2ἀκούσαντεςakousantesthey heard δὲde[When] ὅτιhoti- τῇvvv ἙβραΐδιHebraidiin Hebrew διαλέκτῳdialektō. . . , προσεφώνειprosephōneihim speak to αὐτοῖςautoisthem μᾶλλονmalloneven more παρέσχονpareschonthey became ἡσυχίανhēsychiansilent .
3ΚαὶKaiThen φησίνphēsin[Paul] declared , ἘγώEgō“ I μὲνmen- εἰμιeimiam ἀνὴρanērman [named] ἸουδαῖοςIoudaiosa Jew γεγεννημένοςgegennēmenosborn ἐνenin ΤαρσῷTarsōTarsus τῆςtēs- ΚιλικίαςKilikiasof Cilicia , ἀνατεθραμμένοςanatethrammenosraised δὲdebut ἐνenin τῇ- πόλειpoleicity . ταύτῃtautēthis παρὰparaat τοὺςtousthe πόδαςpodasfeet ΓαμαλιήλGamaliēlof Gamaliel πεπαιδευμένοςpepaideumenosI was educated κατὰkataconformity ἀκρίβειανakribeianin strict τοῦtouto the πατρῴουpatrōouof our fathers . νόμουnomoulaw ζηλωτὴςzēlōtēs{just as} zealous ὑπάρχωνhyparchōnI am τοῦtoufor ΘεοῦTheouGod καθὼςkathōsas πάντεςpantesany of ὑμεῖςhymeisyou ἐστεeste[here] σήμερονsēmerontoday .
4ὃςhos[I] ταύτηνtautēnthis τὴνtēn- ὉδὸνHodonWay ἐδίωξαediōxapersecuted ἄχριachrieven to the θανάτουthanatoudeath , δεσμεύωνdesmeuōndetaining καὶkaiand παραδιδοὺςparadidousthrowing them εἰςeisinto φυλακὰςphylakasprison , ἄνδραςandrasmen τεteboth καὶkaiand γυναῖκαςgynaikaswomen
5ὡςhōsas καὶkaiand hothe ἀρχιερεὺςarchiereushigh priest μαρτυρεῖmartyreican testify μοιmoiabout me . καὶkaivvv πᾶνpanwhole τὸtothe πρεσβυτέριονpresbyterionCouncil παρ’par’from ὧνhōnthem καὶkaivvv ἐπιστολὰςepistolasletters δεξάμενοςdexamenosI even obtained πρὸςprosto τοὺςtous[their] ἀδελφοὺςadelphousbrothers εἰςeisin ΔαμασκὸνDamaskonDamascus , ἐπορευόμηνeporeuomēn[and] I was on my way ἄξωνaxōnbring [them] καὶkaiand τοὺςtous[these people] ἐκεῖσεekeise. . . ὄνταςontas. . . δεδεμένουςdedemenousto apprehend εἰςeisin ἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēmJerusalem ἵναhinato τιμωρηθῶσινtimōrēthōsinbe punished .
6ἘγένετοEgeneto[as] δέde- μοιmoiI πορευομένῳporeuomenōvvv καὶkaivvv ἐγγίζοντιengizontiwas approaching τῇ- ΔαμασκῷDamaskōDamascus , περὶperiaround μεσημβρίανmesēmbriannoon ἐξαίφνηςexaiphnēssuddenly ἐκekfrom τοῦtou- οὐρανοῦouranouheaven περιαστράψαιperiastrapsaiflashed φῶςphōslight ἱκανὸνhikanona bright περὶperiaround ἐμέememe .
7ἔπεσόνepesonI fell τεte- εἰςeisto τὸtothe ἔδαφοςedaphosground καὶkaiand ἤκουσαēkousaheard φωνῆςphōnēsa voice λεγούσηςlegousēssay μοιmoito me , ΣαοὺλSaoul‘ Saul , ΣαοὺλSaoul‘ Saul , τίtiwhy μεmeMe ? ’ διώκειςdiōkeisdo you persecute
8ἘγὼEgōI δὲde- ἀπεκρίθηνapekrithēnasked . ΤίςTis‘ Who εἶeiare You , ΚύριεKyrieLord ? ’ εἰπὲeipesay τεte- πρὸςpros- μεmeMe ? ’ ἘγὼEgōI εἰμιeimiam ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus hoof ΝαζωραῖοςNazōraiosNazareth , ὃνhonwhom σὺsyyou διώκειςdiōkeisare persecuting , ’
9οἱhoiMy companions δὲde- σὺνsyn. . . ἐμοὶemoi. . . ὄντεςontes. . . τὸtothe μὲνmen- φῶςphōslight , ἐθεάσαντοetheasantosaw καὶkaiand ἔμφοβοιemphoboifrightened , ἘγένοντοEgenontobecame τὴνtēnthe δὲdebut φωνὴνphōnēnvoice οὐκoukvvv ἤκουσανēkousanthey could not understand τοῦtouof the [One] λαλοῦντόςlalountosspeaking μοιmoito me .
