1ΚαὶKaiThen ἤρξατοērxato[Jesus] began αὐτοῖςautoisto them ἐνenin παραβολαῖςparabolaisparables : λέγεινlegeinsay ἈμπελῶναAmpelōnaa vineyard . ἐφύτευσενephyteusenplanted ἄνθρωποςanthrōpos“ A man καὶkai- περιέθηκεperiethekeHe put φραγμὸνphragmona wall {around it} , καὶkai- ὤρυξενōryxendug ὑπολήνιονhypolēniona wine vat , καὶkaiand ᾠκοδόμησεokodomesehas built πύργονpyrgona watchtower . καὶkaiThen ἐξέδετοexedetohe rented it out αὐτὸνauton. . . γεωργοῖςgeōrgoisto [some] tenants καὶkaiand ἀπεδήμησε.apedemese[and] journeyed
2καὶkaiand ἀπέστειλεapesteileHe sent them out πρὸςprosto τοὺςtousthe γεωργοὺςgeōrgoustenants τῷ- καιρῷkairōAt harvest time , δοῦλονdoulona servant ἵναhinato παρὰpara- τῶνtōn- γεωργῶνgeōrgōn- λάβῃlabēcollect ἀπὸapo[his share] of τοῦtouof the καρποῦkarpoufruit . τοῦtouof the ἀμπελῶνοςampelōnosvineyard .
3καὶkaiBut λαβόντεςlabontesthey seized αὐτὸνauton[the servant] , ἔδειρανedeiranbeat [him] , καὶkaiand ἀπέστειλανapesteilansent [him] away κενόνkenonempty-handed .
4ΚαὶKaiThen πάλινpalin- ἀπέστειλεapesteileHe sent them out πρὸςpros- αὐτοὺςautousthem ἄλλονallonanother δοῦλονdoulonservant , κἀκεῖνονkakeinonand λιθοβολήσαντεςlithobolesantesstoned ἐκεφαλαίωσανekephalaiosanthey struck {him} over the head καὶkaiand ἀπέστειλανapesteilansent [him] away ἠτιμωμένον.etimomenontreated [him] shamefully .
5καὶkaiand πάλινpalin- ἄλλονallonanother ἀπέστειλε·apesteileHe sent them out κἀκεῖνονkakeinonand ἀπέκτεινανapekteinanthey killed . καὶkai[He sent] πολλοὺςpollousmany μὲνmen- ἄλλουςallousothers ; οὓςhoussome μὲνmen- δέροντεςderontesthey beat οὓςhoussome δὲdeand ἀποκτέννοντεςapoktennontesthey killed .
6ἜτιEtivvv [οὖν]ounthen ἕναhenaone υἱὸνhuionson , ἔχωνechōnhas ἀγαπητόνagapētonbeloved αὐτοῦautouvvv ἀπέστειλεapesteileHe sent them out καὶkaibut αὐτὸνautonHim ἔσχατονeschatonlast πρὸςprosto αὐτοὺςautousthem . λέγωνlegōnhe said ὅτιhoti- . ἘντραπήσονταιEntrapēsontai‘ They will respect τὸνton- υἱόνhuionson , ’ μουmoumy
7ἘκεῖνοιEkeinoi[the] δὲdeBut οἱhoi- γεωργοὶgeōrgoitenants θεασάμενοιtheasamenoiwho had seen αὐτόνautonhim , ἐρχόμενονerchomenonon his way in πρὸςprosto ἑαυτοὺςheautousone another εἰπὼνeipōnHe said ὅτιhoti- , ΟὗτόςHoutos‘ This ἐστινestinis hothe κληρονόμοςklēronomosheir . δεῦτεdeuteCome , ἀποκτείνωμενapokteinōmenlet us kill αὐτόνautonhim , καὶkaiand ἡμῶνhēmōnours . ’ ἔσταιestaiwill be the κληρονομίαklēronomiainheritance
8καὶkaiand λαβόντεςlabontesthey seized [the son] , ἀπέκτεινανapekteinankilled αὐτόνautonhim , καὶkaiand ἐξέβαλονexebalonthrew αὐτὸνautonhim ἔξωexōout τοῦtouof the ἀμπελῶνοςampelōnosvineyard .
