2ΚαὶKai- προσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenos[Jesus] invited ὁhothe ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus παιδίονpaidionlittle child ἔστησενestēsento stand αὐτὸauto. . . ἐνenvvv μέσῳmesōamong them . αὐτῶνautōnvvv καὶkai- εἶπενeipenHe said ,
3ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ” ἐὰνean“ unless μὴmē. . . στραφῆτεstraphēteyou change καὶkaiand γένησθεgenēsthebecome ὡςhōslike τὰta- παιδίαpaidialittle children , οὐouvvv μὴmēvvv εἰσέλθητεeiselthēteyou will never enter εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven .
4ὅστιςhostiswhoever οὖνounTherefore , ταπεινώσειtapeinōseihumbles ἑαυτὸνheautonhimself ὡςhōslike τὸto- παιδίονpaidionlittle child τοῦτοtoutothis οὗτόςhoutos- ἐστινestinis ὁhothe μείζωνmeizōngreatest ἐνenin τῇtēthe βασιλείᾳbasileiakingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven .
5καὶkaiAnd ὃςhoswhoever ἐὰνeanvvv δέξηταιdexētaiwelcomes παιδίονpaidionlittle child τοιούτωνtoioutōnsuch as these . ἓνhena ἐπὶepiin τῷtō- ὀνόματίonomatiname μουmouMy ἐμὲemeMe . δέχεταιdechetaiwelcomes
6ὋςHosanyone δ’d’But ἂνanif σκανδαλίσῃskandalisēcauses ἕναhenaone τῶνtōn- μικρῶνmikrōnlittle ones τούτωνtoutōnof these τῶνtōn- πιστευόντωνpisteuontōnbelieve εἰςeisin ἐμέemeMe {to stumble} , συμφέρειsymphereiit would be better αὐτῷautōfor him ἵναhinato have κρεμασθῇkremasthēhung μύλοςmylosmillstone ὀνικὸςonikosa large εἰςeisin τῶνtōnwho τράχηλονtrachēlonneck αὐτοῦautouhis καὶkaiand καταποντισθῇkatapontisthēto be drowned ἐνenin τῷtōthe πελάγειpelageidepths τῆςtēsof the θαλάσσηςthalassēssea .
7ΟὐαὶOuaiWoe τῷtōto the κόσμῳkosmōworld ἀπὸapofor τῶνtōnthe σκανδάλωνskandalōncauses of sin . ἀνάγκηanankēmust γὰρgar- ἐστινestinIt is ἐλθεῖνeltheincome , τὰta[These] σκάνδαλαskandalastumbling blocks πλὴνplēnbut οὐαὶouaiwoe τῷtōto the ἀνθρώπῳanthrōpōman ἐκείνῳekeinōto that δι’di’through οὗhouwhom τὸto- σκάνδαλονskandalon[they] ἔρχεταιerchetaicome !
8ΕἰEiIf δὲde- ἡhē- χείρcheirhand σουsouyour ἢēor ὁho- πούςpousfoot σουsouyour σκανδαλίζειskandalizeicauses you to sin σεse. . . , ἔκκοψονekkopsoncut it off αὐτὰautatheir καὶkaiand βάλεbalethrow it away ἀπὸapo. . . σοῦsou. . . . καλόνkalonbetter σοίsoifor you ἐστινestinIt is εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinto enter εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēn- ζωὴνzōēnlife χωλόνchōlonlame ἢēthan κυλλὸνkylloncrippled ἢēor δύοdyotwo χεῖραςcheirashands ἢē[and] δύοdyotwo πόδαςpodasfeet ἔχονταechontato have βληθῆναιblēthēnai[and] be thrown εἰςeisinto τὸtothe πῦρpyrfire . τὸto- αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal
9καὶkaiAnd εἰeiif ὁho- ὀφθαλμόςophthalmoseye σουsouyour σκανδαλίζειskandalizeicauses you to sin σεse. . . , ἔξελεexelegouge it out αὐτὸνauton. . . καὶkaiand βάλεbalethrow it away ἀπὸapo. . . σοῦsou. . . . καλόνkalonbetter σοίsoifor you ἐστιestiis μονόφθαλμονmonophthalmonwith one eye εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēn- ζωὴνzōēnlife εἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinto enter ἢēthan δύοdyotwo ὀφθαλμοὺςophthalmouseyes ἔχονταechontato have βληθῆναιblēthēnai[and] be thrown εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe γέεννανgeennanhell . τοῦtouof πυρόςpyrosfire
10ὉρᾶτεHorateSee [that] μὴmēvvv καταφρονήσητεkataphronēsēteyou do not look down on ἑνὸςhenosany τῶνtōn- μικρῶνmikrōnlittle ones . τούτωνtoutōnof these λέγωlegōI tell γὰρgarFor ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhotithat οἱhoi- ἄγγελοιangeloiangels αὐτῶνautōntheir ἐνenin οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven διὰdiaalways παντὸςpantos. . . βλέπουσιblepousisee τὸtothe πρόσωπονprosōponface τοῦtouof ΠατρόςPatrosFather μουmouMy τοῦtouof ἐνenin οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven .
11ἔλθῃelthēshould come γὰρgarFor ὁho- ΥἱὸςHuios[the] Son τοῦtouof ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man σῶσαιsōsaito save τὸtothe ἀπολωλὸςapolōlosthat is lost ,
12ΤίTiWhat ὑμῖνhymin{do} you δοκεῖdokeithink ? ἐὰνeanIf γένηταίgenētaihas τινιtinia ἀνθρώπῳanthrōpōman ἑκατὸνhekatona hundred πρόβαταprobatasheep καὶkaiand πλανηθῇplanēthēgoes astray , ἓνhenone ἐξexof αὐτῶνautōnthem οὐχὶouchivvv ἀφεὶςapheis[Jesus] dismissed τὰtathe ἐνενήκονταenenēkontaninety-nine ἐννέαennea. . . ἐπὶepion τὰtathe ὄρηorēhills πορευθεὶςporeutheisgo out ζητεῖzēteito search for τὸtothe [one] πλανώμενονplanōmenonthat is lost ?
13καὶkaiAnd ἐὰνeanif γένηταιgenētaihe εὑρεῖνheureinfinds αὐτόautoit , ἀμὴνamēntruly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhoti- χαίρειchaireihe rejoices ἐπ’ep’over αὐτῷautō[that one sheep] μᾶλλονmallonmore ἢēthan ἐπὶepiover τοῖςtoisthe ἐνενήκονταenenēkontaninety-nine ἐννέαennea. . . τοῖςtois- μὴmēvvv πεπλανημένοιςpeplanēmenoisthat did not go astray .
14οὕτωςhoutōsIn the same way , οὐκouknot ἔστιestiis θέλημαthelēmawilling ἔμπροσθενemprosthen- τοῦtou- ΠατρὸςPatrosFather ὑμῶνhymōnyour τοῦtou- ἐνenin οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven ἵναhinathat ἀπόληταιapolētaishould perish . ‹εἰςeisagainst τῶνtōn- μικρῶνmikrōnlittle ones τούτωνtoutōnof these
15ἘὰνEanIf δὲde- ἁμαρτήσῃhamartēsēsins ‹εἰςeisagainst σὲ›seyou , ὁho- ἀδελφόςadelphosbrother σουsouyour ὕπαγεhypagego ἔλεγξονelenxon[and] confront αὐτὸνautonhim μεταξὺmetaxy. . . σοῦsou. . . καὶkai. . . αὐτοῦautou. . . . μόνουmonouprivately ἐάνeanIf σουsouyou , ἀκούσῃakousēhe listens to ἐκέρδησαςekerdēsasyou have won τὸνton- ἀδελφόνadelphonbrother {over} . σουsouyour
16ἐὰνeanif δὲdeBut μὴmē- ἀκούσῃakousēhe will not listen , παράλαβεparalabetake μετὰmetaalong σοῦsou. . . , ἔτιetiothers ἕναhenaone ἢēor δύοdyotwo ἵναhinaso that ἘπὶEpiby στόματοςstomatos[the] testimony δύοdyoof two μαρτύρωνmartyrōnwitnesses .’ ἢēor τριῶνtriōnthree σταθῇstathēmay be established πᾶνpan‘ every ῥῆμαrhēmamatter
17ἐὰνeanIf δὲde- παρακούσῃparakousēhe refuses to listen αὐτῶνautōnto them , εἰπὲeipesay τῇtēto the ἐκκλησίᾳekklēsiachurch . ἐὰνeanif δὲdeAnd καὶkaieven τῆςtēsto the ἐκκλησίαςekklēsiaschurch , παρακούσῃparakousēhe refuses to listen ἔστωestōregard [him] σοιsoiyou [would] ὥσπερhōsperas ὁhoa ἐθνικὸςethnikospagan καὶkai[or] ὁho- τελώνηςtelōnēsa tax collector .
