2καὶkai- εὑρόντεςheurontesFinding πλοῖονploiona ship διαπερῶνdiaperōncrossing over εἰςeisto ΦοινίκηνPhoinikēnPhoenicia , ἐπιβάντεςepibanteswe boarded [it] ἀνήχθημενanēchthēmen[and] set sail .

3ἀναφάναντεςanaphanantessighting δὲde[After] τὴνtēn- ΚύπρονKypronCyprus καὶkaiand καταλιπόντεςkatalipontespassing south of it αὐτὴνautēn. . . εὐώνυμονeuōnymon. . . , ἐπλέομενepleomenwe sailed on εἰςeisto ΣυρίανSyrianSyria καὶkaiand κατήχθημενkatēchthēmenwe landed εἰςeisat ΤύρονTyronTyre , ἐκεῖσεekeise[where] γὰρgar- ἦνēnwas τὸtothe πλοῖονploionship ἀποφορτιζόμενονapophortizomenonto unload τὸνton[its] γόμονgomoncargo .

4καὶkaiand ἈνευρόντεςAneurontesWe sought out τοὺςtousthe μαθητὰςmathētasdisciples ἐπεμείναμενepemeinamen[and] stayed [with them] αὐτοῦautou[in Tyre] ἡμέραςhēmerasdays . ἑπτάheptaseven οἵτινεςhoitines[they] τῷtō- ΠαύλῳPaulōPaul ἔλεγονelegonkept telling διὰdiaThrough τοῦtouthe ΠνεύματοςPneumatosSpirit μὴmēnot ἀναβαίνεινanabaineinto go up εἰςeisto ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem .

5ὅτεhotewhen δὲdeBut ἐγένετοegeneto- ἡμᾶςhēmasour ἐξαρτίσαιexartisaihad ended , τὰςtas- ἡμέραςhēmerastime [there] ἐξελθόντεςexelthonteswe set out ἐπορευόμεθαeporeuomethaon our journey . προπεμπόντωνpropempontōnaccompanied ἡμᾶςhēmasus πάντωνpantōnAll [the disciples] , σὺνsynwith γυναιξὶgynaixi[their] wives καὶkaiand τέκνοιςteknoischildren , ἕωςheōsvvv ἔξωexōout of τῆςtēsthe πόλεωςpoleōscity καὶkaiand θέντεςthentesknelt down τὰta. . . γόναταgonata. . . ἐπὶepion τὸνtonthe αἰγιαλὸνaigialonbeach προσηυξάμεθα,proseuxamethato pray [with us] .

6καὶkai- ἀσπασάμενοιaspasamenoiwe greeted ἀλλήλουςallēlous. . . , ἐπέβημενepebemenwe went aboard εἰςeis. . . τὸtothe πλοῖονploionship , ἐκεῖνοιekeinoithey δὲdeand ὑπέστρεψανhypestrepsanreturned εἰςeisvvv τὰtavvv ἴδιαidiahome .

7ἩμεῖςHēmeiswe δὲde[When] τὸνton[our] πλοῦνplounvoyage διανύσαντεςdianysanteswe had finished ἀπὸapofrom ΤύρουTyrouTyre , κατηντήσαμενkatēntēsamenlanded εἰςeisat ΠτολεμαΐδαPtolemaidaPtolemais , καὶkai[where] ἀσπασάμενοιaspasamenoiwe greeted τοὺςtousthe ἀδελφοὺςadelphousbrothers ἐμείναμενemeinamen[and] stayed ἡμέρανhēmeranday . μίανmianfor a παρ’par’with αὐτοῖςautoisthem

9τούτῳtoutō[He] δὲde- ἦσανēsanhad θυγατέρεςthygateresdaughters παρθένοιparthenoiunmarried τέσσαρεςtessaresfour προφητεύουσαιprophēteuousaiwho prophesied .

10ἘπιμενόντωνEpimenontōnwe had been there δὲdeAfter ἡμῶνhēmōnWhen we ἡμέραςhēmerasdays , πλείουςpleiousseveral κατῆλθέkateltheHe went down τιςtisa ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēs- ἸουδαίαςIoudaiasJudea . προφήτηςprophētēsprophet ὀνόματιonomatinamed ἍγαβοςHagabosAgabus

