3ΚαθὼςKathōsAs παρεκάλεσάparekalesaI urged σεseyou προσμεῖναιprosmeinaiyou should stay on ἐνenat ἘφέσῳEphesōEphesus πορευόμενοςporeuomenoson my departure εἰςeisto ΜακεδονίανMakedonianMacedonia , ἵναhinato παραγγείλῃςparangeilēsinstruct τισὶtisisome μὴnot ἑτεροδιδασκαλεῖνheterodidaskaleinto teach false doctrines
4μηδὲmēde[or] προσέχεινprosecheindevote themselves μύθοιςmythoisto myths καὶkaiand γενεαλογίαιςgenealogiaisgenealogies , ἀπεράντοιςaperantoisendless αἵτινεςhaitineswhich ζητήσειςzētēseiscontroversies παρέχουσιparekhousipromote μᾶλλονmallonrather ēthan οἰκονομίανoikonomian[the] stewardship ΘεοῦTheouof God’s [work] , τὴνtēnwhich [is] ἐνenby πίστειpisteifaith .
5ΤὸToThe δὲde- τέλοςtelosgoal τῆςtēsof [our] παραγγελίαςparangeliasinstruction ἐστὶνestinis ἀγάπηagapē[the] love ἐκek[that comes] from καθαρᾶςkatharasa pure καρδίαςkardiasheart , καὶkai- συνειδήσεωςsyneidēseōsconscience , ἀγαθῆςagathēsa clear καὶkai- πίστεωςpisteōsfaith . ἀνυποκρίτουanypokritoua sincere
6ὧνhōnfrom [ these ways ] τινεςtinesSome ἀστοχήσαντεςastochēsanteshave strayed ἐξετράπησανexetrapēsan[and] turned aside εἰςeisto ματαιολογίανmataiologianempty talk .
7θέλοντεςthelontesThey want εἶναιeinaito be νομοδιδάσκαλοιnomodidaskaloiteachers of the law , μὴ. . . νοοῦντεςnoountes[but] they do not understand μήτεmēte. . . hawhat λέγουσιlegousisay μήτεmēte. . . περὶperi[that] τίνωνtinōnwhich διαβεβαιοῦνταιdiabebaiountaithey so confidently assert .
8ΟἴδαμενOidamenwe know δὲdeNow ὅτιhotithat καλὸςkalos[is] good , hothe νόμοςnomoslaw ἐάνeanif τιςtisone αὐτῷautōit νομίμωςnomimōslegitimately . χρῆταιchrētaiuses
9εἰδὼςeidōsWe realize τοῦτοtouto- ὅτιhotithat δικαίῳdikaiōfor [the] righteous , νόμοςnomoslaw οὐouvvv κεῖταιkeitaiis not enacted ἀνόμοιςanomoisfor [the] lawless δὲdebut καὶkaiand ἀνυποτάκτοιςanypotaktoisrebellious , ἀσεβέσιasebesifor [the] ungodly καὶkaiand ἁμαρτωλοῖςhamartōloissinful , ἀνοσίοιςanosioisfor [the] unholy καὶkaiand βεβήλοιςbebēloisprofane , πατρολῴαιςpatrolōaisfor killers of father καὶkai[or] μητρολῴαιςmētrolōaismother , ἀνδροφόνοιςandrophonoisfor murderers ,
10πόρνοιςpornoisfor the sexually immoral , ἀρσενοκοίταιςarsenokoitaisfor homosexuals , ἀνδραποδισταῖςandrapodistaisfor slave traders ψεύσταιςpseustais[and] liars ἐπιόρκοιςepiorkois[and] perjurers , καὶkaiand εἴeifor τιtianyone ἕτερονheteronelse τῇ- ὑγιαινούσῃhygiainousēsound διδασκαλίᾳdidaskaliateaching ἀντίκειταιantikeitaiwho is averse to
11κατὰkatathat agrees with τὸtothe εὐαγγέλιονeuangeliongospel τῆςtēs- δόξηςdoxēsglorious τοῦtouof the μακαρίουmakarioublessed ΘεοῦTheouGod , howith which ἐπιστεύθηνepisteuthēnhave been entrusted . ἐγώegōI
12καὶkaiand ΧάρινCharinthank ἔχωechōI τῷ- ἐνδυναμώσαντίendynamōsantihas strengthened μεmeme , ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἸησοῦIēsouJesus τῷ- ΚυρίῳKyriōLord , ἡμῶνhēmōnour ὅτιhotithat πιστόνpistonfaithful μεmeme ἡγήσατοhēgēsatoHe considered θέμενοςthemenos[and] appointed [me] εἰςeisto διακονίανdiakonianservice .