10ΕἶπονEiponI asked , δέdeThen ΤίTi‘ What ποιήσωpoiēsōshould I do , ΚύριεKyrieLord ? ’ Ho- δὲde- ΚύριοςKyrios[He] εἰπὲeipesay πρόςpros. . . μεmeme . ἈναστὰςAnastas‘ Get up πορεύουporeuou[and] go εἰςeisinto ΔαμασκόνDamaskonDamascus , ’ κἀκεῖkakei‘ There σοιsoiyou λαληθήσεταιlalēthēsetaiwill be told περὶperi- πάντωνpantōnall ὧνhōnthat τέτακταίtetaktaihave been appointed σοιsoiyou ποιῆσαιpoiēsaito do . ’
11ὩςHōsBecause δὲde- οὐκoukvvv ἐνέβλεπονenebleponhad blinded me ἀπὸapo- , τῆςtēsthe δόξηςdoxēsbrilliance τοῦtou- φωτὸςphōtoslight ἐκείνουekeinouof the χειραγωγούμενοςcheiragōgoumenosled me by the hand ὑπὸhypo- τῶνtōnmy companions συνόντωνsynontōn. . . μοιmoi. . . ἦλθονēlthonvvv εἰςeisinto ΔαμασκόνDamaskonDamascus .
12ἉνανίαςHananiasAnanias , δέde[There] τιςtisa ἀνὴρanērman [named] εὐλαβὴςeulabēsa devout κατὰkataobserver τὸνtonof the νόμονnomonlaw μαρτυρούμενοςmartyroumenos[who was] highly regarded ὑπὸhypoby πάντωνpantōnall τῶνtōnthe κατοικούντωνkatoikountōnliving there , ἐνenat ΔαμασκῷDamaskōDamascus , ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJews
13ἐλθὼνelthōncame πρὸςpros- μεmeme . καὶkaiand ἐπιστὰςepistasstood beside εἰπὲeipesay μοιmoi- , ΣαοὺλSaoulSaul , ’ ἀδελφέadelphe‘ Brother ἀνάβλεψονanablepson‘ receive your sight . ’ κἀγὼkagōAnd αὐτῇautēthat τῇat ὥρᾳhōra[moment] ἀνέβλεψαaneblepsaI could see εἰςeis. . . αὐτόνautonhim .
14Ho- δὲdeThen εἶπενeipenhe said , Ho‘ The ΘεὸςTheosGod τῶνtōn- πατέρωνpaterōnfathers ἡμῶνhēmōnof our προεχειρίσατόproecheirisatohas appointed σεseyou γνῶναιgnōnaito know τὸto- θέλημαthelēmawill , αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkaiand ἰδεῖνideinto see τὸνtonthe ΔίκαιονDikaionRighteous One , καὶkaiand ἀκοῦσαιakousaito hear φωνὴνphōnēn[His] voice ἐκek. . . τοῦtou. . . στόματοςstomatos. . . . αὐτοῦautou. . .
15ὅτιhoti- ἔσῃesēYou will be μάρτυςmartyswitness αὐτῷautōHis πρὸςprosto πάνταςpantaseveryone ἀνθρώπουςanthrōpous. . . ὧνhōnof what ἑώρακαςheōrakasyou have seen καὶkaiand ἤκουσαςēkousasheard .
16καὶkaiAnd νῦνnynnow τίtiwhat μέλλειςmelleisare you waiting for ? ἀναστὰςanastasGet up , βάπτισαιbaptisaibe baptized , καὶkaiand ἀπόλουσαιapolousaiwash τὰςtas- ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassins {away} , σουsouyour ἐπικαλεσάμενοςepikalesamenoscalling on τὸto- ὄνομαonomaname . ’ τοῦtou. . . ΚυρίουKyriouLord .