9ΤίTiWhat [οὖν]ounthen ποιήσειpoiēseido ? ho{will} the κύριοςkyriosowner τοῦtouof the ἀμπελῶνοςampelōnosvineyard ἐλεύσεταιeleusetaiHe will come καὶkaiand ἀπολέσειapoleseikill τοὺςtous[those] γεωργούςgeōrgoustenants , τούτουςtoutousthese things , καὶkaiand δώσειdōseiwill give τὸνtonthe ἀμπελῶναampelōnavineyard ἄλλοιςalloisto others .
10οὐδὲoudevvv τὴνtēn- γραφὴνgraphēnScripture : ταύτηνtautēnthis ἀνέγνωτεanegnōteHave you never read ΛίθονLithon‘ [The] stone ὃνhon- ἀπεδοκίμασανapedokimasanrejected οἱhoithe οἰκοδομοῦντεςoikodomountesbuilders ΟὗτοςHoutos- ἐγενήθηegenēthēhas become εἰςeisthe κεφαλὴνkephalēnvvv γωνίαςgōniascornerstone .
11ΠαρὰParafrom ΚυρίουKyriou[the] Lord , ἐγένετοegenetois αὕτηhautēThis ΚαὶKaiand ἔστιestiis θαυμαστὴthaumastēmarvelous ἐνenin ὀφθαλμοῖςophthalmoiseyes ’ ?” ἡμῶνhēmōnour
12ΚαὶKaiAt this , ἐζήτουνezētoun[the leaders] sought αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] , κρατῆσαιkratēsaito arrest ΚαὶKaiAt this , ἐφοβήθησανephobēthēsanfearing τὸνtonthe ὄχλονochloncrowd , ἔγνωσανegnōsanthey knew γὰρgarfor ὅτιhotithat πρὸςprosagainst αὐτοὺςautousthem . τὴνtēn[this] παραβολὴνparabolēnparable εἰπὲeipesay καὶkaiBut ἀφέντεςaphentesthey left αὐτὸνautonHim ἀπῆλθονapēlthon[and] went away .
13ΚαὶKaiLater , ἀποστέλλουσιapostellousithey sent πρὸςpros- αὐτόνauton- τιναςtinassome τῶνtōnof the ΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnPharisees καὶkaiand τῶνtōn- ἩρῳδιανῶνHērōdianōnHerodians ἵναhinato αὐτὸνauton[Jesus] ἀγρεύσωσιagreusosicatch λόγῳlogōin [His] words .
14οἱhoithe δὲdeBut ἐλθόντεςelthontesvvv λέγουσινlegousinthey said αὐτῷautō. . . , ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskale“ Teacher , ” οἴδαμενoidamen“ we know ὅτιhotithat ἀληθὴςalēthēshonest εἶeiYou are καὶkaiand οὐouvvv μέλειmeleiseek favor σοιsoi- περὶperifrom οὐδενόςoudenosno one . οὐouvvv γὰρgarIndeed , βλέπειςblepeisYou are impartial εἰςeis. . . πρόσωπονprosōpon. . . ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōn. . . ἀλλ’all’[and] ἐπ’ep’in accordance with ἀληθείαςalētheias[the] truth . τὴνtēnthe ὁδὸνhodonway τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God διδάσκειςdidaskeisteach εἰπὼνeipōnHe said [οὖν]ounthen ἡμῖνhēminfor us ἔξεστιexestiis unlawful δοῦναιdounaito pay κῆνσονkēnsontaxes ΚαίσαριKaisarito Caesar ēor οὔounot ? δῶμενdōmenShould we pay [them] ēor μὴnot δῶμενdōmen- ? ”
15Ho- δὲdeBut εἰδὼςeidōs[Jesus] saw through αὐτῶνautōntheir τὴνtēn- ὑπόκρισινhypokrisinhypocrisy εἶπενeipen[and] said αὐτοῖςautois- , ΤίTi“ Why μεmeMe ? πειράζετεpeirazeteare you testing φέρετέphereteBring μοιmoiMe δηνάριονdēnariona denarius ἵναhinato ἴδωidōinspect . ”
16οἱhoi- δὲde[So] ἤνεγκανēnenkanthey brought [it] , καὶkaiand λέγειlegeiHe asked αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ΤίνοςTinos“ Whose - εἰκὼνeikōnimage αὕτηhautē[is] this ? καὶkaiAnd [whose] ἐπιγραφήepigraphēinscription ? ” ΟἱHoi- δὲde- εἰπὼνeipōnHe said ΚαίσαροςKaisaros“ Caesar’s , ”
17καὶkaiAnd ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheis- ho- ἸησοῦςIēsous[He] εἶπενeipendeclared : αὐτοῖςautois- , ἀπόδοτεapodote“ Give ΤὰTawhat is ΚαίσαροςKaisarosCaesar’s , ΚαίσαριKaisarito Caesar καὶkaiand ΤὰTawhat is τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod’s . ” τῷ- ΘεῷTheōto God καὶkaiand ἐξεθαύμασανexethaumasanthey marveled ἐπ’ep’at αὐτῷautōHim .
