5ἘξανέστησανExanestēsanstood up δέdeBut τινεςtinessome τῶνtōn- ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēsthe αἱρέσεωςhaireseōsparty τῶνtōnof the ΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnPharisees πεπιστευκότεςpepisteukotesbelievers λέγοντεςlegontes[and] declared ὅτιhoti- , ΔεῖDeimust περιτέμνεινperitemneinbe circumcised αὐτοὺςautous“ [The Gentiles] παραγγέλλεινparangelleinrequired τεteand τηρεῖνtēreinto obey τὸνtonthe νόμονnomonlaw ΜωϋσέωςMōuseōsof Moses . ”

7ΠολλῆςPollēsmuch δὲde- συζητήσεωςsuzeteseosdebate , γενομένηςgenomenēsAfter ἀναστὰςanastasgot up ΠέτροςPetrosPeter εἰπὲeipesay πρὸςprosto αὐτούςautousthem , ἌνδρεςAndresvvv ἀδελφοίadelphoi“ Brothers , ὑμεῖςhymeisyou ἐπίστασθεepistastheknow ὅτιhotithat ἀφ’aph’in ἡμερῶνhēmerōndays ἀρχαίωνarchaiōn[the] early ho- ΘεὸςTheosGod ἐνenamong ὑμῖνhyminyou ἐξελέξατοexelexatomade a choice διὰdiafrom τοῦtou- στόματόςstomatoslips μουmoumy ἀκοῦσαιakousaiwould hear τὰta[that] the ἔθνηethnēGentiles τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonmessage τοῦtouof the εὐαγγελίουeuangeliougospel καὶkaiand πιστεῦσαιpisteusaibelieve .
8καὶkaiAnd howho καρδιογνώστηςkardiognōstēsknows the heart , ΘεὸςTheosGod , ἐμαρτύρησενemartyrēsenshowed His approval αὐτοῖςautoisto them , δοὺςdousby giving αὐτοῖςautoisto them , τὸto- ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit τὸto- ἍγιονHagionHoly καθὼςkathōsas καὶkaijust ἡμῖνhēmin[He did] to us .
9καὶkai- οὐδὲνouden. . . διέκρινεdiekrineHe made no distinction μεταξὺmetaxybetween ἡμῶνhēmōnus τεte- καὶkaiand αὐτῶνautōnthem , τεte- πίστειpisteifaith . καθαρίσαςkatharisas[for] He cleansed τὰςtas- καρδίαςkardiashearts αὐτῶνautōntheir
10ΝῦνNynNow οὖνounthen , τίtiwhy πειράζετεpeirazetedo you test τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonGod ἐπιθεῖναιepitheinaiby placing ζυγὸνzygona yoke ἐπὶepion τὸνtonthe τράχηλονtrachēlonnecks τῶνtōnof the μαθητῶνmathētōndisciples ὃνhonthat οὔτεouteneither οἱhoi- πατέρεςpateresfathers ἡμῶνhēmōnour οὔτεoutenor ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe ἰσχύσαμενischysamenhave been able βαστάσαιbastasaito bear ?
11ἀλλὰallaOn the contrary , διὰdia[it is] through τῆςtēsthe χάριτοςcharitosgrace τοῦtouof ΚυρίουKyriou[the] Lord ἸησοῦIēsouJesus πιστεύομενpisteuomenwe believe σωθῆναιsōthēnai[that] we are saved , καθ’kath’vvv ὃνhonvvv τρόπονtroponjust as κἀκεῖνοιkakeinoithey [are] . ”
12Ἐσίγησεesigesefell silent δὲde- πᾶνpanwhole τὸtoThe πλῆθοςplēthosassembly καὶkai[as they] ἤκουονēkouonlistened to ΒαρνάβαBarnabaBarnabas καὶkaiand ΠαύλουPaulouPaul ἐξηγουμένωνexēgoumenōndescribing ὅσαhosa[the] ἐποίησενepoiēsenhad done ho- ΘεὸςTheosGod σημεῖαsēmeiasigns καὶkaiand τέραταteratawonders ἐνenamong τοῖςtoisthe ἔθνεσιethnesiGentiles δι’di’through αὐτῶνautōnthem .
