4καὶkaiSo φωνήσαςphōnēsashe called αὐτὸνautonhim in εἶπενeipento ask αὐτῷautō- , ΤίTi‘ What [is] τοῦτοtoutothis ἀκούωakouōI hear περὶperiabout σοῦsouyou ? ἀπόδοςapodosTurn in τὸνtonan λόγονlogonaccount τῆςtēsof οἰκονομίαςoikonomiasmanagement , σουsouyour οὐou. . . γὰρgarfor δύνῃdynēyou cannot ἔτιetiany longer . ’ οἰκονομεῖνoikonomeinbe manager

15καθίσαςkathisas‘ Sit down ταχέωςtacheōsquickly ,
16γράψονgrapson[and] write
17πεντήκονταpentēkontafifty . ’
18ἜπειταEpeitaThen ἑτέρῳheterōanother , εἰπὲeipesay ΣὺSy{do} you δὲde‘ And πόσονposonhow much ὀφείλειςopheileisowe ? ’ Ho- δὲde- εἶπενeipenhe replied . ἙκατὸνHekaton‘ A hundred κόρουςkorous[measures] σίτουsitouof wheat , ’

20ΛέγειLegeihe told αὐτῷautōhim . ΔέξαιDexai‘ Take σουsouyour τῷthe γράμμαgrammabill , ’ ΚαὶKaiAnd γράψονgrapson[and] write ὀγδοήκονταogdoēkontaeighty , ’
21καὶkaiand ἐπῄνεσενepēnesencommended hoThe κύριοςkyriosmaster τὸνtonthe οἰκονόμονoikonomonmanager τῆςtēs- ἀδικίαςadikiasdishonest ὅτιhotibecause φρονίμωςphronimōsshrewdly . ἐποίησενepoiēsenhe had acted ὅτιhotibecause οἱhoithe υἱοὶhuioisons τοῦtou- αἰῶνοςaiōnosage τούτουtoutouof this φρονιμώτεροιphronimōteroimore shrewd ὑπὲρhyperthan [are] τοὺςtousthe υἱοὺςhuioussons τοῦtou- φωτὸςphōtosof light . εἰςeisin dealing with τὴνtēn- γενεὰνgeneankind τὴνtēn- ἑαυτῶνheautōntheir own εἰσι.eisiare
22κἀγὼkagōAnd I ὑμῖνhyminyou , λέγωlegōtell ποιήσατεpoiēsateto make ἑαυτοῖςheautoisfor yourselves , φίλουςphilousfriends ἐκekuse τοῦtou- μαμωνᾶmamōnawealth τῆςtēs- ἀδικίαςadikiasworldly ἵναhinaso that ὅτανhotanwhen ἐκλίπητε,eklipetewill not fail . δέξωνταιdexōntaithey will welcome ὑμᾶςhymasyou εἰςeisinto τὰςtas- αἰωνίουςaiōniouseternal σκηνάςskēnasdwellings .
23HoWhoever πιστὸςpistos[is] faithful ἐνenwith ἐλαχίστῳelachistōvery little καὶkaialso ἐνenwith πολλῷpollōmuch , πιστόςpistos{be} faithful ἐστι,estiis καὶkaialso howhoever ἐνenwith ἐλαχίστῳelachistōvery little ἄδικοςadikos[is] dishonest καὶkaiand ἐνenwith πολλῷpollōmuch , ἄδικοςadikos[is] dishonest ἐστινestinwill
24εἰeiif οὖνounSo ἐνenwith τῷ- ἀδίκῳadikōworldly μαμωνᾷmamōnawealth , πιστοὶpistoifaithful οὐκoukvvv ἐγένεσθεegenestheyou have not been τῷ- ἀληθινὸνalēthinontrue [riches] ? τίςtiswho ὑμῖνhyminyou πιστεύσειpisteuseiwill entrust
25καὶkaiAnd εἰeiif ἐνenwith τῷthe [belongings] ἀλλοτρίῳallotriōof another , πιστοὶpistoifaithful οὐκoukvvv ἐγένεσθεegenestheyou have not been τῷthe [belongings] ὑμέτερον*hymeteronof your own ? τίςtiswho ὑμῖνhyminyou δώσειdōseiwill give
26ΟὐδεὶςOudeisNo οἰκέτηςoiketēsservant δύναταιdynataican δυσὶdysitwo κυρίοιςkyrioismasters . δουλεύεινdouleueinserve ēEither γὰρgar- τὸνtonthe ἕναhenaone μισήσειmisēseihe will hate καὶkaiand τὸνtonthe ἕτερονheteronother , ἀγαπήσειagapēseilove ēor ἑνὸςhenos[the] one ἀνθέξεταιanthexetaihe will be devoted to καὶkaiand τοῦtouthe ἑτέρουheterouother . καταφρονήσειkataphronēseidespise οὐouvvv δύνασθεdynastheYou cannot ΘεῷTheō[both] God δουλεύεινdouleueinserve καὶkaiand μαμωνᾷmamōnamoney . ”
27ἬκουονĒkouonheard δὲde- ταῦταtauta[of this] πάνταpantaall οἱhoiThe ΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiPharisees , φιλάργυροιphilargyroilovers of money , ὑπάρχοντεςhyparchonteswho were καὶkaiand ἐξεμυκτήριζονexemyktērizonwere scoffing at αὐτόνauton[Jesus] .