18ΚαὶKaiThen ἔρχονταιerchontaicame ΣαδδουκαῖοιSaddoukaioithe Sadducees , πρὸςprosto αὐτόνauton[Jesus] οἵτινεςhoitineswho λέγουσινlegousinsay ἀνάστασινanastasinresurrection , μὴno εἶναιeinaithere is ΚαὶKaiThen ἐπηρώτωνepērōtōnquestioned αὐτὸνautonHim λέγοντεςlegontes- :
19ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskale“ Teacher , ΜωϋσῆςMōusēsMoses ἔγραψενegrapsenwrote ἡμῖνhēminfor us ὅτιhotithat ἐάνeanif τινοςtinosa man’s ἀδελφὸςadelphosbrother ἀποθάνῃapothanēdies καὶkaiand καταλίπῃkatalipēleaves γυναῖκαgynaikaa wife καὶkaibut τέκναtekna[their] children μὴno ἀφῇaphē- ἵναhina- λάβῃlabēis to marry hovvv ἀδελφὸςadelphos[the man] αὐτοῦautouvvv τὴνtēn[his brother’s] γυναῖκαgynaikawidow αὐτοῦautou- καὶkaiand ἐξαναστήσῃexanastēsēraise up σπέρμαspermaoffspring τῷfor ἀδελφῷadelphō[him] . αὐτοῦautou-
20ἑπτὰheptaseven [οὖν]ounthen ἀδελφοὶadelphoibrothers . ἦσανēsan[Now] there were καὶkai- hoThe πρῶτοςprōtosfirst [one] ἔλαβεelabeswept over γυναῖκαgynaika. . . καὶkaiand ἀποθνῄσκωνapothnēskōndied , οὐκoukno ἀφῆκεaphekeHe did not allow σπέρμαspermachildren .
21καὶkaiThen hothe δεύτεροςdeuterossecond [one] ἔλαβενelabenmarried αὐτήνautēn[the widow] , καὶkai[but] he also died ἀπέθανεapethaneshe is not dead καὶkai[but] he also died οὐδὲoudevvv αὐτὸςautoshimself οὐκoukno ἀφῆκεaphekeHe did not allow σπέρμαsperma[any] children . καὶkaiAnd hothe τρίτοςtritosthird [did] ὡσαύτωςhōsautōslikewise .
22καὶkaiIn this way , ἔλαβονelabonreceived αὐτήνautēn[the widow] , οἱhoiof the ἑπτὰheptaseven καὶkaiAnd οὐκouknone ἀφῆκανaphēkanleft σπέρμαsperma[any] children . ἐσχάτηeschatēlast πάντωνpantōnof all , ἀπέθανεapethaneshe is not dead καὶkaiAnd the γυνὴgynēwoman
23ἐνenIn τῇthe [οὖν]ounthen ἀναστάσειanastaseiresurrection , ὅτανhotan[then] ἀναστῶσι,anastosi. . . , τίνοςtinoswhose αὐτῶνautōn. . . ἔσταιestaiwill she be ? γυνήgynēwife οἱhoi[all] γὰρgarFor ἑπτὰheptaseven ἔσχονeschonwere αὐτὴνautēnto her . ” γυναῖκαgynaikamarried
24καὶkaiAnd ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheis- ho- ἸησοῦςIēsous[He] εἶπενeipendeclared : αὐτοῖςautois- , ΟὐOunot διὰdiabecause τοῦτοtouto“ vvv πλανᾶσθεplanastheAren’t you mistaken μὴvvv εἰδότεςeidotesyou do not know τὰςtasthe γραφὰςgraphasScriptures μηδὲmēde[or] τὴνtēnthe δύναμινdynaminpower τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ?
