1ἘρωτῶμενErōtōmenwe ask δὲdeBut ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἀδελφοὶadelphoibrothers ὑπὲρhyperconcerning τῆςtēsthe παρουσίαςparousiascoming τοῦtou- ΚυρίουKyriouLord ἡμῶνhēmōnof our ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist καὶkaiand ἡμῶνhēmōnour ἐπισυναγωγῆςepisynagōgēsbeing gathered together ἐπ’ep’to αὐτόνautonHim ,
2εἰςeis- τὸtovvv μὴmēnot ταχέωςtacheōsvvv σαλευθῆναιsaleuthēnaito be easily disconcerted ὑμᾶςhymas- ἀπὸapo. . . τοῦtou. . . νοὸςnoos. . . μηδὲmēde[or] θροεῖσθαιthroeisthaialarmed μήτεmēte- διὰdiaby πνεύματοςpneumatos[any] spirit μήτεmēte[or] διὰdia- λόγουlogoumessage μήτεmēte[or] δι’di’- ἐπιστολῆςepistolēsletter ὡςhōsseeming δι’di’[to be] from ἡμῶνhēmōnus , ὡςhōs[alleging] ὅτιhotithat ἐνέστηκενenestēkenhas already come . ἡhēthe ἡμέραhēmeraDay τοῦtouof the ΧριστοῦChristouChrist
3μὴmēnot τιςtisone ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἐξαπατήσῃexapatēsēdeceive κατὰkatain μηδέναmēdena[any] τρόπονtroponway , ὅτιhotifor [ it will not come ] ἐὰνeanuntil μὴmē. . . ἔλθῃelthēoccurs ἡhēthe ἀποστασίαapostasiarebellion πρῶτονprōtonvvv καὶkaiand ἀποκαλυφθῇapokalyphthēis revealed . ὁho[He] ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman τῆςtēs- ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassins ? ” ὁhothe υἱὸςhuiosson τῆςtēs- ἀπωλείαςapōleiasof destruction —
4ὁho[He] ἀντικείμενοςantikeimenoswill oppose καὶkaiand ὑπεραιρόμενοςhyperairomenosexalt himself ἐπὶepiabove πάνταpantaevery λεγόμενονlegomenonso-called ΘεὸνTheongod ἢēor σέβασμαsebasmaobject of worship . ὥστεhōsteSo αὐτὸνautonhe εἰςeisin τὸνtonthe ναὸνnaontemple τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God , καθίσαιkathisaiwill seat himself ἀποδεικνύνταapodeiknyntaproclaiming himself ἑαυτὸνheauton. . . ὅτιhoti- ἐστίestiI have ΘεόςTheosGod .
5ΟὐOuvvv μνημονεύετεmnēmoneueteDo you not remember ὅτιhotithat ἔτιetistill ὢνōnwhile I was πρὸςproswith ὑμᾶςhymasyou ? ταῦταtautathese things ἔλεγονelegonI told ὑμῖνhyminyou
6καὶkaiAnd νῦνnynvvv τὸtowhat κατέχονkatechonis now restraining [him] , οἴδατεoidateyou know εἰςeisso that τὸto- ἀποκαλυφθῆναιapokalyphthēnaimay be revealed αὐτὸνautonhe ἐνenat τῷtōthe ἑαυτοῦ*heautou- καιρῷkairōproper time .
7τῷtōthe γὰρgarFor μυστήριονmystērionmystery ἤδηēdē{is} already ἐνεργεῖταιenergeitaiat work , τῆςtēs- ἀνομίαςanomiasof lawlessness μόνονmononbut ὁhothe [one who] κατέχωνkatechōnrestrains [it] ἄρτιartinow ἕωςheōs[will continue] until ἐκekout of μέσουmesou[the] way . γένηταιgenētaihe is taken
8καὶkaiAnd τότεtotethen ἀποκαλυφθήσεταιapokalyphthēsetaiwill be revealed , ὁhothe ἄνομοςanomoslawless [one] ὃνhonwhom ὁhothe ΚύριοςKyriosLord ἀναλώσειanaloseiconsume τῷtōwith the πνεύματιpneumatibreath τοῦtouof στόματοςstomatosmouth αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkaiand καταργήσειkatargēseiannihilate τῇtēby the ἐπιφανείᾳepiphaneiamajesty τῆςtēsof παρουσίαςparousiasarrival . αὐτοῦautouHis
9οὗhouvvv ἐστινestinwill be ἡhēThe παρουσίαparousiacoming [of the lawless one] κατ’kat’accompanied by ἐνέργειανenergeian[the] working τοῦtou- ΣατανᾶSatanaof Satan , ἐνenwith πάσῃpasēevery kind of δυνάμειdynameipower , καὶkai- σημείοιςsēmeioissign , καὶkaiand τέρασιterasiwonders , ψεύδουςpseudousfalse
10καὶkaiand ἐνenwith πάσῃpasēevery ἀπάτῃapatēdeception τῆςtēsof the ἀδικίαςadikiaswicked ἐνenwith τοῖςtoisdirected against those who ἀπολλυμένοιςapollymenoisare perishing , ἀνθ’anth’because ὧνhōn. . . τὴνtēnthe ἀγάπηνagapēnlove τῆςtēsof the ἀληθείαςalētheiastruth οὐκoukvvv ἐδέξαντοedexantothey refused εἰςeisthat would have τὸto- σωθῆναιsōthēnaisaved αὐτούςautousthem .
