1ΤίTiWhat οὖνounthen ἐροῦμενeroumenshall we say ? ἐπιμενοῦμενepimenoumenShall we continue τῇtē- ἁμαρτίᾳhamartiain sin ἵναhinaso that ἡhē- χάριςcharisgrace πλεονάσῃpleonasēmay increase ?
2μὴmēvvv γένοιτοgenoitoCertainly not ! οἵτινεςhoitineswho ἀπεθάνομενapethanomendied τῇtē- ἁμαρτίᾳhamartiato sin πῶςpōsHow {can we} ἔτιetiany longer ? ζήσομενzēsomenlive ἐνenin αὐτῇautēit
3ἢēOr ἀγνοεῖτεagnoeitearen’t you aware ὅτιhotithat ὅσοιhosoiall of ἐβαπτίσθημενebaptisthēmenus who were baptized εἰςeisinto ΧριστὸνChristonChrist ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus εἰςeisinto τὸνton- θάνατονthanatondeath ? αὐτοῦautouHis ἐβαπτίσθημενebaptisthēmenwere baptized
4συνετάφημενsynetaphēmenWe were therefore buried οὖνounvvv αὐτῷautōwith Him διὰdiathrough τοῦtou- βαπτίσματοςbaptismatosbaptism εἰςeisinto τὸνton- θάνατονthanatondeath , ἵναhinain order that , ὥσπερhōsperjust as ἠγέρθηēgerthēwas raised ΧριστὸςChristosChrist ἐκekfrom νεκρῶνnekrōn[the] dead διὰdiathrough τῆςtēsthe δόξηςdoxēsglory τοῦtouof the ΠατρόςPatrosFather , οὕτωhoutōso καὶkaitoo ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe ἐνenin καινότητιkainotētinewness ζωῆςzōēsof life . περιπατήσωμενperipatēsōmenmay walk
5ΕἰEiif γὰρgarFor σύμφυτοιsymphytoiunited with Him γεγόναμενgegonamenwe have been τῷtōin ὁμοιώματιhomoiōmatilike this τοῦtou. . . θανάτουthanatoudeath , αὐτοῦautouHis ἀλλὰallavvv καὶkaivvv τῆςtēsvvv ἀναστάσεωςanastaseōsin His resurrection . ἐσόμεθαesomethawe will certainly also be [united with Him]
6τοῦτοtouto- γινώσκοντεςginōskontesWe know ὅτιhotithat ὁho- παλαιὸςpalaiosold ἡμῶνhēmōnour ἄνθρωποςanthrōposself συνεσταυρώθηsynestaurōthēwas crucified with [Him] ἵναhinaso that καταργηθῇkatargēthēmight be rendered powerless , τὸtothe σῶμαsōmabody τῆςtēs- ἁμαρτίαςhamartiasof sin τοῦtou- μηκέτιmēketi{should} no longer δουλεύεινdouleueinbe slaves ἡμᾶςhēmas[that] we τῇtē- ἁμαρτίᾳhamartiato sin .
7ὁho[anyone who] γὰρgarFor ἀποθανὼνapothanōnhas died δεδικαίωταιdedikaiōtaihas been freed ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēs- ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassin .
8ΕἰEiif δὲdeNow ἀπεθάνομενapethanomenwe died σὺνsynwith ΧριστῷChristōChrist , πιστεύομενpisteuomenwe believe ὅτιhotithat καὶkaivvv συζήσομεν*syzēsomenwe will also live with αὐτῷautōHim .
9εἰδότεςeidotes[For] we know ὅτιhotithat [since] ΧριστὸςChristosChrist ἐγερθεὶςegertheiswas raised ἐκekfrom νεκρῶνnekrōn[the] dead , οὐκέτιouketi. . . ; ἀποθνῄσκειapothnēskeiHe cannot die again θάνατοςthanatosdeath αὐτοῦautouHim . οὐκέτιouketino longer κυριεύειkyrieueihas dominion over
10ὃho[The death] γὰρgar- ἀπέθανε,apethaneshe is not dead τῇtē- ἁμαρτίᾳhamartiato sin ἀπέθανενapethanenHe died ἐφάπαξephapaxonce for all ; ὃho[the life] δὲdebut ζῇzēHe lives , ζῇzēHe lives , τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōto God .
11οὕτωhoutōso καὶkaitoo ὑμεῖςhymeisyou λογίζεσθεlogizesthemust count ἑαυτοὺςheautousyourselves νεκροὺςnekrousdead μὲνmen- εἶναιeinai- τῇtē- ἁμαρτίᾳhamartiato sin , ζῶνταςzōntasalive δὲdebut τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōto God ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἸησοῦIēsouJesus . τῷtō- ΚυρίῳKyriōLord . ἡμῶνhēmōnour
12μὴmēvvv οὖνounthen ? βασιλευέτωbasileuetōdo not let sin reign ἡhē. . . ἁμαρτίαhamartia. . . ἐνenin τῷtō- θνητῷthnētōmortal ὑμῶνhymōnyour σώματιsōmatibody εἰςeisso that τὸto- ὑπακούεινhypakoueinyou obey αὐτῇautēit ἐνenin ταῖςtais- ἐπιθυμίαιςepithymiaisdesires . αὐτοῦautouits
13μηδὲmēde{Do} not παριστάνετεparistanetepresent τὰtathe μέληmelēparts ὑμῶνhymōnof your [body] ὅπλαhoplaas instruments ἀδικίαςadikiasof wickedness , τῇtē- ἁμαρτίᾳhamartiato sin ἀλλὰallabut παραστήσατεparastēsatepresent ἑαυτοὺςheautousyourselves τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōto God ὡςhōswhen ἐκek[brought] from νεκρῶνnekrōndeath ζῶνταςzōntasto life ; καὶkaiand [present] τὰtathe μέληmelēparts ὑμῶνhymōnof your [body] ὅπλαhoplaas instruments δικαιοσύνηςdikaiosynēsof righteousness . τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōto [Him]
14ἁμαρτίαhamartiasin γὰρgarFor ὑμῶνhymōn. . . , οὐouvvv κυριεύσειkyrieuseishall not be your master οὐouvvv γὰρgarFor ἐστεesteyou are ὑπὸhypounder νόμονnomonlaw , ἀλλ’all’Instead , ὑπὸhypounder χάρινcharingrace .