25ὅτανhotanWhen γὰρgar- ἐκek. . . νεκρῶνnekrōn. . . , ἀναστῶσινanastōsinthe dead rise οὔτεoutevvv γαμοῦσινgamousinthey will neither marry οὔτεoutenor γαμίζονταιgamizontaibe given in marriage . ἀλλ’all’Instead , εἰσὶνeisinthey will be ὡςhōslike ἄγγελοιangeloi[the] angels οἱhoi[all] ἐνenIn τοῖςtois- οὐρανοῖςouranoisheaven .
26ΠερὶPericoncerning δὲdeBut τῶνtōnthe νεκρῶνnekrōndead ὅτιhoti- ἐγείρονταιegeirontairising , οὐκoukvvv ἀνέγνωτεanegnōtehave you not read ἐνenin τῇthe βίβλῳbiblōBook ΜωϋσέωςMōuseōsof Moses , ἐπὶepiabout τοῦtouthe ΒάτουBatou[burning] bush πῶςpōshow εἶπενeipentold αὐτῷautōhim hothe ΘεὸςTheosGod λέγωνlegōn- , ἘγὼEgō‘ I [am] hothe ΘεὸςTheosGod ἈβραὰμAbraamof Abraham , καὶkai- ‹ὁ›hothe ΘεὸςTheosGod ἸσαὰκIsaakof Isaac , καὶkaiand ‹ὁ›hothe ΘεὸςTheosGod ἸακώβIakōbof Jacob ’ ?
27οὐκouknot ἔστινestinHe is ‹ὁ›hothe ΘεὸςTheosGod νεκρῶνnekrōnof [the] dead , ἀλλὰallabut ζώντωνzōntōnof [the] living . ὑμεῖςhymeis“ You [οὖν]ounthen πολὺpolyvvv πλανᾶσθεplanastheYou are badly mistaken ! ”
28ΚαὶKaiNow προσελθὼνproselthōnhad come up εἷςheisone τῶνtōnof the γραμματέωνgrammateōnscribes ἀκούσαςakousasand heard αὐτῶνautōntheir συζητούντωνsyzētountōndebate . ἰδὼν*idōnNoticing ὅτιhoti- καλῶςkalōshow well αὐτοῖςautoisthem , ἀπεκρίθηapekrithē[Jesus] had answered ἐπηρώτησενepērōtēsenhe asked αὐτόνautonHim , ΠοίαPoia“ Which ἐστὶestiis πρώτηprōtē[the] most important πάντωνpantōnof all ? ” ἐντολὴentolēcommandment
29ho- δὲdeBut ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἀπεκρίθηapekrithē[Jesus] had answered αὐτῷautōhim ὅτιhoti- πρώτηprōtē[the] most important πάντωνpantōnof all ? ” ἐντολὴentolēcommandment ἌκουεAkoue‘ Hear ἸσραήλIsraēlO Israel , ΚύριοςKyrios[the] Lord ho- ΘεὸςTheosGod , ἡμῶνhēmōnour ΚύριοςKyrios[the] Lord εἷςheisOne . ἐστι·estiis
30καὶkai- ἀγαπήσειςagapēseisLove ΚύριονKyrion[the] Lord τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonGod σουsouyour ἐξexwith ὅληςholēsall τῆςtēs- καρδίαςkardiasheart σουsouyour καὶkaiand ἐξexwith ὅληςholēsall τῆςtēs- ψυχῆςpsychēssoul σουsouyour καὶkaiand ἐξexwith ὅληςholēsall τῆςtēs- διανοίαςdianoiasmind σουsouyour καὶkaiand ἐξexwith ὅληςholēsall τῆςtēs- ἰσχύοςischyosstrength .’ σουsouyour αὕτηhautē[is] this : ΠρώτηPrōtēmost important : ἐντολὴentolēcommandment
31ΚαὶKaiNow δευτέραdeutera[The] second ὁμοίαhomoialike ? αὕτηhautē[is] this : ἈγαπήσειςAgapēseis‘ Love τὸνton- πλησίονplēsionneighbor σουsouyour ὡςhōsas σεαυτόνseautonyourself .’ μείζωνmeizōngreater τούτωνtoutōnthan these . ” ἄλληallēother ἐντολὴentolēcommandment οὐκoukNo ἔστι.estiis