18ἈμὴνAmēnTruly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅσαhosawhatever ἐὰνean. . . δήσητεdēsēteyou bind ἐπὶepion τῆςtēs- γῆςgēsearth ἔσταιestaiwill be δεδεμέναdedemenabound ἐνenin τὸto- οὐρανῷouranōheaven . καὶkaiand ὅσαhosawhatever ἐὰνean. . . λύσητεlysēteyou loose ἐπὶepion τῆςtēs- γῆςgēsearth ἔσταιestaiwill be λελυμέναlelymenaloosed ἐνenin τὸto- οὐρανῷouranōheaven .
19ΠάλινPalinAgain , ἀμὴνamēntruly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhotithat ἐὰνeanif δύοdyotwo ὑμῶνhymōnyou συμφωνήσωσινsymphōnēsōsinagree ἐπὶepion τῆςtēsthe γῆςgēsearth περὶperiabout παντὸςpantosanything πράγματοςpragmatos. . . οὗhou- ἐὰνeanvvv αἰτήσωνταιaitēsōntai[you] ask for , γενήσεταιgenēsetaiit will be done αὐτοῖςautoisfor [you] παρὰparaby τοῦtou- ΠατρόςPatrosFather μουmouMy τοῦtou- ἐνenin οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven .
20οὗhouwhere γάρgarFor εἰσιeisiare δύοdyotwo ἢēor τρεῖςtreisthree συνηγμένοιsynēgmenoigather together εἰςeisin τὸto- ἐμὸνemonMy ὄνομαonomaname , ἐκεῖekeithere εἰμιeimiam I ἐνenwith them μέσῳmesō. . . . ” αὐτῶνautōn. . .
21ΤότεToteThen προσελθὼνproselthōncame αὐτῷautōto [Jesus] ὁho- ΠέτροςPetrosPeter εἰπὲeipesay ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , ποσάκιςposakishow many times ἁμαρτήσειhamartēseiwho sins εἰςeisagainst ἐμὲememy ὁho- ἀδελφόςadelphosbrother μουmoume ? καὶkai- ἀφήσωaphēsōshall I forgive αὐτῷautō- ἕωςheōsUp to ἑπτάκιςheptakisseven times ? ”
22ΛέγειLegeianswered αὐτῷautō. . . , ὁho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΟὐOunot λέγωlegō“ I tell σοιsoiyou , ἕωςheōsjust ἑπτάκιςheptakisseven times , ἀλλ’all’Instead , ἕωςheōsjust ἑβδομηκοντάκιςhebdomēkontakisseventy-seven times ἑπτάhepta. . . !
23ΔιὰDiaBecause of τοῦτοtoutothis , ὡμοιώθηhōmoiōthēis like ἡhēthe βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven ἀνθρώπῳanthrōpō- βασιλεῖbasileia king ὃςhoswho ἠθέλησενēthelēsenwanted συνᾶραιsynaraito settle λόγονlogonaccounts μετὰmetawith τῶνtōn- δούλωνdoulōnservants . αὐτοῦautouhe
24ἀρξαμένουarxamenoubegan δὲdeAs αὐτοῦautouhe συναίρεινsynaireinthe settlements , προσηνέχθη*prosēnechthēwas brought αὐτῷautōto him εἷςheisa ὀφειλέτηςopheiletēsdebtor μυρίωνmyriōnowing ten thousand ταλάντωνtalantōntalents .
25μὴmēvvv ἔχοντοςechontoswas unable δὲdeSince αὐτοῦautou[the man] ἀποδοῦναιapodounaito pay , ἐκέλευσενekeleusenordered that αὐτὸνautonhe ὁhothe κύριοςkyriosmaster αὐτοῦautou[the man] πραθῆναιprathēnaibe sold καὶkai- τὴνtēn[his] γυναῖκαgynaikawife αὐτοῦautou[the man] καὶkai- τὰta- τέκναteknachildren καὶkaiand πάνταpantaeverything ὅσαhosa- εἶχε,eikhewho had καὶkaiand ἀποδοθῆναιapodothēnaito pay [his] debt ,
26ΠεσὼνPesōnfell οὖνounThen ὁhothe δοῦλοςdoulosservant προσεκύνειprosekyneion his knees αὐτῷautōbefore him . λέγωνlegōnhe begged , ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , ΜακροθύμησονMakrothymēson‘ Have patience ἐπ’ep’with ἐμοίemoime , ’ καὶkai‘ and πάνταpantaeverything . ’ σοιsoiback ἀποδώσωapodōsōI will pay
27ΣπλαγχνισθεὶςSplanchnistheishad compassion [on him] , δὲde- ὁho[His] κύριοςkyriosmaster τοῦtou- δούλουdoulou- ἐκείνουekeinou- ἀπέλυσενapelysen[and] released αὐτόνautonhim . καὶkai- τὸto- δάνειονdaneiondebt , ἀφῆκενaphēkenforgave αὐτῷautōhis
28ἘξελθὼνExelthōnwent out , δὲdeBut when ὁho- δοῦλοςdoulosservant ἐκεῖνοςekeinosthat εὗρενheurenhe found ἕναhenaone τῶνtōn- συνδούλωνsyndoulōnfellow servants αὐτοῦautouof his ὃςhoswho ὤφειλενōpheilenowed αὐτῷautōhim ἑκατὸνhekatona hundred δηνάριαdēnariadenarii . καὶkai- κρατήσαςkratēsasHe grabbed αὐτὸνautonhim ἔπνιγενepnigenand began to choke [him] , λέγωνlegōnsaying , ἈπόδοςApodos‘ Pay μοιmoifor me . εἴeiback τιtiwhat ὀφείλειςopheileisyou owe [me] !’
