11ΜακάριοίMakarioiBlessed ἐστεesteare you ὅτανhotanwhen ὀνειδίσωσινoneidisōsin[people] insult ὑμᾶςhymasyou , καὶkai- διώξωσινdiōxōsinpersecute [you] , καὶkaiand εἴπωσινeipōsinsay πᾶνpanall kinds of πονηρὸνponēronevil καθ’kath’against ὑμῶνhymōnyou ψευδόμενοιpseudomenoifalsely ἕνεκενhenekenbecause of ἐμοῦemouMe .
12χαίρετεchaireteRejoice καὶkaiand ἀγαλλιᾶσθεagalliasthebe glad , ὅτιhotibecause ὁho- μισθὸςmisthosreward ὑμῶνhymōnyour πολὺςpolysgreat [is] ἐνenin τοῖςtois- οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven ; οὕτωouto[this] γὰρgarfor ἐδίωξανediōxanthey persecuted τοὺςtousthe προφήταςprophētasprophets τοὺςtous- πρὸprobefore ὑμῶνhymōnyou .
13ὙμεῖςHymeisYou ἐστεesteare τὸtothe ἅλαςhalassalt τῆςtēsof the γῆςgēsearth . ἐὰνeanif δὲdeBut τὸtothe ἅλαςhalassalt μωρανθῇmōranthēloses its savor , ἐνenhow τίνιtini. . . ἁλισθήσεταιhalisthēsetaican it be made salty again ? εἰςeisfor οὐδὲνouden[anything] , ἰσχύειischyeiIt is no longer good ἔτιeti. . . εἰeiexcept μὴmē. . . βληθῆναιblēthēnai[and] be thrown ἔξωexōout καὶkaiand καταπατεῖσθαιkatapateisthai[and] trampled ὑπὸhypoby τῶνtōn- ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen .
14ὙμεῖςHymeisYou ἐστεesteare τὸtothe φῶςphōslight τοῦtouof the κόσμουkosmouworld . οὐou. . . δύναταιdynataicannot πόλιςpolisA city κρυβῆναιkrybēnaibe hidden . ἐπάνωepanōon ὄρουςorousa hill κειμένηkeimenē-
15οὐδὲoudeNeither καίουσιkaiousido [people] light λύχνονlychnona lamp καὶkaiand τιθέασινtitheasinput αὐτὸνautonit ὑπὸhypounder τὸνton- μόδιονmodiona basket . ἀλλ’all’Instead , ἐπὶepi[they set it] on τὴνtēn- λυχνίανlychniana stand , καὶkaiand λάμπειlampeiit gives light πᾶσιpasiall τοῖςtois- ἐνenin τῇtēthe οἰκίᾳoikiahouse .
16οὕτωςhoutōsIn the same way , λαμψάτωlampsatōshine τὸto{let} φῶςphōslight ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἔμπροσθενemprosthenbefore τῶνtōn- ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen , ὅπωςhopōsthat ἴδωσινidōsinthey may see ὑμῶνhymōnyour τὰta- καλὰkalagood ἔργαergadeeds καὶkaiand δοξάσωσινdoxasōsinglorify τὸνton- πατέραpateraFather ὑμῶνhymōnyour τὸνton- ἐνenin τοῖςtois- οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven .
17ΜὴMē{Do} not νομίσητεnomisētethink ὅτιhotithat ἦλθονēlthonI have come καταλῦσαιkatalysaito abolish τὸνtonthe νόμονnomonLaw ἢēor τοὺςtousthe προφήταςprophētasProphets . οὐκouk. . . ἦλθονēlthonI have not come καταλῦσαιkatalysaito abolish [them] , ἀλλὰallabut πληρῶσαιplērōsaito fulfill [them] .
18ἀμὴνamēntruly , γὰρgarFor λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou ἕωςheōsuntil ἂνan. . . παρέλθῃparelthēpass away , ὁho- οὐρανὸςouranosheaven καὶkaiand ἡhē- γῆgēearth ἰῶταiōtajot , ἓνhena single ἢēnot μίαmiaa κεραίαkeraiastroke of a pen , οὐounot μὴmē. . . παρέλθῃparelthēpass away , ἀπὸapofrom τοῦtouthe νόμουnomouLaw ἕωςheōsuntil ἂνan. . . πάνταpantaeverything γένηταιgenētaiis accomplished .