11καὶkai- ἐλθὼνelthōnComing over πρὸςprosto ἡμᾶςhēmasus , καὶkai- ἄραςarashe took τὴνtēn- ζώνηνzōnēnbelt , τοῦtou- ΠαύλουPaulouPaul’s δήσαςdēsasbound τεte- αὐτοῦautouhe τοὺςtous[own] πόδαςpodasfeet καὶkaiand τὰςtas- χεῖραςcheirashands , εἰπὲeipesay ΤάδεTade“ - λέγειlegeisays : τὸto- ΠνεῦμαPneumaSpirit τὸto- ἍγιονHagionHoly ΤὸνTonthe ἄνδραandraowner of οὗhou. . . ἐστινestin. . . ἡhē- ζώνηzōnēbelt αὕτηhautēthis οὕτωhoutōso δήσουσινdēsousinwill bind εἰςeis. . . 12ὡςhōsWhen δὲde- ἠκούσαμενēkousamenwe heard ταῦταtautathis , παρεκαλοῦμενparekaloumenpleaded with ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe τεte- καὶkaiand οἱhoithe [people] ἐντόπιοιentopioithere τοῦtou- μὴmēnot ἀναβαίνεινanabaineinto go up αὐτὸνauton[Paul] εἰςeisto ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmJerusalem .

13ἀπεκρίθηapekrithēanswered , τεte- ὁho- ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul ΤίTi“ Why ποιεῖτεpoieiteare you κλαίοντεςklaiontesweeping καὶkaiand συνθρύπτοντέςsynthryptontesbreaking μουmoumy τὴνtēn- καρδίανkardianheart ? ἐγὼegōI γὰρgar- οὐounot μόνονmonononly δεθῆναιdethēnaito be bound , ἀλλὰallabut καὶkaialso ἀποθανεῖνapothaneinto die εἰςeisin ἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēmJerusalem ἑτοίμωςhetoimōsready ἔχωechōam ὑπὲρhyperfor τοῦtouthe ὀνόματοςonomatosname τοῦtouof the ΚυρίουKyriouLord ἸησοῦIēsouJesus . ”

14μὴmēvvv πειθομένουpeithomenouwould not be dissuaded , δὲde[When] αὐτοῦautouhe ἡσυχάσαμενhēsychasamenwe fell silent εἰπόντεςeipontes[and] said , τὸto“ The θέλημαthelēmawill ΤοῦTouvvv ΚυρίουKyriouLord’s γινέσθωginesthōbe done . ”

15ΜετὰMetaAfter δὲde- τὰςtas- ἡμέραςhēmerasdays , ταύταςtautasthese ἐπισκευασάμενοιepiskeuasamenoiwe packed up ἀνεβαίνομενanebainomen[and] went on εἰςeisto ἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēmJerusalem

16συνῆλθονsynēlthonaccompanied δὲde- καὶkai- τῶνtōn[Some] of the μαθητῶνmathētōndisciples ἀπὸapofrom ΚαισαρείαςKaisareiasCaesarea σὺνsyn. . . ἡμῖνhēminus , ἄγοντεςagontes[and] they took us παρ’par’vvv ᾧhōvvv ξενισθῶμενxenisthōmento stay at the home ΜνάσωνίMnasōniof Mnason τινιtini- ΚυπρίῳKypriō[the] Cypriot , ἀρχαίῳarchaiōan early μαθητῇmathētēdisciple .

17ΓενομένωνGenomenōnarrived δὲde- ἡμῶνhēmōnWhen we εἰςeisin ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem , ἀσμένωςasmenōsjoyfully . ἐδέξαντοedexanto[the people there] refused to welcome ἡμᾶςhēmasus οἱhoithe ἀδελφοίadelphoibrothers

18τῇtēThe δὲde- ἐπιούσῃepiousēnext [day] εἰσῄειeisēeiwent in ὁho- ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul σὺνsynwith ἡμῖνhēminus πρὸςprosto [see] ἸάκωβονIakōbonJames , πάντεςpantesall τεteand παρεγένοντοparegenontowere present . οἱhoithe πρεσβύτεροιpresbyteroielders

19καὶkai- ἀσπασάμενοςaspasamenos[Paul] greeted αὐτοὺςautousthem ἐξηγεῖτοexēgeito[and] recounted καθ’kath’by ἓνhenone ἕκαστονhekastonone ὧνhōnthe things that ἐποίησενepoiēsenhad done ὁho- ΘεὸςTheosGod ἐνenamong τοῖςtoisthe ἔθνεσιethnesiGentiles διὰdiathrough τῆςtēs- διακονίαςdiakoniasministry . αὐτοῦautouhis

20ΟἱHoi- δὲde- ἀκούσαντεςakousantesWhen they heard [this] , ἐδόξαζονedoxazonthey glorified τὸνton- ΚύριονKyrion[the] Lord εἶπόν*eiponthey said τεteThen αὐτῷautōto [Paul] , ΘεωρεῖςTheōreis“ You see , ἀδελφέadelphebrother , πόσαιposaihow many μυριάδεςmyriadesthousands εἰσὶνeisin- ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJewish τῶνtōn- πεπιστευκότωνpepisteukotōnhave believed , καὶkaiand πάντεςpantesall ζηλωταὶzēlōtaizealous τοῦtoufor the νόμουnomoulaw . ὑπάρχουσι.uparkhousipossessions .

