2πολὺpolyMuch κατὰkatain πάνταpantaevery τρόπονtroponway . πρῶτονprōtonFirst of all μὲνmenvvv γὰρgarvvv ὅτιhoti- , ἐπιστεύθησανepisteuthēsanthey have been entrusted with τὰtathe λόγιαlogiavery words τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God .
3ΤίTiWhat γάρgar- εἰeiif ἠπίστησάνēpistēsandid not have faith ? τινεςtinessome μὴvvv - ἀπιστίαapistialack of faith αὐτῶνautōn{Will} their τὴνtēn- πίστινpistinfaithfulness ? τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod’s καταργήσειkatargēseinullify
4μὴvvv γένοιτοgenoitoCertainly not ! γινέσθωginesthōbe δὲdeand ho- ΘεὸςTheos{Let} God ἀληθήςalēthēstrue πᾶςpasevery δὲdeand ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman ψεύστηςpseustēsa liar . καθὼς*kathōsAs γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written ὍπωςHopōs- : ἂνan“ So that δικαιωθῇςdikaiōthēsYou may be proved right ἐνenwhen τοῖςtois- λόγοιςlogoisspeak σουsouYou καὶkaiand νικήσῃςnikesesvictorious ἐνenwhen τῷ- κρίνεσθαίkrinesthaijudge .” σεseYou
5ΕἰEiif δὲdeBut - ἀδικίαadikiaunrighteousness ἡμῶνhēmōnour ΘεοῦTheouof God , δικαιοσύνηνdikaiosynēnthe righteousness συνίστησι,sunistesiproves τίtiwhat ἐροῦμενeroumenshall we say ? μὴ[is] ἄδικοςadikosunjust ho- ΘεὸςTheosGod ho[That] ἐπιφέρωνepipherōnto inflict τὴνtēn[His] ὀργήνorgēnwrath [on us] ? κατὰkatain ἄνθρωπονanthrōponhuman terms . λέγωlegōI am speaking
6μὴvvv γένοιτοgenoitoCertainly not ! ἐπεὶepeiIn that case , πῶςpōshow κρινεῖkrineijudge ho- ΘεὸςTheos{could} God τὸνtonthe κόσμονkosmonworld ?
7εἰeiif γὰρgarFor - ἀλήθειαalētheiatruthfulness , τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod’s ἐνen- τῷ- ἐμῷemōmy ψεύσματιpseusmatifalsehood ἐπερίσσευσενeperisseusenaccentuates εἰςeisto the increase τὴνtēn- δόξανdoxanglory , αὐτοῦautouof His τίtiwhy ἔτιetistill κἀγὼkagō{am} I ὡςhōsas ἁμαρτωλὸςhamartōlosa sinner ? κρίνομαιkrinomaicondemned
8καὶkai[Why] μὴnot [say] , καθὼςkathōsas βλασφημούμεθαblasphēmoumethaslanderously καὶkai- καθώςkathōs- φασίphasiclaim [that] τινεςtinessome ἡμᾶςhēmaswe λέγεινlegeinsay , ὅτιhoti“ - ΠοιήσωμενPoiēsōmenLet us do τὰta- κακὰkakaevil ἵναhinathat ἔλθῃelthēmay result ” ? τὰta- ἀγαθάagathagood ὧνhōnTheir τὸto- κρίμαkrimacondemnation ἔνδικόνendikondeserved ! ἐστίestiI have
9ΤίTiWhat οὖνounthen ? προεχόμεθαproechomethaAre we any better ? οὐouNot πάντωςpantōsat all . προῃτιασάμεθαproētiasamethawe have already made the charge γὰρgarFor ἸουδαίουςIoudaious[that] Jews τεtealike καὶkaiand ἝλληναςHellēnasGreeks πάνταςpantasall ὑφ’hyph’under ἁμαρτίανhamartiansin . εἶναιeinaiare
10καθὼςkathōsAs γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written ὅτιhoti- : ΟὐκOukno one ἐστίestiI have δίκαιοςdikaiosrighteous , οὐδὲoudenot even εἷςheisone .