13ΜετὰMetaWhen δὲde- τὸto- σιγῆσαιsigēsaihad finished speaking , αὐτοὺςautousthey ἀπεκρίθηapekrithēdeclared ἸάκωβοςIakōbosJames λέγωνlegōn- , ἌνδρεςAndres“ vvv ἀδελφοίadelphoiBrothers , ἀκούσατέakousatelisten to μουmoume !
14ΣυμεὼνSymeōnSimon ἐξηγήσατοexēgēsatohas told us καθὼςkathōshow πρῶτονprōtonfirst ho- ΘεὸςTheosGod ἐπεσκέψατοepeskepsatovisited [the Gentiles] λαβεῖνlabeinto take ἐξexfrom ἐθνῶνethnōn[them] λαὸνlaona people ἐπὶepito τὸto- ὀνόματιonomati[own] . αὐτοῦautouHis
15καὶkai- τούτῳtoutōwith this , συμφωνοῦσινsymphōnousinagree οἱhoiThe λόγοιlogoiwords τῶνtōnof the προφητῶνprophētōnprophets καθὼςkathōsas γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written :
16ΜετὰMeta‘ After ταῦταtauta[this] ἀναστρέψωanastrepsōI will return καὶkaiand ἀνοικοδομήσωanoikodomēsōrebuild τὴνtēn- σκηνὴνskēnēntent ΔαυὶδDauidof David . τὴνtēn- πεπτωκυῖανpeptōkuianthe fallen καὶkai- τὰta- κατεσκαμμένα*kateskammenaruins αὐτῆςautēsIts ἀνοικοδομήσωanoikodomēsōI will rebuild , καὶkaiand ἀνορθώσωanorthōsōI will restore it αὐτήνautēn. . . ,
17ὅπωςhopōsso that ἂνanvvv ἐκζητήσωσινekzētēsōsinmay seek οἱhoithe κατάλοιποιkataloipoiremnant τῶνtōn- ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnof men τῶνtōn- ΚύριονKyrionLord , καὶkaiand πάνταpantaall τὰtathe ἔθνηethnēGentiles ἐφ’eph’- οὓςhouswho ἐπικέκληταιepikeklētaiare called τὸto- ὄνομάonomaname μουmouby My ἐπ’ep’- αὐτούςautous- , λέγειlegeisays ΚύριοςKyrios[the] Lord ho- ποιῶνpoiōnwho does ταῦταtautathese things πάνταpantaall
18γνωστὰgnōsta[that] have been known ἀπ’ap’for αἰῶνοςaiōnosages .’ ἐστίestiI have τὸto- ΘεῷTheōGod . πάνταpantaall τὰtathe ἔργαergadeeds αὐτοῦautouHis
19ΔιὸDiotherefore , ἐγὼegō[It is] my κρίνωkrinōjudgment , μὴvvv παρενοχλεῖνparenochleinthat we should not cause trouble for τοῖςtois- ἀπὸapo- τῶνtōnthe ἐθνῶνethnōnGentiles ἐπιστρέφουσινepistrephousin[who] are turning ἐπὶepito τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonGod .
20ἀλλὰallaInstead , ἐπιστεῖλαιepisteilaiwe should write αὐτοῖςautois[ and tell] them τοῦtou- ἀπέχεσθαιapechesthaito abstain from ἀπὸapo- τῶνtōnthe ἀλισγημάτωνalisgēmatōnpolluted τῶνtōn- εἰδώλωνeidōlōnby idols , καὶkai[from] τῆςtēs- πορνείαςporneiassexual immorality , καὶkai[from] ‹τοῦ›touthe πνικτοῦpniktoumeat of strangled animals , καὶkaiand τοῦtoufrom αἵματοςhaimatosblood .