21κατηχήθησανkatēchēthēsanthey are under the impression δὲdeBut περὶperi. . . σοῦsouyou ὅτιhotithat ἀποστασίανapostasianto forsake διδάσκειςdidaskeisteach ἀπὸapo. . . ΜωϋσέωςMōuseōsMoses , τοὺςtouswho [live] κατὰkataamong τὰtathe ἔθνηethnēGentiles πάνταςpantasall ἸουδαίουςIoudaious[the] Jews λέγωνlegōntelling μὴmēnot περιτέμνεινperitemneinto circumcise αὐτοὺςautousthem τὰta[their] τέκναteknachildren μηδὲmēde[or] τοῖςtois. . . ἔθεσιethesicustoms περιπατεῖνperipateinobserve

22τίtiWhat οὖνounthen ἐστίestiI have πάντωςpantōsvvv ΔεῖDeimust πλῆθοςplēthoscrowd συνελθεῖνsyneltheinto accompany ἀκούσονταιakousontaiThey will certainly hear γὰρgar- ὅτιhotithat ἐλήλυθαςelēlythasyou have come .

23ΤοῦτοToutovvv οὖνounTherefore ποίησονpoiēsondo ὅhowhat σοιsoiyou . λέγομενlegomenwe advise εἰσὶνeisinThere are ἡμῖνhēminwith us ἄνδρεςandresmen τέσσαρεςtessaresfour εὐχὴνeuchēna vow . ἔχοντεςechonteswho have taken ἐφ’eph’vvv ἑαυτῶνheautōnvvv

24τούτουςtoutousthese [men] , παραλαβὼνparalabōnTake ἁγνίσθητιhagnisthētipurify yourself σὺνsynalong with αὐτοῖςautoisthem , καὶkaiand δαπάνησονdapanēsonpay their expenses ἐπ’ep’. . . αὐτοῖςautois. . . ἵναhinaso ξυρήσονταιxyrēsontaishaved . τὴνtēn{they can have} [their] κεφαλήνkephalēnheads καὶkaiThen γνώσιgnosithe knowledge πάντεςpanteseveryone ὅτιhotithat ὧνhōn[to these] κατήχηνταιkatēchēntairumors περὶperiabout σοῦsouyou , οὐδένoudenis no truth ἐστινestinthere ἀλλὰallabut [that] στοιχεῖςstoicheislive καὶkaialso αὐτὸςautosyou τὸνtonto the νόμονnomonlaw . φυλάσσωνphylassōnin obedience

25ΠερὶPeriAs for δὲde- τῶνtōnthe πεπιστευκότωνpepisteukotōnbelievers , ἐθνῶνethnōnGentile ἡμεῖςhēmeiswe ἐπεστείλαμενepesteilamenhave written [to them] κρίναντεςkrinantesour decision μηδὲνmēden. . . . τοιούτωνtoioutōnsuch as these . τηρεῖνtēreinto guard αὐτοὺςautous[that] they ΕἰEi“ vvv μὴmēvvv φυλάσσεσθαιphylassesthaimust abstain αὐτοὺςautous[that] they τόtofrom [food] τεte- εἰδωλόθυτονeidōlothytonsacrificed to idols , καὶkai[from] τόtofrom [food] αἷμαhaimablood , καὶkai[from] πνικτὸνpniktonthe meat of strangled animals , καὶkaiand [from] πορνείανporneiansexual immorality . ”

26ΤότεTote[So] ὁho- ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul παραλαβὼνparalabōntook τοὺςtousthe ἄνδραςandrasmen τῇtēthe ἐχομένῃechomenēnext ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday σὺνsynalong with αὐτοῖςautoisthem . ἁγνισθεὶςhagnistheis[and] purified himself εἰσῄειeisēei[Then] he entered εἰςeis. . . τὸtothe ἱερόνhierontemple διαγγέλλωνdiangellōnto give notice τὴνtēn- ἐκπλήρωσινekplērōsinwould be complete τῶνtōnof the ἡμερῶνhēmerōndate τοῦtou[when their] ἁγνισμοῦhagnismoupurification ἕωςheōs[and] οὗhou- προσηνέχθηprosēnechthēwould be made ὑπὲρhyperfor ἑνὸςhenos. . . ἑκάστουhekastoueach αὐτῶνautōnof them . ἡhēthe προσφοράprosphoraoffering