32ΚαὶKai- εἶπενeipenreplied αὐτῷautō. . . . hothe γραμματεύςgrammateusscribe ΚαλῶςKalōs“ Right , ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskaleTeacher , ” ἐπ’ep’vvv ἀληθείαςalētheiascorrectly εἶπαςeipasYou have spoken ὅτιhotithat εἷςheisOne ἐστιestiis καὶkaiand οὐκoukno ἔστινestinthere is ἄλλοςallosother πλὴνplēnbut αὐτοῦautouHim ,
33καὶkaiand τὸto- ἀγαπᾶνagapanto love αὐτὸνautonHim ἐξexwith ὅληςholēsall τῆςtēs[your] καρδίαςkardiasheart καὶkaiand ἐξexwith ὅληςholēsall τῆςtēs[your] συνέσεωςsyneseōsunderstanding καὶkaiand ἐξexwith ὅληςholēsall τῆςtēs[your] ψυχῆςpsychēssoul καὶkaiand ἐξexwith ὅληςholēsall τῆςtēs- ἰσχύοςischyosstrength .’ καὶkaiand τὸto- ἀγαπᾶνagapanto love τὸνton[your] πλησίονplēsionneighbor ὡςhōsas ἑαυτὸνheautonyourself , πλεῖονpleionmore ἐστιestiis πάντωνpantōnthan all τῶνtōnthe ὁλοκαυτωμάτωνholokautōmatōnburnt offerings καὶkaiand θυσιῶνthysiōnsacrifices . ”
34ΚαὶKaiWhen ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ἰδὼνidōnsaw ὅτιhotithat νουνεχῶςnounechōswisely , ἀπεκρίθηapekrithē[the man] had answered εἶπενeipenHe said αὐτῷautō. . . , ΟὐOunot μακρὰνmakranfar εἶei“ You are ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēsthe βασιλείαςbasileiaskingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God . ” καὶkaiAnd οὐδεὶςoudeisno one οὐκέτιouketi[any] further . ἐτόλμαetolmadared αὐτὸνautonHim ἐπερωτῆσαιeperōtēsaito question
35ΚαὶKaiWhile ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheis- ho- ἸησοῦςIēsous[He] ἔλεγεelege[Jesus] declared διδάσκωνdidaskōn[Jesus] was teaching ἐνenin τῷthe ἱερῷhierōtemple [courts] , ΠῶςPōs“ How λέγουσινlegousinsay οἱhoi{can} the γραμματεῖςgrammateisscribes ὅτιhotithat hothe ΧριστὸςChristosChrist υἱὸςhuios[the] Son ΔαυίδDauidof David ? ἐστι;estiis
36αὐτὸςautoshimself γὰρgarFor ΔαυὶδDauidDavid ΕἶπενEipensaid ἐνenSpeaking by ΠνεύματιPneumatiSpirit , ἉγίῳHagiōHoly λέγειlegeicalls hothe ΚύριοςKyrios‘ [The] Lord τῷto ΚυρίῳKyriōLord , μουmoumy ΚάθουKathou“ Sit ἐκekat δεξιῶνdexiōnright hand μουmouMy ἝωςHeōsuntil ἂνan. . . θῶthōI put τοὺςtous- ἐχθρούςechthrousenemies σουsouYour ὙποπόδιονHypopodiona footstool τῶνtōn. . . ποδῶνpodōnfeet .”’ σουsouYour
37ΑὐτὸςAutoshimself [οὖν]ounthen ΔαυίδDauidof David ? λέγειlegeicalls αὐτὸνautonHim ΚύριονKyrion‘ Lord . ’ καὶkaiSo πόθενpothenhow υἱόςhuiosson ? ” αὐτοῦautou[David’s] ἐστι;estiis ΚαὶKaiAnd hothe πολὺςpolyslarge ὄχλοςochloscrowd ἤκουενēkouenlistened αὐτοῦautouto Him ἡδέωςhēdeōswith delight .
