2ὅτιhoti- ἐνenIn πολλῇpollē[the] terrible δοκιμῇdokimēordeal θλίψεωςthlipseōsthey suffered , ἡhē- περισσείαperisseiaabundant τῆςtēs- χαρᾶςcharasjoy αὐτῶνautōntheir καὶkaiand ἡhē- κατὰkata- βάθουςbathousdeep πτωχείαptōcheiapoverty αὐτῶνautōn- ἐπερίσσευσενeperisseusenoverflowed εἰςeisinto τὸto- πλοῦτοςploutosrich τῆςtēs- ἁπλότητοςhaplotētosgenerosity αὐτῶνautōn- .

3ὅτιhotiFor κατὰkata[they gave] according to δύναμινdynamin[their] ability μαρτυρῶmartyrōI testify [that] καὶkaiand even ὑπὲρhyper[I have] for δύναμινdynamin[it] . αὐθαίρετοιauthairetoiOf their own accord ,

4μετὰmetavvv πολλῆςpollēsvvv παρακλήσεωςparaklēseōsthey earnestly δεόμενοιdeomenoipleaded ἡμῶνhēmōnwith us τὴνtēnfor the χάρινcharinprivilege καὶkai- τὴνtēn- κοινωνίανkoinōnianof sharing τῆςtēsin [this] διακονίαςdiakoniasservice τῆςtēs- εἰςeisto τοὺςtousthe ἁγίουςhagioussaints .

5καὶkaiAnd οὐounot [only] καθὼςkathōs[did they do] as ἠλπίσαμενēlpisamenwe expected , ἀλλ’*all’but ἑαυτοὺςheautousthemselves ἔδωκανedōkanthey gave πρῶτονprōtonfirst τῷtōto the ΚυρίῳKyriōLord καὶkaiand then ἡμῖνhēminto us , διὰdiabecause it was θελήματοςthelēmatos[the] will ΘεοῦTheouof God .

6ΕἰςEisSo τὸto- παρακαλέσαιparakalesaiurged ἡμᾶςhēmaswe ΤίτονTitonTitus ἵναhina- καθὼςkathōsjust as προενήρξατοproenērxatohe had started [it] . οὕτωhoutōso καὶkai- ἐπιτελέσῃepitelesēto help complete εἰςeisvvv ὑμᾶςhymasyour καὶkai- τὴνtēn[act of] χάρινcharingrace , ταύτηνtautēn-

7ἀλλ’all’But ὥσπερhōsperjust as ἐνenin παντὶpantieverything — περισσεύετεperisseueteyou excel πίστειpisteiin faith , καὶkai- λόγῳlogōin speech , καὶkai- γνώσειgnōseiin knowledge , καὶkaiin πάσῃpasēcomplete σπουδῇspoudēearnestness , καὶkaiand τῇtēin the ἐξex[inspired] ὑμῶνhymōnyour ἐνenAt ἡμῖνhēminto us , ἀγάπῃagapēlove ἵναhina[see] that καὶkai. . . ἐνenin ταύτῃtautēthis τῇtē- χάριτιcharitigrace of giving . περισσεύητεperisseuēteyou also excel

8ΟὐOuvvv κατ’kat’- ἐπιταγὴνepitagēna demand , λέγωlegōI am not making ἀλλὰallabut διὰdiain comparison to τῆςtēsthe ἑτέρωνheterōnof others σπουδῆςspoudēsearnestness καὶkai- . τὸtothe τῆςtēs- ὑμετέραςhymeterasof your ἀγάπηςagapēslove γνήσιονgnēsionsincerity δοκιμάζωνdokimazōnI am testing

9ΓινώσκετεGinōsketeyou know γὰρgarFor τὴνtēnthe χάρινcharingrace τοῦtou- ΚυρίουKyriouLord ἡμῶνhēmōnof our ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist , ὅτιhotithat δι’di’yet for your sakes ὑμᾶςhymas. . . ἐπτώχευσεeptokheuseHe became poor , πλούσιοςplousiosrich , ὤνōn[though] He was ἵναhinaso that ὑμεῖςhymeisyou τῇtē- ἐκείνουekeinouthrough [His] πτωχείᾳptōcheiapoverty πλουτήσητεploutēsētemight become rich .

