2ἄχριachriuntil ἧςhēsthe ἡμέραςhēmerasday ἐντειλάμενοςenteilamenosafter giving instructions τοῖςtoisto the ἀποστόλοιςapostoloisapostles διὰdiathrough ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit ἉγίουHagiou[the] Holy οὓςhous- ἐξελέξατοexelexatoHe had chosen . ἀνελήφθη·anelephtheHe was taken up
3οἷςhoisto [them] καὶkai- παρέστησενparestēsenHe presented ἑαυτὸνheautonHimself ζῶνταzōnta[that] He was alive . μετὰmetaAfter τὸto- παθεῖνpatheinsuffering , αὐτὸνautonHis ἐνenwith πολλοῖςpolloismany τεκμηρίοιςtekmērioisconvincing proofs δι’di’over [a span ] ἡμερῶνhēmerōndays τεσσαράκονταtessarakonta[where for] forty ὀπτανόμενοςoptanomenosHe appeared αὐτοῖςautoisto them καὶkaiand λέγωνlegōnspoke τὰta- περὶperiabout τῆςtēsthe βασιλείαςbasileiaskingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God .
4ΚαὶKaiAnd συναλιζόμενοςsynalizomenoswhile they were gathered together , παρήγγειλενparēngeilenHe commanded αὐτοῖςautoisthem : ἀπὸapo. . . ἹεροσολύμωνHierosolymōnJerusalem , μὴvvv χωρίζεσθαιchōrizesthai“ Do not leave ἀλλὰallabut περιμένεινperimeneinwait for τὴνtēnthe [gift] ἐπαγγελίανepangelianpromised , τοῦtouthe ΠατρὸςPatrosFather ἫνHēnwhich ἠκούσατέēkousateyou have heard μουmouMe [ discuss ] .
5ὅτιhotiFor ἸωάννηςIōannēsJohn μὲνmen. . . ἐβάπτισενebaptisenbaptized ὕδατιhydatiwith water , ὑμεῖςhymeisyou δὲdebut βαπτισθήσεσθεbaptisthēsesthewill be baptized ἐνenwith ΠνεύματιPneumatiSpirit . ” ἉγίῳHagiō[the] Holy οὐouvvv μετὰmeta- πολλὰςpollasin a few ταύταςtautas- ἡμέραςhēmerasdays
6ΟἱHoi[when] they μὲνmen- οὖνounSo συνελθόντεςsynelthontescame together , ἘπηρώτωνEpērōtōnasked αὐτὸνautonHim λέγοντεςlegontes- , ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , εἰeivvv ἐνen{will You} at τῷ- χρόνῳchronōtime τούτῳtoutōthis ἀποκαθιστάνειςapokathistaneisrestore τὴνtēnthe βασιλείανbasileiankingdom τῷ- ἸσραήλIsraēlto Israel ? ”
7εἰπὲeipesay ‹δὲ›de- πρὸςpros. . . αὐτούςautous. . . , ΟὐχOuchnot ὑμῶνhymōnfor you ἐστίestiI have γνῶναιgnōnaito know χρόνουςchronoustimes ēor καιροὺςkairousseasons οὓςhousthat hothe ΠατὴρPatērFather ἔθετοethetohas fixed ἐνenby τῇ- ἰδίᾳidiaHis own ἐξουσίᾳexousiaauthority .
8ἀλλὰallaBut λήψεσθεlepsestheyou will receive δύναμινdynaminpower ἐπελθόντοςepelthontoscomes τοῦtou[when] the ἉγίουHagiouHoly ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit ἐφ’eph’upon ὑμᾶςhymasyou , καὶkaiand ἔσεσθέesestheyou will be μουmouMy μάρτυρεςmartyreswitnesses ἔνenin τεte- ἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēmJerusalem , καὶkaiand ἐνenin πάσῃpasēall τῇ- ἸουδαίᾳIoudaiaJudea καὶkaiand ΣαμαρείᾳSamareiaSamaria , καὶkaiand ἕωςheōsto ἐσχάτουeschatou[the] ends τῆςtēsof the γῆςgēsearth . ”
9ΚαὶKai[After] ταῦταtautathis , εἰπὼνeipōnHe had said βλεπόντωνblepontōnwatched as αὐτῶνautōnthey ἐπήρθηepērthēHe was taken up , καὶkaiand νεφέληnephelēa cloud ὑπέλαβενhypelabenhid αὐτὸνautonHim ἀπὸapofrom τῶνtōn- ὀφθαλμῶνophthalmōnsight . αὐτῶνautōntheir
10καὶkai- ὡςhōs- ἀτενίζοντεςatenizonteslooking intently ἦσανēsanThey were εἰςeisinto τὸνtonthe οὐρανὸνouranonsky πορευομένουporeuomenouwas going , αὐτοῦautouas He καὶkai[when] ἰδοὺidousuddenly ἄνδρεςandresmen δύοdyotwo παρειστήκεισανpareistēkeisanstood beside αὐτοῖςautoisthem . ἐνenin ἐσθῆτιesthētiapparel λευκῇ,leukea white