28καὶkaiSo εἶπενeipenHe said αὐτοῖςautoisto them , ὙμεῖςHymeis“ You ἐστεesteare οἱhoithe [ones who] δικαιοῦντεςdikaiountesjustify ἑαυτοὺςheautous[yourselves] ἐνώπιονenōpionbefore τῶνtōn- ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen , ho- δὲdebut ΘεὸςTheosGod γινώσκειginōskeiknows τὰςtas- καρδίαςkardiashearts . ὑμῶνhymōnyour ὅτιhotiFor τὸtowhat ἐνenamong ἀνθρώποιςanthrōpoismen ὑψηλὸνhypsēlon[is] prized βδέλυγμαbdelygma[is] detestable ἐνώπιονenōpionbefore τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod .
29HoThe νόμοςnomosLaw καὶkaiand οἱhoithe προφῆταιprophētaiProphets [were proclaimed] ἕωςheōsuntil ἸωάννουIōannouJohn . ἀπὸapoSince τότεtotethat time , the {gospel} βασιλείαbasileiaof the kingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God εὐαγγελίζεταιeuangelizetaiis being preached , καὶkaiand πᾶςpaseveryone εἰςeisinto αὐτὴνautēnit . βιάζεταιbiazetaiis forcing his way
30εὐκοπώτερονeukopōteroneasier for δέdeBut ἐστιestiis τὸνton- οὐρανὸνouranonheaven καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- γῆνgēnearth παρελθεῖνpareltheinto pass away ēthan for τοῦtouof the νόμουnomouLaw . μίανmiana single κεραίανkeraianstroke of a pen πεσεῖνpeseinto drop out
31ΠᾶςPasAnyone howho ἀπολύωνapolyōndivorces τὴνtēn- γυναῖκαgynaikawife αὐτοῦautouhis καὶkaiand γαμῶνgamōnmarries ἑτέρανheterananother [woman] μοιχεύειmoicheueicommits adultery , καὶkaiand ΠᾶςPasAnyone howho ἀπολελυμένηνapolelymenēna divorced woman ἀπὸapo. . . ἀνδρὸςandros. . . γαμῶνgamōnmarries μοιχεύειmoicheueicommits adultery ,

35πτωχὸςptōchosbeggar δέdeAnd τιςtisa ἦνēnthere was ὀνόματιonomatinamed ΛάζαροςLazarosLazarus ὡςhōs. . . ἐβέβλητοebeblētolay πρὸςprosat τὸνton- πυλῶναpylōnagate , αὐτοῦautouhis ἡλκωμένοςelkomenoscovered with sores
36καὶkaiand ἐπιθυμῶνepithymōnlonging χορτασθῆναιchortasthēnaito be fed ἀπὸapowith τῶνtōnthe ψιχίωνpsikhioncrumbs that fell τῶνtōnthe πιπτόντωνpiptontōncrumbs that fell ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēsthe τραπέζηςtrapezēstable . τοῦtouvvv πλουσίουplousiourich man’s ἀλλὰalla- καὶkaiEven οἱhoithe κύνεςkynesdogs ἐρχόμενοιerchomenoicame ἐπέλειχονepeleichon[and] licked τὰta- ἕλκηhelkēsores . αὐτοῦautouhis

38καὶkai- ἐνenIn τῷ- ᾅδῃhadēHades , ἐπάραςeparashe looked up τοὺςtous. . . ὀφθαλμοὺςophthalmous. . . αὐτοῦautou. . . ὑπάρχωνhyparchōnwhere he was ἐνenin βασάνοιςbasanoistorment , ὁρᾷhora[and] saw ἈβραὰμAbraamAbraham ἀπὸapofrom μακρόθενmakrothenafar , καὶkaiwith ΛάζαρονLazaronLazarus ἐνenby τοῖςtois- κόλποιςkolpoisside . αὐτοῦautouhis