15ΤίTiWhat οὖνounthen ? ἁμαρτήσωμενhamartēsōmenShall we sin ὅτιhotibecause οὐκouknot ἐσμὲνesmenwe are ὑπὸhypounder νόμονnomonlaw , ἀλλ’all’Instead , ὑπὸhypounder χάρινcharingrace ? μὴmēvvv γένοιτοgenoitoCertainly not !
16οὐκoukvvv οἴδατεoidateDo you not know ὅτιhotithat ᾧhō[when] παριστάνετεparistaneteyou offer ἑαυτοὺςheautousyourselves δούλουςdoulousslaves , εἰςeis[as] ὑπακοήνhypakoēnobedient δοῦλοίdouloislaves ἐστεesteyou are ᾧhōto [the one] ὑπακούετεhypakoueteyou obey , ἤτοιētoiwhether [you are slaves] ἁμαρτίαςhamartiasto sin εἰςeis[leading] to θάνατονthanatondeath , ἢēor ὑπακοῆςhypakoēsto obedience εἰςeis[leading] to δικαιοσύνηνdikaiosynēnrighteousness ?
17χάριςcharisthanks [be] δὲdeBut τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōto God ὅτιhotithat , ἦτεētethough you once were δοῦλοιdouloislaves τῆςtēs- ἁμαρτίαςhamartiasto sin , ὑπηκούσατεhypēkousateyou wholeheartedly obeyed δὲdevvv ἐκek. . . καρδίαςkardias. . . εἰςeisto ὃνhonwhich παρεδόθητεparedothēteyou were committed . τύπονtyponthe form διδαχῆςdidachēsof teaching
18ἐλευθερωθέντεςeleutherōthentesYou have been set free δὲde- ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēs- ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassin ἐδουλώθητεedoulōthēte[and] have become slaves τῇtē- δικαιοσύνῃdikaiosynēto righteousness .
19ἈνθρώπινονAnthrōpinonin human terms λέγωlegōI am speaking διὰdiabecause of τὴνtēnthe ἀσθένειανastheneianweakness τῆςtēsof σαρκὸςsarkosflesh . ὑμῶνhymōnyour ὥσπερhōsperJust as γὰρgar. . . παρεστήσατεparestēsateyou used to offer τὰtathe μέληmelēparts of ὑμῶνhymōnyour [body] δοῦλαdoulain slavery τῇtē- ἀκαθαρσίᾳakatharsiato impurity καὶkaiand τῇtēto ἀνομίᾳanomiavvv εἰςeisescalating τὴνtēn- ἀνομίανanomianwickedness , οὕτωhoutōso νῦνnynnow παραστήσατεparastēsateoffer τὰtavvv μέληmelē[them] ὑμῶνhymōnvvv δοῦλαdoulain slavery τῇtē- δικαιοσύνῃdikaiosynēto righteousness εἰςeisleading to ἁγιασμόνhagiasmonholiness .
20ὍτεHotewhen γὰρgarFor δοῦλοιdouloislaves ἦτεēteyou were τῆςtēs- ἁμαρτίαςhamartiasto sin , ἐλεύθεροιeleutheroifree of obligation ἦτεēteyou were τῇtē- δικαιοσύνῃdikaiosynēto righteousness .
21τίναtinaWhat οὖνoun- καρπὸνkarponfruit εἴχετεeichetedid you reap τότεtoteat that time ἐφ’eph’from the [things] οἷςhoisof which νῦνnynvvv ἐπαισχύνεσθεepaischynestheyou are now ashamed ? τὸtoThe γὰρgar- τέλοςtelosoutcome ἐκείνωνekeinōnof those things θάνατοςthanatos[is] death .
22νυνὶnyninow [that] δέdeBut ἐλευθερωθέντεςeleutherōthentesyou have been set free ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēs- ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassin δουλωθέντεςdoulōthenteshave become slaves δὲdeand τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōto God , ἔχετεecheteyou reap τὸνtonthe καρπὸνkarponfruit ὑμῶνhymōn. . . εἰςeis[leads to] ἁγιασμόνhagiasmonholiness , τὸtothe δὲdeand τέλοςtelosoutcome ζωὴνzōēnlife . αἰώνιονaiōnion[is] eternal
23τὰtathe γὰρgarFor ὀψώνιαopsōniawages τῆςtēs- ἁμαρτίαςhamartiasof sin θάνατοςthanatos[is] death , τὸtothe δὲdebut χάρισμαcharismagift τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ζωὴzōēlife αἰώνιοςaiōnios[is] eternal ἐνenin ΧριστῷChristōChrist ἸησοῦIēsouJesus τῷtō- ΚυρίῳKyriōLord . ἡμῶνhēmōnour