11οἳhoi- καὶkai- εἰπὼνeipōnHe had said ἄνδρεςandresmen ΓαλιλαῖοιGalilaioiof Galilee , ” τίti“ why ἑστήκατεhestēkatedo you stand [here] ἐμβλέποντεςemblepontes‘ [though] seeing , εἰςeisinto τὸνtonthe οὐρανόνouranonsky ? οὗτοςhoutosThis ho[same] ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus , howho ἀναληφθεὶςanalephtheishas been taken ἀφ’aph’from ὑμῶνhymōnyou εἰςeisinto τὸνton- οὐρανὸνouranonheaven , οὕτωςhoutōs- ἐλεύσεταιeleusetaiwill come back ὃνhonin the same way τρόπονtropon. . . ἐθεάσασθεetheasastheyou have seen αὐτὸνautonHim πορευόμενονporeuomenongo εἰςeisinto τὸνton- οὐρανόνouranonheaven . ”
12ΤότεToteThen ὑπέστρεψανhypestrepsanthey returned εἰςeisto ἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēmJerusalem ἀπὸapofrom ὄρουςorous[the] Mount τοῦtou- καλουμένουkaloumenouof ἘλαιῶνοςElaiōnosOlives , howhich ἐστινestinis ἐγγὺςengysnear ἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēm[the city] , σαββάτουsabbatoua Sabbath day’s ἔχονechonaway . ὁδόνhodonjourney
13καὶkai- ὅτεhoteWhen εἰσῆλθονeisēlthonthey arrived , ἀνέβησανanebēsanthey went εἰςeisto τὸtothe ὑπερῷονhyperōonupper room οὗhouwhere ἦσανēsanthey were καταμένοντεςkatamenontesstaying : ho- τεte- ΠέτροςPetrosPeter καὶkaiand ἸάκωβοςIakōbosJames καὶkaiand ἸωάννηςIōannēsJohn , καὶkai- ἈνδρέαςAndreasAndrew , ΦίλιπποςPhilipposPhilip καὶkaiand ΘωμᾶςThōmasThomas , ΒαρθολομαῖοςBartholomaiosBartholomew καὶkaiand Ματθαῖος,matthaiosMatthew , ἸάκωβοςIakōbosJames [son] ἉλφαίουHalphaiouof Alphaeus , καὶkai- ΣίμωνSimōnSimon hothe ΖηλωτὴςZēlōtēsZealot , καὶkaiand ἸούδαςIoudasJudas [son] ἸακώβουIakōbouof James .
14οὗτοιhoutoithey πάντεςpantesall ἦσανēsan- προσκαρτεροῦντεςproskarterountescontinued ὁμοθυμαδὸνhomothymadonWith one accord τῇ- προσευχῇproseuchēin prayer , καὶkaiand τῇthe δεήσειdeeseiyou bind σὺνsynalong with γυναιξὶgynaixi[their] wives καὶkaiand ΜαρίαMariaMary τῇthe μητρὶmētrimother τοῦtou- ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus , καὶkaiand σὺνsynwith τοῖςtois- ἀδελφοῖςadelphoisbrothers . αὐτοῦautouHis
15ΚαὶKai- ἐνenIn ταῖςtais- ἡμέραιςhēmeraisdays ταύταιςtautaisthose ἀναστὰςanastasstood up ΠέτροςPetrosPeter ἐνenvvv μέσῳmesōamong τῶνtōnthe μαθητῶνmathētōndisciples [was there] , εἶπενeipensaid , ἣνhēnwhich τεte- ὄχλοςochlos- ὀνομάτωνonomatōn. . . ἐπὶepi( a gathering of τὸto[and] αὐτὸauto- ὡςhōs- ἑκατὸνhekatona hundred εἴκοσιν·eikosintwenty
16ἌνδρεςAndres“ vvv ἀδελφοίadelphoiBrothers , ἔδειedeihad to πληρωθῆναιplērōthēnaibe fulfilled τὴνtēnthe γραφὴνgraphēnScripture ταύτηνtautēnthis ἣνhēnwhich προεῖπεproeipeforetold τὸtothe ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit τὸto- ἍγιονHagionHoly διὰdiathrough στόματοςstomatos[the] mouth ΔαυὶδDauidof David περὶpericoncerning ἸούδαIoudaJudas , τοῦtouwho γενομένουgenomenoubecame ὁδηγοῦhodēgoua guide τοῖςtoisfor those who συλλαβοῦσιsullabousiarrested τὸνton. . . ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus .
17ὅτιhoti- κατηριθμημένοςkatērithmēmenosnumber ἐνenone of σὺνsynwith ἡμῖνhēminour καὶkaiand ἔλαχεelachehe was chosen by lot , τὸνton. . . κλῆρονklēron. . . τῆςtēs- διακονίαςdiakoniasministry . ” ταύτηςtautēsin this
18ΟὗτοςHoutos[Judas] μὲνmen- οὖνoun( Now ἐκτήσατοektēsatobought χωρίονchōriona field ; ἐκekwith μισθοῦmisthou[the] reward τῆςtēsfor [his] ἀδικίαςadikiaswickedness καὶkai[there] πρηνὴςprēnēsheadlong γενόμενοςgenomenoshe fell ἐλάκησεelakeseand burst open μέσοςmesosin [the] middle , καὶkaiand ἐξεχύθηexechythēspilled out . πάνταpantaall τὰta- σπλάγχναsplanchnaintestines αὐτοῦautouhis
19καὶkaiand γνωστὸνgnōstonknown ἐγένετοegeneto[This] became πᾶσιpasito all τοῖςtois- κατοικοῦσινkatoikousinwho lived ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmin Jerusalem , ὥστεhōsteso κληθῆναιklēthēnaithey called τὸto- χωρίονchōrionfield ἐκεῖνοekeinothat τῇin ἰδίᾳidiaown διαλέκτῳdialektōlanguage αὐτῶνautōntheir Ἀκελδαμᾶ,akeldamaAkeldama , τοῦτ’tout’that ἐστίestiI have ΧωρίονChōrionField αἵματοςhaimatosof Blood .)
20ΓέγραπταιGegraptaiit is written γὰρgar“ For ἐνenin βίβλῳbiblō[the] book ΨαλμῶνPsalmōnof Psalms : ΓενηθήτωGenēthētōbe - ἔπαυλιςepaulisplace αὐτοῦautou‘ {May} his ἔρημοςerēmosdeserted ; καὶkai- μὴno ἔστωestōlet there be ho[one] κατοικῶνkatoikōnto dwell ἐνenin αὐτῇautēit ,’ ΚαίKaiand , ΤὴνTēn- ἐπισκοπὴνepiskopēnposition .’ αὐτοῦautouhis λάβοιlaboihas had ἕτεροςheteros‘ {May} another
21ΔεῖDeiit is necessary [to choose] οὖνounTherefore τῶνtōnone of the συνελθόντωνsynelthontōnwho have accompanied ἡμῖνhēminus ἀνδρῶνandrōnmen ἐνenvvv παντὶpanti[the] whole χρόνῳchronōtime - εἰσέλθῃeiselthēwill never enter καὶkaiand ἐξῆλθενexēlthenout ἐφ’eph’among ἡμᾶςhēmasus , hothe ΚύριοςKyriosLord ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus
22ἀρξάμενοςarxamenosbeginning ἀπὸapofrom τοῦtou- βαπτίσματοςbaptismatosbaptism ἸωάννουIōannouJohn’s ἕωςheōsuntil τῆςtēsthe ἡμέραςhēmerasday ἧςhēs- ἀνελήφθηanelephtheHe was taken up ἀφ’aph’from ἡμῶνhēmōnus . μάρτυραmartyraa witness τῆςtēsof ἀναστάσεωςanastaseōsresurrection . ” αὐτοῦautouHis γενέσθαιgenesthaimust become σὺνsynwith ἡμῖνhēminus ἕναhena[For] one τούτωνtoutōnof these
23ΚαὶKai[So] ἔστησανestēsanthey proposed δύοdyotwo [men] : ἸωσὴφIōsēphJoseph τὸνton- καλούμενονkaloumenoncalled ΒαρσαββᾶνBarsabbanBarsabbas ὃςhos( - ἐπεκλήθηepeklēthē[also] known as ἸοῦστοςIoustosJustus) καὶkaiand Ματθίαν,matthianMatthias .
24καὶkaiand προσευξάμενοιproseuxamenoithey prayed εἰπὼνeipōnHe had said ΣὺSyYou ΚύριεKyrie“ Lord , καρδιογνῶσταkardiognōstaknow everyone’s heart πάντωνpantōn. . . . ἀνάδειξονanadeixonShow [us] ὃνhonwhich ἐξελέξωexelexōYou have chosen ἐκekof τούτωνtoutōnthese τῶνtōn- δύοdyotwo ἕναhena. . .
25λαβεῖνlabeinto take up τὸνton. . . κλῆρονklēron. . . τῆςtēs- διακονίαςdiakoniasministry . ” ταύτηςtautēsin this καὶkaiand ἀποστολῆςapostolēsapostleship , ἐξexwho belonged to ἧςhēswhich παρέβηparebēabandoned ἸούδαςIoudasJudas πορευθῆναιporeuthēnaito go εἰςeisto τὸνtonhis τόπονtoponplace . ” τὸνton- ἴδιονidion[rightful]
26καὶkaiThen ἔδωκανedōkanthey cast κλήρουςklērouslots αὐτῶνautōntheir καὶkai- ἔπεσενepesenfell hothe κλῆροςklēroslot ἐπὶepito Ματθίαν,matthianMatthias . καὶkai[so] συγκατεψηφίσθηsugkatepsephisthehe was added μετὰmetato τῶνtōnthe ἕνδεκαhendekaeleven ἀποστόλωνapostolōnapostles .
