5ἀκούωνakouōnbecause I hear about σουsouyou τὴνtēn- ἀγάπηνagapēnlove καὶkai- τὴνtēn- πίστινpistinfaith ἣνhēn- ἔχειςecheisyour πρὸςprosin τὸνtonthe ΚύριονKyrionLord ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus καὶkaiand εἰςeisfor πάνταςpantasall τοὺςtousthe ἁγίουςhagioussaints .
6ὅπωςhopōs[I pray] that ἡhē- κοινωνίαkoinōniapartnership τῆςtēsin the πίστεώςpisteōsfaith σουsouyour ἐνεργὴςenergēseffective γένηταιgenētaimay become ἐνenas ἐπιγνώσειepignōseiyou fully acknowledge παντὸςpantosevery ἀγαθοῦagathougood [thing] τοῦtouthat [is] ἐνenvvv ἡμῖνhēminours εἰςeisin ΧριστόνChristonChrist . 7χάρινcharinfavor γὰρgar- ἔχομενechomendo we need πολλὴνpollēngreat καὶkaiand παράκλησινparaklēsinencouragement ἐπὶepiin τῇtē- ἀγάπῃagapēlove , σοῦsouyou , ὅτιhotibecause τὰtathe σπλάγχναsplanchnahearts τῶνtōnof the ἁγίωνhagiōnsaints . ἀναπέπαυταιanapepautaihave refreshed διὰdia- σοῦsouyou , ἀδελφέadelphebrother ,
8ΔιόDioSo πολλὴνpollēnenough ἐνen{although} in ΧριστῷChristōChrist παρρησίανparrēsianbold ἔχωνechōnI am ἐπιτάσσεινepitasseinto order σοιsoiyou [to do] τὸtowhat [is] ἀνῆκονanēkonproper ,
9διὰdiaon the basis of τὴνtēn- ἀγάπηνagapēnlove . μᾶλλονmallonvvv παρακαλῶparakalōI prefer to appeal τοιοῦτοςtoioutosI , ὢνōnam ὡςhōs[For] ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul , πρεσβύτηςpresbytēsaged , νυνὶnyninow δὲdeand καὶkaias well . δέσμιοςdesmiosa prisoner ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ
10ΠαρακαλῶParakalōI appeal σεseto you περὶperifor τοῦtou- ἐμοῦemoumy τέκνουteknouchild ὃνhonwhose ἐγέννησαegennēsafather I became ἐνen[while I was] in τοῖςtois- δεσμοῖςdesmoischains . μουmoumy ὈνήσιμονOnēsimonOnesimus ,
11τόνton- ποτέpoteFormerly σοιsoito you , ἄχρηστονachrēston[he was] useless νυνὶnyninow δὲdebut σοιsoito you , καὶkaiboth ἐμοὶemoito me . εὔχρηστονeuchrēston[he has become] useful ὃνhonvvv ἀνέπεμψάanepempsaI am sending back
12σὺsyyou δὲdebut αὐτόνautonhim τοῦτ’tout’who ἐστίestiI have τὰta- ἐμὰemamy σπλάγχναsplanchnavery heart . προσλαβοῦproslaboureceive
13ὃνhon[him] ἐγὼegōI ἐβουλόμηνeboulomēnwould have liked πρὸςproswith ἐμαυτὸνemautonme , κατέχεινkatecheinto keep ἵναhinaso that ὑπὲρhypervvv σοῦsouon your behalf διακονῇdiakonēhe could minister to μοιmoime ἐνenin τοῖςtois[my] δεσμοῖςdesmoischains τοῦtoufor the εὐαγγελίουeuangeliougospel .
14ΧωρὶςChōriswithout δὲdeBut τῆςtēs- σῆςsēsyour γνώμηςgnōmēsconsent , οὐδὲνouden[anything] ἠθέλησαēthelēsaI did [not] want ποιῆσαιpoiēsaito do ἵναhinaso that μὴmē. . . ὡςhōsvvv κατὰkataout of ἀνάγκηνanankēncompulsion , τὸto- ἀγαθόνagathongoodness σουsouyour ᾖēwill not be ἀλλὰallabut κατὰkataby ἑκούσιονhekousionyour own free will .
15τάχαtachaperhaps γὰρgarFor διὰdiathis is why τοῦτοtouto. . . ἐχωρίσθηechōristhēhe was separated [from you] πρὸςprosfor ὥρανhōrana while , ἵναhinaso that αἰώνιονaiōnionfor good — αὐτὸνauton. . . ἀπέχῃςapechēsyou might have him back
16οὐκέτιouketino longer ὡςhōsas δοῦλονdoulona slave , ἀλλ’all’Instead , ὑπὲρhyperbetter than δοῦλονdoulona slave , ἀδελφὸνadelphonbrother . ἀγαπητόνagapēton[as] a beloved μάλισταmalista[He is] especially [ beloved ] ἐμοίemoito me , πόσῳposōeven more so δὲdebut μᾶλλονmallon. . . σοὶsoito you , καὶkaiboth ἐνenin σαρκὶsarkiperson καὶkaiand ἐνenin ΚυρίῳKyriō[the] Lord .

18εἰeiif δέdeBut τιtiin any way ἠδίκησέedikesehe has wronged σεseyou ἢēor ὀφείλειopheileiowes [you anything] , τοῦτοtoutovvv ἐμοὶemoivvv ἐλλόγει·ellogeicharge it to my account .
19ἐγὼegōI , ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul , ἔγραψαegrapsawrite [this] τῇtēwith ἐμῇemēmy own χειρίcheirihand . ἐγὼegōI ἀποτίσωapotisōwill repay [it] — ἵναhinato μὴmēnot λέγωlegōmention σοιsoi- ὅτιhotithat καὶkaivvv σεαυτόνseautonyour very self . μοιmoime προσοφείλειςprosopheileisyou owe

21ΠεποιθὼςPepoithōsConfident of τῇtē- ὑπακοῇhypakoēobedience , σουsouyour ἔγραψάegrapsaI write σοιsoito you , εἰδὼςeidōsknowing ὅτιhotithat καὶkaieven ὑπὲρhypermore ὁho- λέγωlegōI ask . ποιήσειςpoiēseisyou will do