13τὸνtonthe πρότερονproteronformerly ὄνταontaI was βλάσφημονblasphēmona blasphemer , καὶkai- διώκτηνdiōktēna persecutor , καὶkaiand ὑβριστήνhybristēna violent [man] ; ἀλλ’all’Instead , ἠλεήθηνēleēthēnI was shown mercy . ὅτιhotibecause ἀγνοῶνagnoōnignorance ἐποίησαepoiēsaI had acted ἐνenin ἀπιστίᾳapistia[and] unbelief ,
14ὑπερεπλεόνασεuperepleonaseoverflowed [to me] , δὲdeAnd the χάριςcharisgrace τοῦtou- ΚυρίουKyriouLord ἡμῶνhēmōnof our μετὰmetaalong with πίστεωςpisteōs[the] faith καὶkaiand ἀγάπηςagapēslove τῆςtēsthat [are] ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἸησοῦIēsouJesus .
15ΠιστὸςPistos[This is a] trustworthy ho- λόγοςlogossaying , καὶkai- πάσηςpasēsof full ἀποδοχῆςapodochēsacceptance ἄξιοςaxiosworthy ὅτιhoti- : ΧριστὸςChristosChrist ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἦλθενēlthencame εἰςeisinto τὸνtonthe κόσμονkosmonworld ἁμαρτωλοὺςhamartōloussinners , σῶσαιsōsaito save ὧνhōnof whom πρῶτόςprōtos[the] worst . εἰμιeimiam ἐγώegōI
16ἀλλὰallaBut διὰdiafor this very reason τοῦτοtouto- ἠλεήθηνēleēthēnI was shown mercy , ἵναhinaso that ἐνenin ἐμοὶemoime , πρώτῳprōtō[the] worst [ of sinners ] , ἐνδείξηταιendeixētaimight display ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΧριστὸςChristosChrist τὴνtēn[His] πᾶσανpasanwhole μακροθυμίανmakrothymianpatience πρὸςprosas ὑποτύπωσινhypotypōsinan example τῶνtōnto those who μελλόντωνmellontōnwould πιστεύεινpisteueinbelieve ἐπ’ep’in αὐτῷautōHim εἰςeisfor ζωὴνzōēnlife . αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal
17Τῷto δὲdeNow ΒασιλεῖBasilei[the] King τῶνtōnvvv αἰώνωνaiōnōneternal , ἀφθάρτῳaphthartōimmortal , ἀοράτῳaoratō[and] invisible , μόνῳmonō[the] only σοφῷsophōwise ΘεῷTheōGod , τιμὴtimē[be] honor καὶkaiand δόξαdoxaglory εἰςeisvvv τοὺςtousvvv αἰῶναςaiōnasforever τῶνtōn[and] αἰώνωνaiōnōnever . ἀμήνamēnAmen .
18ΤαύτηνTautēnthis τὴνtēn- παραγγελίανparangeliancommand παρατίθεμαίparatithemaiI entrust σοιsoiyou with τέκνονteknon[my] child , ΤιμόθεεTimotheeTimothy , κατὰkatain keeping with τὰςtasthe προαγούσαςproagousasprevious ἐπὶepiabout σὲseyou , προφητείαςprophēteiasprophecies ἵναhinaso that στρατεύῃstrateuēyou may fight ἐνenby αὐταῖςautaisthem τὴνtēnthe καλὴνkalēngood στρατείανstrateianfight ,
19ἔχωνechōnholding on πίστινpistinto faith καὶkaiand ἀγαθὴνagathēna good συνείδησινsyneidēsinconscience , ἥνhēnwhich τινεςtinessome ἀπωσάμενοιapōsamenoihave rejected περὶperi- τὴνtēn[their] πίστινpistinfaith . ἐναυάγησανenauagēsan[and thereby] shipwrecked
20ὧνhōnAmong [them] ἐστινestinare ὙμέναιοςHymenaiosHymenaeus καὶkaiand ἈλέξανδροςAlexandrosAlexander , οὓςhouswhom παρέδωκαparedōkaI have handed over τῷ- ΣατανᾷSatanato Satan ἵναhinato παιδευθῶσιpaideuthosibe taught μὴnot βλασφημεῖνblasphēmeinto blaspheme .