27ὩςHōsWhen δὲde- ἔμελλονemellonwere almost αἱhaithe ἑπτὰheptaseven ἡμέραιhēmeraidays συντελεῖσθαιsynteleisthaiover , οἱhoi[some] ἀπὸapofrom τῆςtēs- ἈσίαςAsias[the province of] Asia ἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiJews θεασάμενοιtheasamenoisaw αὐτὸνauton[Paul] ἐνenat τῷtōthe ἱερῷhierōtemple . συνέχεονsynecheonThey stirred up πάνταpantawhole τὸνtonthe ὄχλονochloncrowd καὶkaiand ἐπέβαλον*epebalonseized τὰςtas. . . χεῖραςcheiras. . . ἐπ’ep’. . . αὐτὸνautonhim ,

28κράζοντεςkrazontescrying out , ἌνδρεςAndres“ Men ἸσραηλῖταιIsraēlitai[of] Israel , βοηθεῖτεboētheitehelp us ! οὗτόςhoutosThis ἐστινestinis ὁhothe ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman ὁhowho κατὰkataagainst τοῦtou[our] λαοῦlaoupeople καὶkaiand τοῦtou[against our] νόμουnomoulaw καὶkaiand τοῦtou- τόπουtopouplace . τούτουtoutou[against] this πάνταςpantasvvv πανταχοῦpantachoueverywhere . διδάσκωνdidaskōnteaches ἔτιeti. . . τεteFurthermore καὶkai. . . , ἝλληναςHellēnasGreeks εἰσήγαγενeisēgagenhe has brought εἰςeisinto τὸtothe ἱερὸνhierontemple καὶkaiand κεκοίνωκεkekoinokedefiled τὸνton- ἅγιονhagionholy τόπονtoponplace . ” τοῦτονtoutonthis

29ἦσανēsanthey had γὰρgarFor ἑωρακότεςheōrakotesThey had seen ΤρόφιμονTrophimonTrophimus τὸνtonthe ἘφέσιονEphesionEphesian ἐνenin τῇtēthe πόλειpoleicity , σὺνsynwith αὐτῷautōhim ὃνhon[him] ἐνόμιζονenomizon[and] they assumed ὅτιhotithat εἰςeisinto τὸtothe ἱερὸνhierontemple . εἰσήγαγενeisēgagenhad brought ὁho- ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul

30ἘκινήθηEkinēthēwas stirred up , τεte- ἡhēThe πόλιςpoliscity ὅληholēwhole καὶkaiand ἐγένετοegenetovvv συνδρομὴsyndromērushed together . τοῦtou- λαοῦlaoupeople καὶkaiand ἐπιλαβόμενοιepilabomenoiThey seized τοῦtou- ΠαύλουPaulouPaul εἷλκονheilkon[and] dragged αὐτὸνautonhim ἔξωexōout of τοῦtouthe ἱεροῦhieroutemple , καὶkaiand εὐθέωςeutheōsat once ἐκλείσθησανekleisthēsanwere shut . αἱhaithe θύραιthyraigates

31ΖητούντωνZētountōnthey were trying δὲde- αὐτὸνautonhim , ἀποκτεῖναιapokteinaito kill ἀνέβηanebēreceived φάσιςphasisa report τῷtōthe χιλιάρχῳchiliarchōcommander τῆςtēsof the σπείρηςspeirēs[Roman] regiment ὅτιhotithat ὅληholēall συγκέχυταιsugkekhutaiwas in turmoil . ἸερουσαλήμIerousalēmJerusalem

32ὃςhos- ἐξαυτῆςexautēsImmediately παραλαβὼνparalabōnhe took στρατιώταςstratiōtas[some] soldiers καὶkaiand ἑκατοντάρχουςekatontarkhouscenturions κατέδραμενkatedramen[and] ran down ἐπ’ep’to αὐτούςautous[the crowd] . οἱhoi- δὲde- ἰδόντεςidontes[When the people] saw τὸνtonthe χιλίαρχονchiliarchoncommander καὶkaiand τοὺςtousthe στρατιώταςstratiōtassoldiers , ἐπαύσαντοepausantothey stopped τύπτοντεςtyptontesbeating τὸνton- ΠαῦλονPaulonPaul .