17ἘγένετοEgeneto- , δέdeLater μοιmoi[when] I ὑποστρέψαντιhypostrepsantihad returned εἰςeisto ἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēmJerusalem καὶkaiand προσευχομένουproseuchomenouwas praying μουmou- ἐνenat τῷthe ἱερῷhierōtemple , γενέσθαιgenesthaifell μεmeI ἐνeninto ἐκστάσειekstaseia trance καὶkaiand ἰδεῖνideinsaw αὐτὸνauton[the Lord] λέγοντάlegontasaying μοιmoito me ,
18ΣπεῦσονSpeuson‘ Hurry ! καὶkai- ἔξελθεexeltheLeave ἐνenvvv τάχειtacheiquickly , ἐξex. . . ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmJerusalem διότιdiotibecause οὐouvvv παραδέξονταίparadexontai[the people here] will not accept σουsouyour μαρτυρίανmartyriantestimony περὶperiabout ἐμοῦemouMe . ’
19ΚἀγὼKagōI εἶπονeiponanswered , ΚύριεKyrie‘ Lord , ’ αὐτοὶautoi‘ vvv ἐπίστανταιepistantaithey know very well ὅτιhotithat ἐγὼegōI ἤμηνēmēnvvv φυλακίζωνphylakizōnimprisoned καὶkaiand δέρωνderōnbeat κατὰkatain one τὰςtasafter another συναγωγὰςsynagōgassynagogue τοὺςtousthose who πιστεύονταςpisteuontasbelieved ἐπὶepiin σέseYou .
20καὶkaiAnd ὅτεhotewhen ἐξεχετοexekhetowas shed , τὸtothe αἷμαhaimablood ΣτεφάνουStephanouStephen τοῦtou- μάρτυρόςmartyroswitness σουsouof Your καὶkaiAnd αὐτὸςautosI ἤμηνēmēnvvv ἐφεστὼςephestōsstood there καὶkaivvv συνευδοκῶνsyneudokōngiving my approval τεte[As] ἀναιρέσειanaireseideath . αὐτοῦautouto [Paul] καὶkaiThen φυλάσσωνphylassōnwatching over τὰtathe ἱμάτιαhimatiagarments τῶνtōnof those who ἀναιρούντωνanairountōnkilled αὐτόνautonhim . ’
21ΚαὶKaiThen εἰπὲeipesay πρόςprosto μεmeme , ΠορεύουPoreuou‘ Go ! ὅτιhoti- ἐγὼegōI εἰςeisto ἔθνηethnē[the] Gentiles . ’ ” μακρὰνmakranfar away ἐξαποστελῶexapostelōwill send σεseyou
22ἬκουονĒkouon[The crowd] listened δὲde- αὐτοῦautouto [Paul] ἄχριachriuntil τούτουtoutou. . . . τοῦtou- λόγουlogouhe made this statement καὶkaiThen ἐπῆρανepēranthey lifted up τὴνtēn- φωνὴνphōnēnvoices αὐτῶνautōntheir λέγοντεςlegontes[and] shouted , ΑἶρεAire“ Rid ἀπὸapoof τῆςtēsthe γῆςgēsearth τὸνton- τοιοῦτονtoiouton[him] ! οὐouvvv γὰρgar- καθῆκενkathēkenHe is not fit αὐτὸνauton. . . ζῆνzēnto live ! ”
23ΚραυγαζόντωνKraugazontōnwere shouting δὲde- αὐτῶνautōntheir καὶkaiThen ῥιπτόντωνriptontonthrowing off τὰta[their] ἱμάτιαhimatiacloaks καὶkaiand κονιορτὸνkoniortondust βαλλόντωνballontōntossing εἰςeisinto τὸνtonthe ἀέραaeraair ,
24ἐκέλευσενekeleusenordered that αὐτὸνauton[Paul] hothe χιλίαρχοςchiliarchoscommander ἄγεσθαιagesthaibe brought εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe παρεμβολήνparembolēnbarracks . εἶπονeiponanswered , μάστιξινmastixinbe flogged ἀνετάζεσθαιanetazesthaiand interrogated αὐτὸνauton[Paul] ἵναhinato ἐπιγνῷepignōdetermine δι’di’for ἣνhēnvvv αἰτίανaitianthe reason οὕτωςhoutōsthis ἐπεφώνουνepephōnounoutcry αὐτῷautōagainst him .
