3καὶkai- ἐζήτειezēteiHe was trying ἰδεῖνideinto see τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus τίςtiswho ἐστι,estiis καὶkai- οὐκoukvvv ἠδύνατοēdynatocould not [see] ἀπὸapoover τοῦtouthe ὄχλουochloucrowd ὅτιhotibecause τῇ- ἡλικίᾳhēlikiain stature . μικρὸςmikrossmall ἦνēnhe was
4καὶkaiSo προδραμὼνprodramōnhe ran ἔμπροσθενemprosthenahead ἀνέβηanebē[and] climbed ἐπὶepi. . . συκομορέανsykomoreana sycamore tree ἵναhinato ἴδῃidēsee αὐτόνautonHim , ὅτιhotisince δι’di’vvv ἐκείνηςekeinēsthat [way] . ἤμελλεemelleHe was about διέρχεσθαιdierchesthaito pass
5ΚαὶKaiWhen ὡςhōs. . . ἦλθενēlthen[Jesus] came ἐπὶepito τὸνtonthat τόπονtoponplace ἀναβλέψαςanablepsaslooked up ho- , ἸησοῦςIēsous[He] εἶδενeidensaw αὐτόνauton. . . , ΚαὶKaiWhen εἶπενeipen[and] said πρὸςpros. . . αὐτόνauton. . . , ΖακχαῖεZakchaie“ Zacchaeus , σπεύσαςspeusashurry κατάβηθιkatabēthidown , σήμερονsēmerontoday . ” γὰρgarfor ἐνenat τῷ- οἴκῳoikōhouse σουsouyour δεῖdeimust μεmeI μεῖναιmeinaistay
6ΚαὶKaiSo σπεύσαςspeusas[Zacchaeus] hurried κατέβηkatebēdown καὶkaiand ὑπεδέξατοhypedexatowelcomed αὐτὸνautonHim χαίρωνchairōnjoyfully .
7καὶkaiAnd ἰδόντεςidontessaw [this] πάντεςpantesall [who] διεγόγγυζονdiegongyzonbegan to grumble , λέγοντεςlegontessaying , ὅτιhoti- ΠαρὰParaof ἁμαρτωλῷhamartōlōa sinful ἀνδρὶandriman ! ” εἰσέλθῃeiselthēwill never enter καταλῦσαιkatalysaito be the guest
8ΣταθεὶςStatheisstood up δὲdeBut ΖακχαῖοςZakchaiosZacchaeus εἰπὲeipesay πρὸςprosto τὸνtonthe ΚύριονKyrionLord , ἸδοὺIdou“ Look , τὰta- ἡμίσηemisehalf τῶνtōnof ὑπαρχόντωνhyparchontōnpossessions μουmoumy ΚύριεKyrieLord , δίδωμιdidōmiI give τοῖςtoisto the πτωχοῖςptōchoispoor , καὶkaiand εἴeiif τινόςtinosanyone , τιtivvv ἐσυκοφάντησαesykophantēsaI have cheated ἀποδίδωμιapodidōmiI will repay [it] τετραπλοῦνtetraplounfourfold . ”
9εἰπὲeipesay δὲde- πρὸςprosto αὐτὸνautonhim , ho- ἸησοῦςIēsousJesus ὅτιhoti- ΣήμερονSēmeron“ Today σωτηρίαsōtēriasalvation τῷ- οἴκῳoikōhouse , τούτῳtoutōto this ἐγένετοegenetohas come καθότιkathotibecause καὶkaitoo αὐτὸςautos[this man] υἱὸςhuiosa son ἈβραάμAbraamof Abraham . ἐστινestinis
10ἔλθῃelthēshould come γὰρgarFor hothe ΥἱὸςHuiosSon τοῦtou- ἀνθρώπουanthrōpouof Man ζητῆσαιzētēsaito seek καὶkaiand σῶσαιsōsaito save τὸtothe ἀπολωλόςapolōloslost . ”
11ἈκουόντωνAkouontōnwere listening to δὲdeWhile αὐτῶνautōn[the people] ταῦταtauta[this] , προσθεὶςprostheis[Jesus] proceeded εἰπὲeipesay παραβολὴνparabolēna parable , διὰdiabecause τὸto- ἐγγὺςengysnear αὐτὸνautonHe εἶναιeinaiwas ἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēmJerusalem καὶkaiand δοκεῖνdokeinthought αὐτοὺςautousthey ὅτιhoti- παραχρῆμαparachrēmaimminently . μέλλειmelleiwould the βασιλείαbasileiakingdom τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouof God ἀναφαίνεσθαιanaphainesthaiappear
12εἶπενeipenHe said , οὖνounSo ἌνθρωπόςAnthrōposman τιςtis“ A εὐγενὴςeugenēsof noble birth ἐπορεύθηeporeuthēwent εἰςeisto χώρανchōrancountry μακρὰνmakrana distant λαβεῖνlabeinto lay claim ἑαυτῷheautōto his βασιλείανbasileiankingship καὶkaiand then ὑποστρέψαιhypostrepsaireturn .