33ἐγγίσαςengisascame up δὲde- ὁhoThe χιλίαρχοςchiliarchoscommander ἐπελάβετοepelabeto[and] arrested αὐτοῦautou[Paul] , καὶkai- ἐκέλευσενekeleusenordering that δεθῆναιdethēnaihe be bound ἁλύσεσιhalysesichains . δυσίdysiwith two καὶkaiThen ἐπυνθάνετοepynthanetohe asked τίςtiswho ἂνan. . . εἴηeiēhe was καὶkaiand τίtiwhat ἐστίestiI have πεποιηκώςpepoiēkōshe had done .

34ἌλλοιAlloi[some] δὲde[and] ἄλλοalloanother . τιtione thing , ἐβόωνeboonthey kept shouting ἐνen[Some] in τῷtōthe ὄχλῳochlōcrowd μὴmēvvv δυνάμενοςdynamenosunable δὲdeAnd [since] γνῶναιgnōnaiget at τὸtothe ἀσφαλὲςasphalestruth διὰdiabecause of τὸνtonthe θόρυβονthorybonuproar , ἐκέλευσενekeleusenhe ordered that ἄγεσθαιagesthaibe brought αὐτὸνauton[Paul] εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe παρεμβολήνparembolēnbarracks .

35ὅτεhoteWhen δὲde- ἐγένετοegeneto[Paul] reached ἐπὶepi. . . τοὺςtousthe ἀναβαθμούςanabathmoussteps , συνέβηsynebē- βαστάζεσθαιbastazesthaihad to be carried αὐτὸνautonhe ὑπὸhypoby τῶνtōnthe στρατιωτῶνstratiōtōnsoldiers διὰdiabecause of τὴνtēnthe βίανbianviolence τοῦtouof the ὄχλουochloumob .

36ἠκολούθειēkoloutheithat followed [him] γὰρgarFor τὸtothe πλῆθοςplēthoscrowd τοῦtou. . . λαοῦlaou. . . κράζωνkrazōncrying out ΑἶρεAire“ Away with αὐτόνautonhim ! ”

37ΜέλλωνMellōnthey were about τεte[As] εἰσάγεσθαιeisagesthaito take εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe παρεμβολὴνparembolēnbarracks , ὁho- ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul λέγειlegeihe asked τῷtōthe χιλιάρχῳchiliarchōcommander , ΕἰEi“ vvv ἔξεστίexestiis unlawful μοιmoiI εἰπεῖνeipeinsay τιtisomething πρὸςprosto σέseyou ? ” ὉHo[he] δὲde- ἔφηephēreplied . ἙλληνιστὶHellēnistiGreek ? ” γινώσκειςginōskeis“ Do you speak

38οὐκouk. . . ἄραara“ - σὺsyyou εἶeiAren’t ὁhothe ΑἰγύπτιοςAigyptiosEgyptian ὁhowho πρὸprosome time ago τούτωνtoutōn. . . τῶνtōn. . . ἡμερῶνhēmerōn. . . ἀναστατώσαςanastatōsasincited a rebellion καὶkaiand ἐξαγαγὼνexagagōnled εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe ἔρημονerēmonwilderness ? ” τοὺςtous- τετρακισχιλίουςtetrakischiliousfour thousand ἄνδραςandrasmembers τῶνtōnof the ΣικαρίωνSikariōn‘ Assassins ’

39εἰπὲeipesay δὲdeBut ὁho- ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul ἘγὼEgō“ I ἄνθρωποςanthrōpos. . . μένmen- εἰμιeimiam ἸουδαῖοςIoudaiosa Jew ΤαρσεὺςTarseusfrom Tarsus τῆςtēs- ΚιλικίαςKilikiasin Cilicia , οὐκoukno ἀσήμουasēmouordinary πόλεωςpoleōscity . πολίτηςpolitēsa citizen [of] δέομαιdeomaiI beg δέdeNow σουsouyou ἐπίτρεψόνepitrepsonto allow μοιmoime λαλῆσαιlalēsaito speak πρὸςprosto τὸνtonthe λαόνlaonpeople . ”

40ἐπιτρέψαντοςepitrepsantosHaving received permission , δὲde- αὐτοῦautouvvv ὁho- ΠαῦλοςPaulosPaul ἑστὼςhestōsstood ἐπὶepion τῶνtōnthe ἀναβαθμῶνanabathmōnsteps κατέσειεkateseie[and] motioned τῇtē- χειρὶcheiri- . τῷtōto the λαῷlaōcrowd πολλῆςpollēsA great δὲde- σιγῆςsigēshush γενομένηςgenomenēscame over [the crowd] , προσεφώνησεprosephoneseHe called τῇtēin ἙβραΐδιHebraidiHebrew διαλέκτῳdialektō. . . λέγωνlegōn. . . :
