- ψυχὴνpsychēnlife αὐτοῦautouHis λύτρονlytron[as] a ransom ἀντὶantifor πολλῶνpollōnmany . ”
46ΚαὶKaiNext , ἔρχονταιerchontaithey came εἰςeisto ἸεριχώIerichōJericho . ΚαὶKaiAnd ἐκπορευομένουekporeuomenouwere leaving αὐτοῦautouHis ἀπὸapo. . . 47καὶkaiWhen ἀκούσαςakousashe heard ὅτιhotithat ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus hoof ΝαζωραῖοςNazōraiosNazareth ἐστινestinit was ἤρξατοērxatohe began κράζεινkrazeinto cry out καὶkai. . . λέγεινlegein. . . , ΥἱὲHuieSon ΔαυὶδDauidof David , ἸησοῦIēsou“ Jesus , ἐλέησόνeleēsonhave mercy on μεmeme ! ”
48ΚαὶKai- ἐπετίμωνepetimōnadmonished αὐτῷautōhim πολλοὶpolloiMany [people] ἵναhinato σιωπήσῃsiōpēsēbe silent , ho- δὲdebut πολλῷpollōall μᾶλλονmallonthe louder , ἔκραζενekrazenhe cried out ΥἱὲHuie“ Son ΔαυίδDauidof David , ἐλέησόνeleēsonhave mercy on μεmeme ! ”