38ΚαὶKaivvv ἔλεγενelegen[Jesus] also said , αὐτοῖςautois- , ἐνenat τῇ- διδαχῇdidachēteaching αὐτοῦautouHis ΒλέπετεBlepete“ Watch out ἀπὸapofor τῶνtōnthe γραμματέωνgrammateōnscribes . τῶνtōn- θελόντωνthelontōnThey like ἐνenin στολαῖςstolaislong robes , περιπατεῖνperipateinto walk around καὶkai- ἀσπασμοὺςaspasmous[to receive] greetings ἐνenin ταῖςtaisthe ἀγοραῖςagoraismarketplaces ,
39καὶkaiand [to have] πρωτοκαθεδρίαςprōtokathedriasthe chief seats ἐνenin ταῖςtaisthe συναγωγαῖςsynagōgaissynagogues καὶkaiand πρωτοκλισίαςprōtoklisias[the] places of honor ἐνenat τοῖςtois- δείπνοιςdeipnoisbanquets .
40οἱhoiThey κατεσθίοντεςkatesthiontesdefraud τὰςtas[of their] οἰκίαςoikiashouses , τῶνtōn- χηρῶνchērōnwidows καὶkaiand προφάσειprophaseifor a show μακρὰmakra. . . προσευχόμενοιproseuchomenoimake lengthy prayers . οὗτοιhoutoiThese [men] λήψονταιlepsontaiwill receive περισσότερονperissoterongreater κρίμαkrimacondemnation . ”
41ΚαὶKaiAs καθίσαςkathisas[Jesus] was sitting hothe ἸησοῦςIēsous[He] κατέναντιkatenantiopposite τοῦtouthe γαζοφυλακίουgazophylakioutreasury , ἐθεώρειetheōreiHe watched πῶςpōs- hothe ὄχλοςochloscrowd βάλλειballeiputting χαλκὸνchalkonmoney εἰςeisinto τὸto- γαζοφυλάκιονgazophylakion[it] .
42καὶkaiAnd πολλοὶpolloimany πλούσιοιplousioirich [people] ἔβαλλονeballonput in πολλάpollalarge amounts . καὶkaiThen ἐλθοῦσαelthousacame μίαmiaone χήραchērawidow πτωχὴptōchēpoor ἔβαλεebaletossed λεπτὰleptasmall copper coins , δύοdyotwo howhich ἐστιestiis κοδράντηςkodrantēsa small fraction of a denarius .
43ΚαὶKai- προσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenos[Jesus] called τοὺςtous- μαθητὰςmathētasdisciples {to Him} αὐτοῦautouHis εἶπενeipen[and] said αὐτοῖςautois- , ἈμὴνAmēn“ Truly λέγωlegōI tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ὅτιhoti- - χήραchērawidow - πτωχὴptōchēpoor αὕτηhautēthis πλεῖονpleionmore πάντωνpantōnthan all ἔβαλεebaletossed τῶνtōnthe βαλλόντωνballontōn[others] εἰςeisinto τὸtothe γαζοφυλάκιονgazophylakiontreasury .
44πάντεςpantesthey all γὰρgarFor ἐκekout of τοῦtou- περισσεύοντοςperisseuontossurplus , αὐτοῖςautoistheir ἔβαλονebaloncontributed αὕτηhautēshe δὲdebut ἐκekout of τῆςtēs- ὑστερήσεωςhysterēseōspoverty αὐτῆςautēsher πάνταpantaall ὅσαhosa. . . εἶχενeichenshe had ἔβαλενebalenhas put [in] ὅλονholonvvv τὸνtonvvv βίονbionto live on . ” αὐτῆςautēsvvv