19ὋςHoswhoever ἐὰνeanvvv οὖνounSo then , λύσῃlysēbreaks μίανmianone τῶνtōnof the ἐντολῶνentolōncommandments τούτωνtoutōnof these τῶνtōn- ἐλαχίστωνelachistōnleast καὶkaiand διδάξῃdidaxēteaches οὕτωςhoutōsto do likewise τοὺςtous- ἀνθρώπουςanthrōpousothers ἐλάχιστοςelachistosleast κληθήσεταιklēthēsetaiwill be called ἐνenin τῇtēthe βασιλείᾳbasileiakingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven ; ὃςhoswhoever δ’d’but ἂνan. . . ποιήσῃpoiēsēpractices καὶkaiand διδάξῃdidaxēteaches [them] οὗτοςhoutos- μέγαςmegasgreat κληθήσεταιklēthēsetaiwill be called ἐνenin τῇtēthe βασιλείᾳbasileiakingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven .
20λέγωlegōI tell γὰρgarFor ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhotithat ἐὰνeanunless μὴmē. . . περισσεύσῃperisseusēexceeds ἡhē- δικαιοσύνηdikaiosynērighteousness ὑμῶνhymōnyour πλεῖονpleion. . . τῶνtōn[that] of the γραμματέωνgrammateōnscribes καὶkaiand ΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnPharisees , οὐou. . . μὴmē. . . εἰσέλθητεeiselthēteyou will never enter εἰςeis. . . τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τῶνtōnof οὐρανῶνouranōnheaven .
21ἨκούσατεĒkousateYou have heard ὅτιhotithat ἐρρέθηerrethēit was said τοῖςtoisto the ἀρχαίοιςarchaioisancients , ΟὐOu. . . ’ φονεύσειςphoneuseis‘ Do not murder ὃςhos‘ Anyone who δ’d’and ἂνan. . . φονεύσῃphoneusēmurders ἔνοχοςenochossubject ἔσταιestaiwill be τῇtēto κρίσειkriseijudgment .’
22ἐγὼegōI δὲdeBut λέγωlegōtell ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhotithat πᾶςpasanyone ὁhowho ὀργιζόμενοςorgizomenosis angry with τῷtō- ἀδελφῷadelphōbrother αὐτοῦautouhis εἰκῇeikiwithout cause ἔνοχοςenochossubject ἔσταιestaiwill be τῇtēto κρίσειkriseijudgment . ὃςhosanyone who δ’d’Again , ἂνan. . . εἴπῃeipēsays τῷtōto ἀδελφῷadelphōbrother , αὐτοῦautouhis ῬακάRhaka‘ Raca ,’ ἔνοχοςenochossubject ἔσταιestaiwill be τῷtōto the συνεδρίῳsynedriōSanhedrin . ὃςhosanyone who δ’d’But ἂνan. . . εἴπῃeipēsays , ΜωρέMōre‘ You fool ! ’ ἔνοχοςenochossubject ἔσταιestaiwill be εἰςeisto τὴνtēnthe γέεννανgeennanof hell . τοῦtou- πυρόςpyrosfire
23ἘὰνEanif οὖνounSo προσφέρῃςprospherēsyou are offering τὸto- δῶρόνdōrongift σουsouyour ἐπὶepiat τὸtothe θυσιαστήριονthysiastērionaltar κἀκεῖkakeiand there μνησθῇςmnēsthēsremember ὅτιhotithat ὁho- ἀδελφόςadelphosbrother σουsouyour ἔχειecheihas τιtisomething κατὰkataagainst σοῦsouyou ,
24ἄφεςaphesleave ἐκεῖekeithere τὸto- δῶρόνdōrongift σουsouyour ἔμπροσθενemprosthenbefore τοῦtouthe θυσιαστηρίουthysiastērioualtar . καὶkai- ὕπαγεhypagego [and] πρῶτονprōtonFirst διαλλάγηθιdiallagēthibe reconciled τῷtōto ἀδελφῷadelphōbrother ; σουsouyour καὶkai- τότεtotethen ἐλθὼνelthōncome [and] πρόσφερεprosphereoffer τὸto- δῶρόνdōrongift . σουsouyour
25ἴσθιIsthivvv εὐνοῶνeunoōnReconcile τῷtōwith ἀντιδίκῳantidikōadversary , σουsouyour ταχὺtachyquickly ἕωςheōswhile ὅτουhotou. . . εἶeiyou are still ἐνenon τῇtēthe ὁδῷhodōway [to court] . μετ’met’- αὐτοῦautou- μήποτέmepotethat at not time, lest ever σεse. . . παραδῷparadōmay hand you over ὁho- ἀντίδικοςantidikos[he] τῷtōto the κριτῇkritējudge , καὶkaiand ὁhothe κριτὴςkritēsjudge [may hand you over] σεse. . . παραδῷparadōmay hand you over τῷtōto the ὑπηρέτῃhypēretēofficer , καὶkaiand εἰςeisinto φυλακὴνphylakēnprison . βληθήσῃblēthēsēyou may be thrown
26ἀμὴνamēnTruly λέγωlegōI tell σοιsoiyou , οὐouvvv μὴmēvvv ἐξέλθῃςexelthēsyou will not get out ἐκεῖθενekeithen- ἕωςheōsuntil ἂνan. . . ἀποδῷςapodōsyou have paid τὸνtonthe ἔσχατονeschatonlast κοδράντηνkodrantēnpenny .
