1ὙπομίμνῃσκεHypomimnēskeRemind αὐτοὺςautous[the believers] ἀρχαῖςarchaisto rulers καὶkaitoo ἐξουσίαιςexousiais[and] authorities , ὑποτάσσεσθαιhypotassesthaito submit πειθαρχεῖνpeitharcheinto be obedient πρὸςprosfor πᾶνpanevery ἔργονergonwork , ἀγαθὸνagathongood ἑτοίμουςhetoimousready εἶναιeinai[and]
2μηδέναmēdenano one , βλασφημεῖνblasphēmeinto malign ἀμάχουςamachouspeaceable εἶναιeinai[and] to be ἐπιεικεῖςepieikeis[and] gentle , πᾶσανpasanfull ἐνδεικνυμένουςendeiknymenousshowing πρᾳότηταpraotetaconsideration πρὸςprosto πάνταςpantaseveryone ἀνθρώπουςanthrōpous. . . .
3ἮμενĒmenwere γάρgarFor ποτεpoteat one time καὶkaitoo ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe ἀνόητοιanoētoifoolish , ἀπειθεῖςapeitheisdisobedient , πλανώμενοιplanōmenoimisled , δουλεύοντεςdouleuontes[and] enslaved ἐπιθυμίαιςepithymiaisof desires καὶkaiand ἡδοναῖςhēdonaispleasures — ποικίλαιςpoikilaisto all sorts ἐνenin κακίᾳkakiamalice καὶkaiand φθόνῳphthonōenvy , διάγοντεςdiagontesliving στυγητοίstygētoibeing hated μισοῦντεςmisountes[and] hating ἀλλήλουςallēlousone another .
4ὍτεHotewhen δὲdeBut ἡhēthe χρηστότηςchrēstotēskindness καὶkaiand ἡhē[His] φιλανθρωπίαphilanthrōpialove for mankind ἐπεφάνηepephanēappeared , τοῦtouof ΣωτῆροςSōtērosSavior ἡμῶνhēmōnour ΘεοῦTheouGod
5οὐκouknot ἐξexby ἔργωνergōndeeds τῶνtōn- ἐνen- δικαιοσύνῃdikaiosynē[the] righteous ὢνōnhe is ἐποιήσαμενepoiēsamenhad done , ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe ἀλλὰallabut κατὰkataaccording to τῶνtōn- αὐτοῦautouHis ἐλεῶνeleōnshowing mercy , ἔσωσενesōsenHe saved ἡμᾶςhēmasus , διὰdiathrough λουτροῦloutrou[the] washing παλιγγενεσίαςpaliggenesiasof new birth καὶkaiand ἀνακαινώσεωςanakainōseōsrenewal ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit . ἉγίουHagiouby [the] Holy
6οὗhou[ This is the Spirit ] ἐξέχεενexecheenHe poured out ἐφ’eph’on ἡμᾶςhēmasus πλουσίωςplousiōsabundantly διὰdiathrough ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist τοῦtou- ΣωτῆροςSōtērosSavior , ἡμῶνhēmōnour
7ἵναhinaso that , δικαιωθέντεςdikaiōthenteshaving been justified τῇtē- ἐκείνουekeinouby [His] χάριτιcharitigrace , κληρονόμοιklēronomoiheirs γενώμεθαgenōmethamight become κατ’kat’with ἐλπίδαelpida[the] hope ζωῆςzōēslife . αἰωνίουaiōniouof eternal
8ΠιστὸςPistos[is] trustworthy . ὁho[This] λόγοςlogossaying καὶkaiAnd περὶperi. . . τούτωνtoutōnthese things , βούλομαίboulomaiI want σεseyou διαβεβαιοῦσθαιdiabebaiousthaito emphasize ἵναhinaso that φροντίζωσιphrontizosiwill take care καλῶνkalōngood ἔργωνergōndeeds . προΐστασθαιproistasthaito devote themselves to οἱhoithose who πεπιστευκότεςpepisteukoteshave believed τὸto- ΘεῷTheōGod ταῦτάtautaThese things ἐστίestiI have τὰta- καλὰkalaexcellent καὶkaiand ὠφέλιμαōphelimaprofitable τοῖςtoisfor the ἀνθρώποιςanthrōpoispeople .
9ΜωρὰςMōrasfoolish δὲdeBut ζητήσειςzētēseiscontroversies , καὶkai- γενεαλογίαςgenealogiasgenealogies , καὶkai- ἔρεις*ereisarguments , καὶkaiand μάχαςmachasquarrels νομικὰςnomikasabout [the] law , περιΐστασοperiistasoavoid εἰσὶeisiare γὰρgarbecause ἀνωφελεῖςanōpheleispointless καὶkaiand μάταιοιmataioiworthless .
10αἱρετικὸνhairetikona divisive ἄνθρωπονanthrōponman μετὰmetaafter μίανmiana first καὶkaiand δευτέρανdeuteransecond νουθεσίανnouthesianadmonition , παραιτοῦparaitouReject
11εἰδὼςeidōsknowing ὅτιhotithat ἐξέστραπταιexestraptaiis corrupt ὁho- τοιοῦτοςtoioutossuch a man καὶkaiand ἁμαρτάνειhamartaneisinful ; ὢνōnhe is αὐτοκατάκριτοςautokatakritosself-condemned .
12ὍτανHotanAs soon as πέμψωpempsōI send ἈρτεμᾶνArtemanArtemas πρὸςprosto σὲseyou , ἢēor ΤυχικόνTychikonTychicus σπούδασονspoudasonmake every effort ἐλθεῖνeltheinto come πρόςprosto μεmeme εἰςeisat ΝικόπολινNikopolinNicopolis , ἐκεῖekeithere . γὰρgarbecause κέκρικαkekrikaI have decided παραχειμάσαιparacheimasaito winter
13ΖηνᾶνZēnanZenas τὸνtonthe νομικὸνnomikonlawyer καὶkaiand ἈπολλῶApollōApollos σπουδαίωςspoudaiōsDo your best πρόπεμψονpropempsonto equip ἵναhinaso that μηδὲνmēden. . . . αὐτοῖςautoisthey λείπῃleipēwill have everything they need
14μανθανέτωσανmanthanetōsanmust also learn δὲdeAnd καὶkaivvv οἱhoi- ἡμέτεροιhēmeteroiour [people] καλῶνkalōngood ἔργωνergōnworks προΐστασθαιproistasthaito devote themselves to εἰςeisin order to meet τὰςtas- ἀναγκαίαςanankaias[the] pressing χρείαςchreiasneeds [of others] , ἵναhinaso that μὴmēvvv ὦσινōsinthey will not be ἄκαρποιakarpoiunfruitful .
15ἈσπάζονταίAspazontaisend you greetings σεse. . . . οἱhoiwho [are] μετ’met’with ἐμοῦemoume πάντεςpantesAll ἌσπασαιAspasaiGreet τοὺςtousthose who φιλοῦνταςphilountaslove ἡμᾶςhēmasus ἐνenin πίστειpistei[the] faith .