10καὶkaiAnd γνώμηνgnōmēn. . . ἐνenin τούτῳtoutōthis [matter] : δίδωμιdidōmiis my opinion τοῦτοtoutothis γὰρgarabout ὑμῖνhyminfor you συμφέρειsymphereiwhat is helpful οἵτινεςhoitines[you were] οὐounot μόνονmonononly τὸto- ποιῆσαιpoiēsaito [give] , ἀλλὰallabut καὶkaieven τὸto- θέλεινtheleinto have such a desire . προενήρξασθεproenērxasthethe first ἀπὸapovvv πέρυσιperysiLast year

11νυνὶnyniNow δὲde. . . καὶkai. . . τὸto- ποιῆσαιpoiēsaithe work , ἐπιτελέσατεepitelesatefinish ὅπωςhopōsso that καθάπερkathaperjust as ἡhē- προθυμίαprothymiaeagerly τοῦtou- θέλεινtheleinas you began οὕτωhoutōso καὶkai. . . , τὸto- ἐπιτελέσαιepitelesaiyou may complete it ἐκekaccording to τοῦtou[your] ἔχεινecheinmeans .

12εἰeiif γὰρgarFor ἡhēthe προθυμίαprothymiaeagerness πρόκειταιprokeitaiis there , καθὸkathoaccording to ἐὰνeanwhat ἔχῃechēone has , τιςtisany εὐπρόσδεκτοςeuprosdektos[the gift] is acceptable οὐounot καθὸkathoaccording to οὐκoukvvv ἔχειechei[what] he does not have .

13ΟὐOu. . . γὰρgar[It is not our intention] ἵναhinathat ἄλλοιςalloisothers ἄνεσιςanesismay be relieved ὑμῖνhyminwhile you δὲde. . . θλῖψιςthlipsisare burdened , ἀλλ’all’but ἐξex[that there may be] ἰσότητοςisotētosequality . ἐνenAt τῷtōthe νῦνnynpresent καιρῷkairōtime , τὸto- ὑμῶνhymōnyour περίσσευμαperisseumasurplus εἰςeiswill meet τὸto- ἐκείνωνekeinōntheir ὑστέρημαhysterēmaneed ,

14ἵναhinaso that καὶkaiin turn τὸto- ἐκείνωνekeinōntheir περίσσευμαperisseumasurplus γένηταιgenētaiwill εἰςeismeet τὸto- ὑμῶνhymōnyour ὑστέρημαhysterēmaneed . ὅπωςhopōsThen γένηταιgenētaithere will be ἰσότηςisotēsequality .

15καθὼςkathōsAs γέγραπταιgegraptaiit is written : ὉHo“ He who [gathered] τὸto- πολὺpolymuch οὐκoukvvv ἐπλεόνασε,epleonaseincreased , καὶkaiand ὁhohe who [gathered] τὸto- ὀλίγονoligonlittle οὐκoukvvv ἠλαττόνησε.elattonesehad no shortfall .”

16ΧάριςCharisthanks [be] δὲdeBut τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōto God , τῷtōwho διδόντιdidontiput τὴνtēnthe αὐτὴνautēnsame σπουδὴνspoudēndevotion ὑπὲρhyper[I have] for ὑμῶνhymōnyou . ἐνeninto τῇtēthe καρδίᾳkardiaheart ΤίτουTitouof Titus

17ὅτιhotiFor τὴνtēn[our] μὲνmennot only παράκλησινparaklēsinappeal , ἐδέξατοedexatodid he welcome σπουδαιότεροςspoudaioteros{is} eagerly δὲdebut ὑπάρχωνhyparchōnhe αὐθαίρετοςauthairetosof his own volition . ἜξελθεExelthe‘ Go out πρὸςprosto ὑμᾶςhymasyou