11οὐκoukno one ἔστινestinThere is howho συνίωνsyniōnunderstands , οὐκoukno one ἔστινestin- howho ἐκζητῶνekzētōnseeks τὸνton- ΘεόνTheonGod .
12πάντεςpantesAll ἐξέκλινανexeklinanhave turned away , ἅμαhamavvv ἠχρειώθησαν·ekhreiothesanthey have together become worthless ; οὐκoukno one ἐστίestiI have ποιῶνpoiōndoes χρηστότηταchrēstotētagood , οὐκouknot ἔστινestin- ἕωςheōseven ἑνόςhenosone . ”
13τάφοςtaphosgraves ; ἀνεῳγμένοςaneōgmenosopen ho- λάρυγξlarynxthroats [are] αὐτῶνautōn“ Their ταῖςtais- γλώσσαιςglōssaistongues αὐτῶνautōntheir ἐδολιοῦσανedoliousanpractice deceit . ” ἰὸςios“ [The] venom ἀσπίδωνaspidōnof vipers ὑπὸhypo[is] on τὰta- χείληcheilēlips . ” αὐτῶνautōntheir
14ὧνhōn“ [Their] τὸto- στόμαstomamouths ἀρᾶςarasof cursing καὶkaiand πικρίαςpikriasbitterness . ” γέμειgemeiare full
15ὀξεῖςoxeisswift οἱhoi- πόδεςpodesfeet [are] αὐτῶνautōn“ Their ἐκχέαιekcheaito shed αἷμαhaimablood ;
16σύντριμμαsyntrimmaruin καὶkaiand ταλαιπωρίαtalaipōriamisery ἐνen[lie] in ταῖςtais- ὁδοῖςhodoiswake , αὐτῶνautōntheir
17καὶkaiand ὁδὸνhodon[the] way εἰρήνηςeirēnēsof peace οὐκoukvvv ἔγνωσανegnōsanthey have not known . ”
18οὐκoukvvv ἐστίestiI have φόβοςphobosfear ΘεοῦTheouof God ἀπέναντιapenantibefore τῶνtōn- ὀφθαλμῶνophthalmōneyes .” αὐτῶνautōntheir
19ΟἴδαμενOidamenwe know δὲdeNow ὅτιhotithat ὅσαhosawhatever hothe νόμοςnomoslaw λέγειlegeisays , τοῖςtoisto those who are ἐνenunder τῷthe νόμῳnomōlaw , λαλεῖlaleiit says ἵναhinaso that πᾶνpanevery στόμαstomamouth φραγῇphragēmay be silenced καὶkaiand ὑπόδικοςhypodikosheld accountable γένηταιgenētai- πᾶςpaswhole hothe κόσμοςkosmosworld τῷ- ΘεῷTheōto God .
20διότιdiotiTherefore ἐξexby ἔργωνergōnworks νόμουnomouof the law . οὐouno δικαιωθήσεταιdikaiōthēsetaiwill be justified πᾶσαpasaone σὰρξsarx. . . ἐνώπιονenōpionin His sight αὐτοῦautou. . . διὰdiamerely brings γὰρgarFor νόμουnomou[the] law ἐπίγνωσιςepignōsisawareness ἁμαρτίαςhamartiasof sin .
21ΝυνὶNyninow , δὲdeBut χωρὶςchōrisapart from νόμουnomou[the] law , δικαιοσύνηdikaiosynē[the] righteousness ΘεοῦTheouof God πεφανέρωταιpephanerōtaihas been revealed , μαρτυρουμένηmartyroumenēas attested ὑπὸhypoby τοῦtouthe νόμουnomouLaw καὶkaiand τῶνtōnthe προφητῶνprophētōnProphets .