25ὩςHōsas δὲdeBut προέτεινανproeteinanthey stretched him out αὐτὸνauton. . . τοῖςtoisvvv ἱμᾶσινhimasinto strap him down , εἰπὲeipesay πρὸςprosto τὸνtonthe ἑστῶταhestōtastanding there , ἑκατόνταρχονhekatontarchoncenturion ho- ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul ΕἰEi“ vvv ἄνθρωπονanthrōpona ῬωμαῖονRhōmaionRoman citizen καὶkai- ἀκατάκριτονakatakritonwithout a trial ? ” ἔξεστινexestinIs it lawful ὑμῖνhyminfor you μαστίζεινmastizeinto flog
26ἈκούσαςAkousashearing [this] , δὲde[On] hothe ἑκατόνταρχοςhekatontarchosa centurion προσελθὼνproselthōnwent ἀπήγγειλεapeggeileshe explained τῷto the χιλιάρχῳchiliarchōcommander . λέγωνlegōnhe said . ὥρᾳhōra[moment] τίtiwhat μέλλειςmelleisare you waiting for ? ποιεῖνpoieinto do ? ” ho- γὰρgar“ - ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman οὗτοςhoutosThis ῬωμαῖόςRhōmaiosa Roman citizen . ” ἐστίestiI have
27ΠροσελθὼνProselthōnwent δὲde- hoThe χιλίαρχοςchiliarchoscommander εἶπενeipenand asked , αὐτῷautōto [Paul] ΛέγεLege“ Tell μοιmoime , εἶeiare σὺsyyou ῬωμαῖοςRhōmaiosa Roman citizen ? ” εἶeiare Ho- δὲde- ἔφηephēhe answered . ΝαίNai“ Yes , ”
28ἈπεκρίθηApekrithēsaid ΤῇThe hothe χιλίαρχοςchiliarchoscommander ἘγὼEgōI πολλοῦpolloua high κεφαλαίουkephalaiouprice τὴνtēn[for my] πολιτείανpoliteiancitizenship , ” ταύτηνtautēn- ἐκτησάμηνektēsamēnpaid Ho- δὲde- ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul ἔφηephēreplied . ἘγὼEgōI δὲde“ But καὶkaivvv γεγέννημαιgegennēmaiwas born a citizen , ”
29ΕὐθέωςEutheōs. . . οὖνounThen ἀπέστησανapestēsanstepped back ἀπ’ap’. . . αὐτοῦautou. . . , οἱhoithose who μέλλοντεςmellonteswere about αὐτὸνauton[Paul] ἀνετάζεινanetazeinto interrogate καὶkaiand hothe χιλίαρχοςchiliarchoscommander δὲde[himself] ἐφοβήθηephobēthēwas alarmed ἐπιγνοὺςepignouswhen he realized ὅτιhoti. . . ῬωμαῖόςRhōmaiosa Roman citizen {in chains} . ἐστίestiI have καὶkai- ὅτιhotithat ἦνēnvvv αὐτὸνauton- δεδεκώςdedekōshe had put
30ΤῇThe δὲde- ἐπαύριονepaurionnext day [the commander] , βουλόμενοςboulomenoswanting γνῶναιgnōnaito learn τὸto- ἀσφαλὲςasphalesthe real reason τὸto- τίti. . . κατηγορεῖταιkatēgoreitai[Paul] was accused παρὰparaat τῶνtōnmy companions ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJews ἔλυσενelysenreleased αὐτόνautonhim ἀπὸapoof τὸνton- δεσμῶνdesmōnchains . ” καὶkaiThen ἐκέλευσενekeleusenordered that ἐλθεῖνeltheinto come τοὺςtousthose who ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests καὶkaiand ὅλονholonall τὸtothe συνέδριονsynedrionSanhedrin αὐτόνautonhim καὶkaiand καταγαγὼνkatagagōnhe brought τὸνton- ΠαῦλονPaulonPaul {down} ἔστησενestēsenand had him stand εἰςeisbefore αὐτούςautousthem .