18ΣυνεπέμψαμενSynepempsamenwe are sending δὲde- μετ’met’Along with αὐτοῦautou[Titus] τὸνtonthe ἀδελφὸνadelphonbrother οὗhouwho ὁho- ἔπαινοςepainosis praised ἐνen[for his work] in τῷtōthe εὐαγγελίῳeuangeliōgospel . διὰdiaby πασῶνpasōnall τῶνtōnthe ἐκκλησιῶνekklēsiōnchurches

19οὐou. . . μόνονmonon. . . δὲde. . . ἀλλὰalla. . . , καὶkaiMore than that χειροτονηθεὶςcheirotonētheis[this brother] was chosen ὑπὸhypoby τῶνtōnthe ἐκκλησιῶνekklēsiōnchurches συνέκδημοςsynekdēmosto accompany ἡμῶνhēmōnus σὺν*synwith τῇtēthe χάριτιcharitigracious gift ταύτῃtautē[the offering] — τῇtēthe διακονουμένῃdiakonoumenēadminister ὑφ’hyph’- ἡμῶνhēmōnwe πρὸςprosto τὴνtēn- αὐτοῦautouHimself τοῦtouthe ΚυρίουKyriouLord δόξανdoxanhonor καὶkaiand [to show] προθυμίανprothymianeagerness [to help] . ἡμῶνhēmōnour

20στελλόμενοιstellomenoiWe [hope to] avoid τοῦτοtouto- μήmē- τιςtisany ἡμᾶςhēmas- μωμήσηταιmōmēsētaicriticism ἐνenof τῇtē- ἁδρότητιhadrotētigenerous [ gift ] . ταύτῃtautēthis τῇtē- διακονουμένῃdiakonoumenēadminister ὑφ’hyph’[the way] ἡμῶνhēmōnwe

21προνοούμενοιpronooumenoiCarefully consider καλὰkalawhat is right , οὐounot μόνονmonononly ἐνώπιονenōpionin the eyes ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord , ἀλλὰallabut καὶkaialso ἐνώπιονenōpionin the eyes ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnof men .

22ΣυνεπέμψαμενSynepempsamenwe are sending along with δὲdeAnd αὐτοῖςautoisthem τὸνton- ἀδελφὸνadelphonbrother ἡμῶνhēmōnour ὃνhonwhose ἐδοκιμάσαμενedokimasamenhas been proven ἐνen[and] in πολλοῖςpolloismany ways , πολλάκιςpollakismany times σπουδαῖονspoudaionearnestness ὄνταontavvv νυνὶnyninow δὲdeand πολὺpolyeven σπουδαιότερονspoudaioteron[so] πεποιθήσειpepoithēseiby [his] great confidence πολλῇpollēmore τῇtē- εἰςeisin ὑμᾶςhymasyou .

23εἴτεeiteAs for ὑπὲρhyper. . . ΤίτουTitouTitus , κοινωνὸςkoinōnospartner ἐμὸςemos[he is] my καὶkaiand εἰςeisamong ὑμᾶςhymasyou . συνεργόςsynergosfellow worker εἴτεeite[As for] ἀδελφοὶadelphoibrothers , ἡμῶνhēmōnour ἀπόστολοιapostoloi[they are] messengers ἐκκλησιῶνekklēsiōnof [the] churches , δόξαdoxa[to the] glory ΧριστοῦChristouof Christ .

24τὴνtēnthe οὖνounthen , ἔνδειξινendeixinproof τῆςtēsof ἀγάπηςagapēslove ὑμῶνhymōnyour καὶkaiand ἡμῶνhēmōnvvv καυχήσεωςkauchēseōsthe reason for our boasting ὑπὲρhyperabout ὑμῶνhymōnyou . εἰςeis- αὐτοὺςautous[these men] ἐνδείξασθεendeixastheto demonstrate εἰςeis- πρόσωπονprosōponfull view τῶνtōnof the ἐκκλησιῶνekklēsiōnchurches ,