39ΚαὶKaiSo αὐτὸςautoshe φωνήσαςphōnēsascried out εἰπὲeipesay ΠάτερPater‘ Father ἈβραάμAbraamAbraham , ἐλέησόνeleēsonhave mercy on μεmeme καὶkaiand πέμψονpempsonsend ΛάζαρονLazaronLazarus ἵναhinato βάψῃbapsēdip τὸtothe ἄκρονakrontip τοῦtouof δακτύλουdaktyloufinger αὐτοῦautouhis ὕδατοςhydatosin water καὶkaiand καταψύξῃkatapsyxēcool τὴνtēn- γλῶσσάνglōssantongue . μουmoumy ὅτιhotiFor ὀδυνῶμαιodynōmaiI am in agony ἐνenin τῇ- φλογὶphlogifire . ’ ταύτῃtautēthis
40εἰπὲeipesay δὲdeBut ἈβραάμAbraamAbraham ΤέκνονTeknon‘ Child , μνήσθητιmnēsthētiremember ὅτιhotithat ἀπέλαβεςapelabesyou received σὺsyyou τὰta- ἀγαθάagathagood σουsouyour ἐνenduring τῇ- ζωῇzōēlifetime σουsouyour καὶkai[while] ΛάζαροςLazarosLazarus ὁμοίωςhomoiōs[received] τὰta- κακάkakabad [things] . νῦνnynnow δὲdeBut ὧδεhōdehere , παρακαλεῖταιparakaleitaihe is comforted σὺsyyou δὲdewhile ὀδυνᾶσαιodynasaiare in agony .
41καὶkaiAnd ἐπὶepiat πᾶσιpasiall τούτοιςtoutoisthis , μεταξὺmetaxybetween ἡμῶνhēmōnus καὶkaiand ὑμῶνhymōnyou , χάσμαchasmachasm μέγαmegaa great ἐστήρικταιestēriktaihas been fixed ὅπωςhopōsso that [even] οἱhoithose who θέλοντεςthelonteswish διαβῆναιdiabēnaicross ἔνθενenthenfrom here πρὸςprosto ὑμᾶςhymasyou , μὴvvv δύνωνταιdynōntaicannot μηδὲmēdenor οἱhoithose who ἐκεῖθενekeithenfrom there πρὸςprosto ἡμᾶςhēmasus . ’ διαπερῶσινdiaperōsincan [anyone] cross
42εἰπὲeipesay δέde- ἘρωτῶErōtōI beg οὖνoun‘ Then σεseyou , πάτερpaterfather , ’ ἵναhina- πέμψῃςpempsēs‘ send αὐτὸνauton[Lazarus] εἰςeisto τὸνton- οἶκονoikonhouse , τοῦtou- πατρόςpatrosfather’s μουmoumy
43ἔχωechōI have γὰρgarfor πέντεpentefive ἀδελφούςadelphousbrothers . ὅπωςhopōs- διαμαρτύρηταιdiamartyrētaiLet him warn αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ἵναhinaso that μὴvvv καὶkaivvv αὐτοὶautoithey ἔλθωσινelthōsinwill not also end up εἰςeisin τὸνton- τόπονtoponplace τοῦτονtoutonthis τῆςtēs- βασάνουbasanouof torment . ’
44ΛέγειLegeireplied ,
45αὐτῷautōto him ,
46ἈβραάμAbraamAbraham , ’
47ἜχουσιEchousi‘ They have ΜωϋσέαMōuseaMoses καὶkaiand τοὺςtousthe προφήταςprophētasprophets ; ἀκουσάτωσανakousatōsanlet [your brothers] listen to αὐτῶνautōnthem . ’
48Ho- δὲde- εἶπενeipenhe said , ΟὐχίOuchi‘ No , πάτερpaterfather ἈβραάμAbraamAbraham , ’ ἀλλ’all’‘ but ἐάνeanif τιςtissomeone ἀπὸapofrom νεκρῶνnekrōn[the] dead , πορευθῇporeuthēis sent πρὸςprosto αὐτοὺςautousthem μετανοήσουσινmetanoēsousinthey will repent . ’
49εἰπὲeipesay δὲdeThen αὐτῷautōto him , ΕἰEi‘ If ΜωϋσέωςMōuseōsMoses καὶkaiand τῶνtōnthe προφητῶνprophētōnprophets , οὐκoukvvv ἀκούουσινakouousinthey do not listen to ΟὐδὲOude“ vvv ἐάνeanif τιςtissomeone ἐκekfrom νεκρῶνnekrōn[the] dead . ’” ἀναστῇanastērises πεισθήσονταιpeisthēsontaithey will not be persuaded even