29ΠεσὼνPesōnfell down οὖνounSo ὁho- σύνδουλοςsyndoulosfellow servant αὐτοῦautouhis εἰςeisinto τοὺςtousvvv πόδαςpodasfeet αὐτοῦautouhis παρεκάλειparekalei[and] begged αὐτὸνautonhim λέγωνlegōn- , ΜακροθύμησονMakrothymēson‘ Have patience ἐπ’ep’with ἐμοίemoime , καὶkaiand ἀποδώσωapodōsōI will pay σοιsoiyou {back} . ’
30ὉHo- δὲdeBut οὐκoukvvv ἤθελενēthelenhe refused . ἀλλὰallaInstead , ἀπελθὼνapelthōnhe went ἔβαλενebalen[and] had [the man] thrown αὐτὸνauton. . . εἰςeisinto φυλακὴνphylakēnprison ἕωςheōsuntil ‹οὗ›hou. . . ἀποδῷapodōhe could pay τὸto[his] ὀφειλόμενονopheilomenondebt .
31ἸδόντεςIdontessaw δὲdeBut οἱhoi- σύνδουλοιsyndouloifellow servants αὐτοῦautouhis τὰtawhat γενόμεναgenomenahad happened , ἐλυπήθησανelypēthēsanthey were greatly distressed , σφόδραsphodravvv καὶkaiand ἐλθόντεςelthontesthey went διεσάφησανdiesaphēsan[and] recounted τῷtōto κυρίῳkyriōmaster . ἑαυτῶνheautōntheir πάνταpantaall τὰta- γενόμεναgenomena[of this]
32ΤότεToteThen προσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenossummoned αὐτὸνautonhim ὁhothe κύριοςkyriosmaster αὐτοῦautou- λέγειlegei[and] declared αὐτῷautō- , ΔοῦλεDouleservant ! πονηρέponēre‘ [You] wicked πᾶσανpasanall τὴνtēn- ὀφειλὴνopheilēndebt ἐκείνηνekeinēn[your] ἀφῆκάaphēkaI forgave σοιsoi- ἐπεὶepeibecause παρεκάλεσάςparekalesasyou begged μεmeme .
33οὐκouk. . . ἔδειedeiShouldn’t καὶkai- σὲseyou ἐλεῆσαιeleēsaihave had mercy τὸνton- σύνδουλόνsyndoulonfellow servant , σουsouon your ὡςhōsjust as καὶkai- ἐγὼegōI σὲseon you ? ’ ἠλέησαēleēsa[had]
34καὶkai- ὀργισθεὶςorgistheisIn anger ὁho- κύριοςkyriosmaster αὐτοῦautouhis παρέδωκενparedōkenturned him over αὐτὸνauton. . . τοῖςtoisto the βασανισταῖςbasanistaisjailers to be tortured , ἕωςheōsuntil οὗhou- ἀποδῷapodōhe should repay πᾶνpanall τὸtothat ὀφειλόμενονopheilomenonhe owed αὐτῷautō- ,
35Οὕτωouto[this] καὶkai- ὁho- ΠατήρPatērFather μουmouMy ὁho- ἐπουράνιοςepouraniosheavenly ποιήσειpoiēseiwill treat ὑμῖνhyminyou ἐὰνeanunless μὴmē. . . ἀφῆτεaphēteyou forgive ἕκαστοςhekastoseach of τῷtō- ἀδελφῷadelphōbrother αὐτοῦautou[your] ἀπὸapofrom τῶνtōn- καρδιῶνkardiōnheart . ” ὑμῶνhymōnyour τὰta- παραπτώματαparaptōmatatrespasses , αὐτὸνautonhim