11καὶkai- διὰdiaFor this reason τοῦτοtouto. . . πέμψειpempseiwill send αὐτοῖςautoisthem ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod ἐνέργειανenergeiana powerful πλάνηςplanēsdelusion εἰςeisso that τὸto- πιστεῦσαιpisteusaibelieve αὐτοὺςautousthey τὸto- ψεύδειpseudei[the] lie ,
12ἵναhinain order that κριθῶσιkrithosijudgment may come upon πάντεςpantesall οἱhoiwho μὴmēvvv πιστεύσαντεςpisteusanteshave disbelieved τῇtēthe ἀληθείᾳalētheiatruth ἀλλ’all’Instead , εὐδοκήσαντεςeudokēsantesdelighted ἐνenby τῇtē- ἀδικίᾳadikiain wickedness .
13ἩμεῖςHēmeiswe δὲdeBut ὀφείλομενopheilomenshould εὐχαριστεῖνeucharisteinthank τῷtō- ΘεῷTheōGod πάντοτεpantotealways περὶperifor ὑμῶνhymōnyou , ἀδελφοὶadelphoibrothers ἠγαπημένοιēgapēmenoiwho are loved ὑπὸhypoby ΚυρίουKyriou[the] Lord , ὅτιhotibecause εἵλετοeiletohas chosen ὑμᾶςhymasyou ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod ἀπ’ap’by ἀρχῆςarchēs[the] beginning εἰςeisto σωτηρίανsōtērianbe saved ἐνenby ἁγιασμῷhagiasmō[the] sanctification ΠνεύματοςPneumatosof [the] Spirit καὶkaiand πίστειpistei[by] faith ἀληθείαςalētheiasin [the] truth .
14εἰςeisTo ὃhothis ἐκάλεσενekalesenHe called ὑμᾶςhymasyou διὰdiathrough τοῦtou- εὐαγγελίουeuangeliougospel , ἡμῶνhēmōnour εἰςeisso that περιποίησινperipoiēsinyou may share in δόξηςdoxēs[the] glory τοῦtou- ΚυρίουKyriouLord ἡμῶνhēmōnof our ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist .
15ἌραAraTherefore οὖνoun. . . , ἀδελφοίadelphoibrothers , στήκετεstēketestand firm καὶkaiand κρατεῖτεkrateitecling τὰςtasto the παραδόσειςparadoseistraditions ἃςhas- ἐδιδάχθητεedidachthētetaught you , εἴτεeitewhether διὰdiaby λόγουlogouspeech εἴτεeiteor δι’di’by ἐπιστολῆςepistolēsletter . ἡμῶνhēmōnour
16ΑὐτὸςAutosHimself δὲdeNow {may} ὁho- ΚύριοςKyriosLord ἡμῶνhēmōnour ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ΧριστὸςChristosChrist καὶkaiand ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod καὶkaiand ΠατὴρPatērFather , ἡμῶνhēmōnour ὁho- ἀγαπήσαςagapēsashas loved ἡμᾶςhēmasus καὶkaiand δοὺςdousgiven [us] παράκλησινparaklēsincomfort αἰωνίανaiōnianeternal καὶkaiand ἐλπίδαelpidahope , ἀγαθὴνagathēngood ἐνenin χάριτιcharitigrace
17παρακαλέσαιparakalesaiencourage ὑμῶνhymōnyour τὰςtas- καρδίαςkardiashearts καὶkaiand στηρίξαιstērixaistrengthen [you] ὑμᾶςhymasyou ἐνenby παντὶpantievery λόγῳlogōword καὶkaiand ἔργῳergōdeed . ἀγαθῷagathōgood