22δικαιοσύνηdikaiosynē[this] righteousness δὲdeAnd ΘεοῦTheou[from] God διὰdia[comes] through πίστεωςpisteōsfaith ἸησοῦIēsouin Jesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist εἰςeisto πάνταςpantasall καὶkaiand ἐπὶepiat πάνταςpantasall τοὺςtouswho πιστεύονταςpisteuontasbelieve . οὐouno γὰρgarfor ἐστίestiI have διαστολήdiastolēdistinction ,
23πάντεςpantesall γὰρgarfor ἥμαρτονhēmartonhave sinned καὶkaiand ὑστεροῦνταιhysterountaifall short τῆςtēsof the δόξηςdoxēsglory τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ,
24δικαιούμενοιdikaioumenoi[and are] justified δωρεὰνdōreanfreely τῇby αὐτοῦautouHis χάριτιcharitigrace διὰdiathrough τῆςtēsthe ἀπολυτρώσεωςapolytrōseōsredemption τῆςtēsthat ἐνen[is] in ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἸησοῦIēsouJesus .
25ὃνhon[Him] προέθετοproethetopresented ho- ΘεὸςTheosGod ἱλαστήριονhilastērion[as the] atoning sacrifice διὰdiathrough [τῆς]tēs- πίστεωςpisteōsfaith ἐνenin τῷ- αὐτοῦautouHis αἵματιhaimatiblood , εἰςeisin order ἔνδειξινendeixinto demonstrate τῆςtēs- δικαιοσύνηςdikaiosynēsrighteousness , αὐτοῦautouHis διὰdiabecause τὴνtēn- πάρεσινparesin[He] had passed over τῶνtōnthe προγεγονότωνprogegonotōncommitted beforehand . ἁμαρτημάτωνhamartēmatōnsins
26ἐνenat τῇ ἀνοχῇanochēforbearance τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheou[His] πρὸςpros[He did this] ἔνδειξινendeixinto demonstrate τῆςtēs- δικαιοσύνηςdikaiosynēsrighteousness αὐτοῦautouHis ἐνenat τῷthe νῦνnynpresent καιρῷkairōtime , εἰςeisso as τὸto- εἶναιeinaito be αὐτὸνauton- δίκαιονdikaionjust καὶkaiand δικαιοῦνταdikaiountato justify τὸνtonthe [one] ἐκek[who has] πίστεωςpisteōsfaith ἸησοῦIēsouin Jesus .
27ΠοῦPouWhere , οὖνounthen, [is] - καύχησιςkauchēsisboasting ? ἐξεκλείσθηexekleisthēIt is excluded . διὰdiaOn ποίουpoiouwhat νόμουnomouprinciple ? τῶνtōn[On] that ἔργωνergōnof works ? οὐχίouchiNo , ἀλλὰallabut διὰdiaon νόμουnomou[that] πίστεωςpisteōsof faith .
28λογιζόμεθαlogizomethawe maintain that οὖνounthen, [is] πίστειpisteiby faith δικαιοῦσθαιdikaiousthaiis justified ἄνθρωπονanthrōpona man χωρὶςchōrisapart from ἔργωνergōnworks νόμουnomouof the law .
29Ē- ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnof Jews ho[Is God] the ΘεὸςTheosGod μόνονmonononly ? οὐχὶouchi[Is He] not δὲdeAnd καὶkaiand ἐθνῶνethnōn[the God] of Gentiles ναὶnaiYes , καὶkaitoo ? ἐθνῶνethnōn[the God] of Gentiles
30ἐπείπερepeiperif εἷςheisone ho- ΘεόςTheosGod , ὃςhoswho δικαιώσειdikaiōseiwill justify περιτομὴνperitomēn[the] circumcised ἐκekby πίστεωςpisteōsfaith καὶkaiand ἀκροβυστίανakrobystian[the] uncircumcised διὰdiathrough τῆςtēsthat [same] πίστεωςpisteōsfaith .
31ΝόμονNomon[the] law οὖνounvvv καταργοῦμενkatargoumenDo we, then, nullify διὰdiaby τῆςtēs[this] πίστεωςpisteōsfaith ? μὴvvv γένοιτοgenoitoCertainly not ! ἀλλὰallaInstead , νόμονnomon[the] law . ἱστῶμεν.istomenwe uphold