27ἨκούσατεĒkousateYou have heard ὅτιhotithat ἐρρέθηerrethēit was said , τοῖςtoisto the ἀρχαίοιςarchaioisancients , οὐou. . . μοιχεύσειςmoicheuseis‘ Do not commit adultery
28ἐγὼegōI δὲdeBut λέγωlegōtell ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhotithat πᾶςpasanyone ὁho- βλέπωνblepōnwho looks at γυναῖκαgynaikaa woman πρὸςprosto τὸto- ἐπιθυμῆσαιepithymēsailust after αὐτὴνautēnher ἤδηēdē{has} already ἐμοίχευσενemoicheusencommitted adultery with αὐτὴνautēnher ἐνenin τῇtē- καρδίᾳkardiaheart . αὐτοῦautouhis
29εἰeiIf δὲde- ὁho- ὀφθαλμόςophthalmoseye σουsouyour ὁho- δεξιὸςdexiosright σκανδαλίζειskandalizeicauses you to sin σεse. . . , ἔξελεexelegouge it out αὐτὸνauton. . . καὶkaiand βάλεbalethrow [it] ἀπὸapoaway σοῦsou. . . . συμφέρειsymphereiIt is better γάρgar- σοιsoifor you ἵναhinato ἀπόληταιapolētailose ἓνhenone τῶνtōnvvv μελῶνmelōnpart of your body σουsouvvv καὶkai[than for] μὴmē. . . ὅλονholonwhole τὸto- σῶμάsōmabody σουsouyour βληθῇblēthēto be thrown εἰςeisinto γέεννανgeennanhell .
30καὶkaiAnd εἰeiif ἡhē- δεξιάdexiaright σουsouyour χεὶρcheirhand σκανδαλίζειskandalizeicauses you to sin σεse. . . , ἔκκοψονekkopsoncut it off αὐτὴνautēn. . . καὶkaiand βάλεbalethrow [it] ἀπὸapoaway σοῦsou. . . . συμφέρειsymphereiIt is better γάρgar- σοιsoifor you ἵναhinato ἀπόληταιapolētailose ἓνhenone τῶνtōnvvv μελῶνmelōnpart of your body σουsouvvv καὶkai[than for] μὴmē. . . ὅλονholonwhole τὸto- σῶμάsōmabody σουsouyour βληθῇblēthēto be thrown εἰςeisinto γέεννανgeennanhell .

32ἐγὼegōI δὲdeBut λέγωlegōtell ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhotithat ὋςHos‘ Whoever ἂνan. . . ἀπολύσῃapolysēdivorces τὴνtēn- γυναῖκαgynaikawife αὐτοῦautouhis παρεκτὸςparektosexcept λόγουlogoufor πορνείαςporneiassexual immorality , ποιεῖpoieibrings αὐτὴνautēnupon her . μοιχᾶσθαι,moikhasthaiadultery καὶkaiAnd ὃςhoshe who ἐὰνean. . . ἀπολελυμένηνapolelymenēna divorced woman γαμήσῃgamēsēmarries μοιχᾶταιmoichataicommits adultery .