21ΜωϋσῆςMōusēsMoses γὰρgarFor ἐκekfrom γενεῶνgeneōntimes ἀρχαίωνarchaiōnancient κατὰkatain every πόλινpolincity τοὺςtous- κηρύσσονταςkēryssontasbeen proclaimed αὐτὸνauton- ἔχειecheihas ἐνenin ταῖςtaisthe συναγωγαῖςsynagōgaissynagogues κατὰkataon πᾶνpanevery σάββατονsabbatonSabbath . ” ἀναγινωσκόμενοςanaginōskomenos[and] is read
22ΤότεToteThen ἔδοξεedoxedecided τοῖςtois- ἀποστόλοιςapostoloisapostles καὶkaiand τοῖςtois- πρεσβυτέροιςpresbyteroiselders , σὺνsynwith ὅλῃholēwhole τῇthe ἐκκλησίᾳekklēsiachurch , ἐκλεξαμένουςeklexamenousto select ἄνδραςandrasmen ἐξexfrom among αὐτῶνautōnthem πέμψαιpempsaito send εἰςeisto ἈντιόχειανAntiocheianAntioch σὺνsynwith τῷ- ΠαύλῳPaulōPaul καὶkaiand ΒαρνάβᾳBarnabaBarnabas . ἸούδανIoudan[They chose] Judas τὸνton- ἐπικαλούμενονepikaloumenonis called ΒαρσαββᾶνBarsabbanBarsabbas καὶkaiand ΣιλᾶνSilanSilas , ἄνδραςandras. . . ἡγουμένουςhēgoumenous[two] leaders ἐνenamong τοῖςtoisthe ἀδελφοῖςadelphoisbrothers ,
23γράψαντεςgrapsantes[and sent them with] διὰdiavvv χειρὸςcheirosthis letter : αὐτῶνautōnvvv ΤάδεTade“ - ΟἱHoiThe ἀπόστολοιapostoloiapostles καὶkaiand οἱhoithe πρεσβύτεροιpresbyteroielders , καὶkaiand οἱhoithe ἀδελφοὶadelphoi[your] brothers , ΤοῖςToisTo the κατὰkatain τὴνtēn- ἈντιόχειανAntiocheianAntioch , καὶkai- ΣυρίανSyrianSyria , καὶkaiand ΚιλικίανKilikianCilicia : ἀδελφοῖςadelphoisbrothers τοῖςtois- ἐξexamong ἐθνῶνethnōn[the] Gentiles ΧαίρεινChaireinGreetings .
24ἘπειδὴEpeidēIt has come to our attention ἠκούσαμενēkousamen. . . ὅτιhotithat τινὲςtinessome ἐξexfrom ἡμῶνhēmōnus ‹ἐξελθόντες›exelthonteswent out ἐτάραξανetaraxan[and] unsettled ὑμᾶςhymasyou , λόγοιςlogoisby what [they] said . ἀνασκευάζοντεςanaskeuazontestroubling τὰςtas- ψυχὰςpsychasminds ὑμῶνhymōnyour λέγοντεςlegontes[and] declared περιτέμνεσθαιperitemnesthaito circumcise καὶkaiand τηρεῖνtēreinto obey τὸνtonthe νόμονnomonlaw οἷςhoisvvv οὐouvvv διεστειλάμεθαdiesteilamethawithout our authorization
25ἔδοξενedoxen[So] we all agreed ἡμῖνhēmin. . . γενομένοιςgenomenois. . . ὁμοθυμαδὸνhomothymadon. . . ἐκλεξαμένουςeklexamenousto select ἄνδραςandrasmen πέμψαιpempsaito send πρὸςprosto ὑμᾶςhymasyou σὺνsynalong with τοῖςtois- ἀγαπητοῖςagapētoisbeloved ἡμῶνhēmōnour ΒαρνάβᾳBarnabaBarnabas καὶkaiand ΠαύλῳPaulōPaul ,
26ἀνθρώποιςanthrōpoismen παραδεδωκόσιparadedōkosiwho have risked τὰςtas- ψυχὰςpsychaslives αὐτῶνautōntheir ὑπὲρhyperfor τοῦtouthe ὀνόματοςonomatosname τοῦtouthe ΚυρίουKyriouLord ἡμῶνhēmōnof our ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist .
27ἀπεστάλκαμενapestalkamenwe are sending οὖνounTherefore ἸούδανIoudanJudas καὶkaiand ΣιλᾶνSilanSilas καὶkai- αὐτοὺςautous- διὰdiavvv λόγουlogou[in person] ἀπαγγέλλονταςapangellontasto tell you τὰtathe αὐτάautasame things [we are writing] .
28ἜδοξενEdoxenIt seemed good γὰρgar- τῷto the ἉγίῳHagiōHoly ΠνεύματιPneumatiSpirit καὶkaiand ἡμῖνhēminto us μηδὲνmēdennot πλέονpleon[with anything] beyond ἐπιτίθεσθαιepitithesthaivvv ὑμῖνhyminyou βάροςbarosto burden πλὴνplēn. . . τῶνtōn- ἐπάναγκεςepanankesessential requirements : τούτωνtoutōnthese
29ἀπέχεσθαιapechesthai[You must] abstain εἰδωλοθύτωνeidōlothytōnfrom food sacrificed to idols , καὶkai- αἵματοςhaimatosfrom blood , καὶkai- πνικτοῦpniktoumeat of strangled animals , καὶkaiand πορνείαςporneiassexual immorality , ἐξexfrom among ὧνhōnthese things . διατηροῦντεςdiatērountesto avoid ἑαυτοὺςheautous. . . εὖeuwell πράξετεpraxeteYou will do ἜρρωσθεErrōstheFarewell .
30ΟἱHoi[the men] μὲνmen- οὖνounSo ἀπολυθέντεςapolythenteswere sent off ἦλθονēlthonthey came εἰςeisto ἈντιόχειανAntiocheianAntioch , καὶkai[where] συναγαγόντεςsynagagontesthey assembled τὸtothe πλῆθοςplēthoscongregation ἐπέδωκανepedōkan[and] delivered τὴνtēnthe ἐπιστολήνepistolēnletter .
31ἀναγνόντεςanagnontes[the people] read [it] , δὲde[When] ἐχάρησανecharēsanthey rejoiced ἐπὶepiat τῇ[its] παρακλήσειparaklēseiencouraging message .
32ἸούδαςIoudasJudas τεte- καὶkaiand ΣιλᾶςSilasSilas , καὶkai[who] αὐτοὶautoithemselves προφῆταιprophētaiprophets , ὄντεςonteswere διὰdiasaid much λόγουlogou. . . πολλοῦpollou. . . παρεκάλεσανparekalesanto encourage τοὺςtousthe ἀδελφοὺςadelphousbrothers . καὶkaiand ἐπεστήριξανepestērixanstrengthen
33ποιήσαντεςpoiēsantesAfter spending δὲde- χρόνονchrononsome time [there] , ἀπελύθησανapelythēsanthey were sent off μετ’met’in εἰρήνηςeirēnēspeace ἀπὸapoby τῶνtōnthe ἀδελφῶνadelphōnbrothers πρὸςprosto [return to] τοὺςtousthose who ἀποστόλουςapostolousapostles
34ἔδοξεedoxedecided δὲde- τὸto- ΣιλᾷSilaSilas . ἐπιμεῖναιepimeinaito spend αὐτοῦautouHis
35ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul δὲdeBut καὶkaiand ΒαρνάβαςBarnabasBarnabas διέτριβονdietribonremained ἐνenat ἈντιοχείᾳAntiocheiaAntioch , διδάσκοντεςdidaskontesteaching καὶkaiand εὐαγγελιζόμενοιeuangelizomenoipreaching μετὰmetaalong with καὶkai. . . ἑτέρωνheterōnothers , πολλῶνpollōnmany τὸνtonthe λόγονlogonword τοῦtouof the ΚυρίουKyriouLord .

38ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul δὲdeBut ἠξίουēxiouthought it best τὸνton[because] he ἀποστάνταapostantahad deserted ἀπ’ap’. . . αὐτῶνautōnthem ἀπὸapoin ΠαμφυλίαςPamphyliasPamphylia καὶkaiand μὴvvv συνελθόνταsynelthontahad not accompanied αὐτοῖςautoisthem εἰςeisin τὸtothe ἔργονergonwork . μὴvvv συμπαραλαβεῖνsymparalabeinto take τοῦτονtoutonhim ,
