3καὶkaiand ἔλεγονelegonsaying , ΧαῖρεChaire“ Hail , ὁho- ΒασιλεὺςBasileusKing τῶνtōnof the ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJews ! ” καὶkaiand ἐδίδουνedidoun[and] began plotting αὐτῷautō. . . ῥαπίσματαrhapismata. . . .

26ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus οὖνoun[When] ἰδὼνidōnsaw τὴνtēn[His] μητέραmēteramother καὶkaiand τὸνtonthe μαθητὴνmathētēndisciple παρεστῶταparestōtastanding nearby , ὃνhonwhom ἠγάπαēgapaHe loved λέγειlegeiHe said τῇtēto μητρίmētri[His] mother , αὐτοῦautouvvv ΓύναιGynai“ Woman , ἴδεidehere [is] ὁho- υἱόςhuiosson . ” σουsouyour
27εἶταeitaThen λέγειlegeiHe said τῷtōto the μαθητῇmathētēdisciple , ἸδοὺIdou“ [Here is] ἡhēthe μήτηρmētērmother σουsouyour καὶkaiSo ἀπ’ap’from ἐκείνηςekeinēsthat τῆςtēs- ὥραςhōrashour , ἔλαβενelabentook ὁho[this] μαθητὴςmathētēsdisciple αὐτὴνautēnher εἰςeisinto τὰta[his] ἴδιαidia[home] .
28ΜετὰMetaAfter τοῦτοtoutothis , εἰδὼςeidōsknowing ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ὅτιhotithat πάνταpantaeverything ἤδηēdēvvv τετέλεσταιtetelestaihad now been accomplished , ἵναhina[and] to τελειωθῇteleiōthēfulfill ἡhēthe γραφὴgraphēScripture , λέγειlegeisaid , ΔιψῶDipsō“ I am thirsty . ”
29σκεῦοςskeuosA jar οὖνounSo ἔκειτοekeitowas sitting [there] . ὄξουςoxoussour wine μεστόνmestonof ΟἱHoithe δὲdeBut πλήσαντεςplesantesfilled σπόγγονspongona sponge ὄξουςoxous[in the] wine , καὶkaiAnd ὑσσώπῳhyssōpōa stalk of hyssop , περιθέντεςperithentesput [it] on προσήνεγκανprosēnenkan[and] lifted αὐτοῦautouit τῷtōto [His] στόματιstomatimouth .
30ὅτεhoteWhen οὖνoun- ἔλαβεelabeswept over τῷtōto [His] ὄξοςoxossour wine , ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus εἰπὲeipesay ΤετέλεσταιTetelestai“ It is finished . ” καὶkaiAnd κλίναςklinasbowing τὴνtēn[His] κεφαλὴνkephalēnhead , παρέδωκεparedokehanded τὸto[His] πνεῦμαpneumaspirit .
31ΟἱHoithe οὖνoun- ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews ἵναhinato have μὴmēvvv μείνῃmeinēwould not remain ἐπὶepion τοῦtouthe σταυροῦstauroucross τὰtathe σώματαsōmatabodies ἐνenduring τῷtōthe σαββάτῳsabbatōSabbath , ἐπεὶepei- ΠαρασκευὴParaskeuē[the] day of Preparation , ἦνēnIt was ἦνēnIt was γὰρgar[and] μεγάληmegalēa High ἡhē- ἡμέραhēmeraday ἐκείνουekeinou[the next] τοῦtou- σαββάτουsabbatouSabbath . ἠρώτησανērōtēsanasked τὸνton- ΠιλᾶτονPilatonPilate ἵναhinato have κατεαγῶσινkateagōsinbroken αὐτῶνautōn[the bodies] τὰtathe σκέληskelēlegs καὶkaiand ἀρθῶσινarthōsinremoved .
32ἦλθονēlthoncame οὖνounSo οἱhoithe στρατιῶταιstratiōtaisoldiers καὶkaiand τοῦtouof the μὲνmen- πρώτουprōtoufirst [man] κατέαξανkateaxanbroke τὰtathe σκέληskelēlegs καὶkaiand τοῦtouof the ἄλλουallouother . τοῦtou[those] of the συσταυρωθέντοςsystaurōthentoshad been crucified with αὐτῷautō[Jesus] ,
33ἐπὶepito δὲdeBut τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus ἐλθόντεςelthontesthey came ὡςhōswhen εἶδονeidon[and] saw that αὐτὸνautonHe ἤδηēdēwas already τεθνηκόταtethnēkotadead , οὐouvvv κατέαξανkateaxanthey did not break αὐτοῦautouHis τὰta- σκέληskelēlegs .
34ἀλλ’all’Instead , εἷςheisone τῶνtōnof the στρατιωτῶνstratiōtōnsoldiers λόγχῃlonchēwith a spear , αὐτοῦautouHis τὴνtēn- πλευρὰνpleuranside ἔνυξε,enuxepierced καὶkaiand εὐθέωςeutheōsat once . ἐξῆλθενexēlthenflowed out . αἷμαhaimablood καὶkaiand ὕδωρhydōrwater
35καὶkaiand ὁhoThe [one who] ἑωρακὼςheōrakōssaw [it] μεμαρτύρηκε,memarturekehe has testified καὶkaiand ἀληθινὴalēthinētrue . αὐτοῦautouhis ἐστινestinis ἡhē- μαρτυρίαmartyriatestimony κἀκεῖνοςkakeinosAnd he οἶδενoidenknows ὅτιhotithat ἀληθῆalēthē[the] truth , λέγειlegeihe is telling ἵναhinaso that καὶkaialso ὑμεῖςhymeisyou πιστεύσητεpisteusēteyou will not believe .
36ἘγένετοEgenetohappened γὰρgarNow ταῦταtautathese things ἵναhinaso that ἡhēthe γραφὴgraphēScripture πληρωθῇplērōthēwould be fulfilled : ὈστοῦνOstounbones οὐou“ Not one συντριβήσεταιsyntribēsetaiwill be broken .” αὐτοῦautouof His
37καὶkaiAnd πάλινpalin. . . , ἑτέραheteraas another γραφὴgraphēScripture λέγειlegeisays : ὌψονταιOpsontai“ They will look εἰςeison ὃνhonthe [One] ἐξεκέντησανexekentēsanthey have pierced .”

39ἔλθῃelthēshould come δὲde- καὶkaiand ΝικόδημοςNikodēmosNicodemus , ὁhowho ἐλθὼνelthōnhad previously come πρὸςprosto τῶνtōnthe ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus νυκτὸςnyktosat night , τὸto. . . πρῶτονprōton. . . φέρωνpherōnbrought μίγμαmigmaa mixture σμύρνηςsmyrnēsof myrrh καὶkaiand ἀλόηςaloēsaloes , ὡςhōsabout λίτραςlitras. . . . ἑκατόνhekatonseventy-five pounds