33ΠάλινPalinAgain , ἠκούσατεēkousateyou have heard ὅτιhotithat ἐρρέθηerrethēit was said τοῖςtoisto the ἀρχαίοιςarchaioisancients , ΟὐκOuk. . . , ἐπιορκήσειςepiorkēseis‘ Do not break your oath ἀποδώσειςapodōseisfulfill δὲdebut τῷtōto the ΚυρίῳKyriōLord . ’ τοὺςtous- ὅρκουςhorkousvows σουsouyour

39ἐγὼegōI δὲdeBut λέγωlegōtell ὑμῖνhyminyou μὴmēnot ἀντιστῆναιantistēnaito resist τῷtōan πονηρῷponērōevil [person] . ἀλλ’all’- ὅστιςhostis[If] someone σεseyou ῥαπίζειrhapizeislaps εἰςeison τὴνtēn- δεξιὰνdexianright σιαγόναsiagonacheek , στρέψονstrepsonturn αὐτῷautōto him καὶkaialso ; τὴνtēnthe ἄλληνallēnother
40καὶkaialso ; τῷtōif someone θέλοντίthelontiwants σοιsoiyou κριθῆναιkrithēnaito sue καὶkaiand τὸνton- χιτῶνάchitōnatunic , σουsouyour λαβεῖνlabeintake ἄφεςapheslet him have αὐτῷautō. . . καὶkaias well ; τὸto[your] ἱμάτιονhimationcloak
41καὶkaias well ; ὅστιςhostisif someone σεse. . . ἀγγαρεύσειangareuseiforces you to go μίλιονmilionmile , ἕνhenone ὕπαγεhypagego μετ’met’with αὐτοῦautouhim δύοdyotwo [miles] .
42τῷtōto the [one] αἰτοῦντίaitountiwho asks σεseyou , δίδουdidouGive καὶkaiand τὸνtonthe [one] θέλονταthelontawho wants ἀπὸapofrom σοῦsouyou . δανείσασθαιdaneisasthaito borrow μὴmē. . . ἀποστραφῇςapostraphēsdo not turn away from

44ἐγὼegōI δὲdeBut λέγωlegōtell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ἀγαπᾶτεagapatelove τοὺςtous- ἐχθροὺςechthrousenemies ὑμῶνhymōnyour εὐλογεῖτεeulogeitebless τοὺςtous- καταρωμένουςkatarōmenouscurse ὑμᾶςhymasyou , καλῶςkalōswell ποιεῖτεpoieiteare you doing τοῖςtoisto the μισοῦσινmisousinhate ὑμᾶςhymasyou , καὶkaiand προσεύχεσθεproseuchesthepray ὑπὲρhyperfor τῶνtōnthose who ἐπηρεαζόντωνepēreazontōnmistreat ὑμᾶςhymasyou , καὶkaiand διωκόντωνdiōkontōnpersecute ὑμᾶςhymasyou ,
45ὅπωςhopōsthat γένησθεgenēstheyou may be υἱοὶhuioisons τοῦtouof ΠατρὸςPatrosFather ὑμῶνhymōnyour τοῦtouof ἐνenin οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven . ὅτιhoti- τὸνton- ἥλιονhēlionsun {to rise} αὐτοῦautouHis ἀνατέλλειanatelleiHe causes ἐπὶepion πονηροὺςponērous[the] evil καὶkaiand ἀγαθοὺςagathous[the] good , καὶkaiand βρέχειbrecheisends rain ἐπὶepion δικαίουςdikaious[the] righteous καὶkaiand ἀδίκουςadikous[the] unrighteous .
46ἐὰνeanIf γὰρgar- ἀγαπήσητεagapēsēteyou love τοὺςtousthose ἀγαπῶνταςagapōntaswho love ὑμᾶςhymasyou , τίναtinawhat μισθὸνmisthonreward ἔχετεechetewill you get ? οὐχὶouchiDo not καὶkaieven οἱhoi- τελῶναιtelōnaitax collectors τὸtothe αὐτὸautosame ? ποιοῦσι;poiousido
47καὶkaiAnd ἐὰνeanif ἀσπάσησθεaspasēstheyou greet τοὺςtous- φίλουςphilousfriends ὑμῶνhymōnyour μόνονmonononly τίtiwhat περισσὸνperissonmore than others ? ποιεῖτεpoieiteare you doing οὐχὶouchiDo not καὶkaieven οἱhoi- τελῶναιtelōnaitax collectors οὕτωouto[this] ποιοῦσινpoiousindo