13καλέσαςkalesas[he] called δὲdeBeforehand , δέκαdekaten δούλουςdoulousservants ἑαυτοῦheautouof his ἔδωκενedōken[and] gave αὐτοῖςautoisthem δέκαdekaten μνᾶςmnasminas . καὶkai- εἰπὲeipesay πρὸςpros- αὐτούςautous- . ΠραγματεύσασθεPragmateusasthe‘ Conduct business [with this] ἐνenuntil - ἔρχομαιerchomaiI return , ’
14ΟἱHoi- δὲdeBut πολῖταιpolitaisubjects αὐτοῦautouhis ἐμίσουνemisounhated αὐτόνautonhim καὶkaiand ἀπέστειλανapesteilansent πρεσβείανpresbeiana delegation ὀπίσωopisōafter αὐτοῦautouhim λέγοντεςlegontesto say , ΟὐOuvvv θέλομενthelomen‘ We do not want τοῦτονtoutonthis [man] βασιλεῦσαιbasileusaito rule ἐφ’eph’over ἡμᾶςhēmasus . ’
15ΚαὶKaiWhen ἐγένετοegeneto. . . ἐνen. . . τῷ- ἐπανελθεῖνepaneltheinreturned αὐτὸνautonhe λαβόνταlabontafrom procuring τὴνtēn[his] βασιλείανbasileiankingship , καὶkai- εἰπὲeipesay φωνηθῆναιphōnēthēnai. . . αὐτῷautō. . . τοὺςtous- δούλουςdoulousservants τούτουςtoutous[the] οἷςhoisto whom ἔδωκεedokegave [it] τὸtothe ἀργύριονargyrionmoney , ἵναhinato ἐπιγνῷepignofind out τιςtis“ A τιtivvv διεπραγματεύσατο.diepragmateusatohad earned .
16ΠαρεγένετοParegenetocame forward δὲde- hoThe πρῶτοςprōtosfirst [servant] λέγωνlegōn[and] said , ΚύριεKyrie‘ Master , - μνᾶmnamina σουsouyour προσειργάσατοproseirgasatohas produced δέκαdekaten μνᾶςmnas{more} minas . ’
17ΚαὶKai- εἶπενeipen[His master] replied αὐτῷautō. . . , εὖ,eu‘ Well done , ἀγαθὲagathegood δοῦλεdouleservant ! ὅτιhotiBecause ἐνenin ἐλαχίστῳelachistōa very small matter , πιστὸςpistosfaithful ἐγένουegenouyou have been ἴσθιisthiyou ἐξουσίανexousianauthority ἔχωνechōnshall have ἐπάνωepanōover δέκαdekaten πόλεωνpoleōncities . ’
18ΚαὶKai- ἦλθενēlthencame hoThe δεύτεροςdeuterossecond [servant] λέγωνlegōn[and] said , κύριεkyrie‘ Master , - μνᾶmnamina σουsouyour ἐποίησεepoiesehas done πέντεpentefive μνᾶςmnasminas . ’
19εἰπὲeipesay δὲdeAnd καὶkai. . . τούτῳtoutōto this one καὶkai. . . σὺsy‘ You γίνουginoushall [have authority] ἐπάνωepanōover πέντεpentefive πόλεωνpoleōncities . ’
20ΚαὶKaiThen ἕτεροςheterosanother [servant] ἔλθῃelthēshould come λέγωνlegōn[and] said , ΚύριεKyrie‘ Master , ἰδοὺidouhere is - μνᾶmnamina , σουsouyour ἣνhēnwhich εἶχονeichonI have laid away ἀποκειμένηνapokeimenēn. . . ἐνenin σουδαρίῳsoudariōa piece of cloth .
21ἐφοβούμηνephoboumēnI was afraid of γάρgarFor σεseyou , ὅτιhotibecause ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman . αὐστηρὸςaustērosa harsh εἶeiyou are αἴρειςaireisYou withdraw howhat οὐκoukvvv ἔθηκαςethēkasyou did not deposit καὶkaiand θερίζειςtherizeisreap howhat οὐκoukvvv ἔσπειραςespeirasyou did not sow . ’ καὶkaiand συνάγειςsunageisto gather ὅθενhothenvvv ΟὐOuvvv διεσκόρπισας.dieskorpisasHe has scattered
22ΛέγειLegei[His master] replied αὐτῷautō. . . , ἘκEkby τοῦtou- στόματόςstomatos[own words] . σουsouyour κρίνωkrinōI will judge σεseyou πονηρὲponēre‘ [You] wicked δοῦλεdouleservant , ᾔδειςēdeis[So] you knew ὅτιhotithat ἄνθρωποςanthrōposman , αὐστηρόςaustērosa harsh εἰμιeimiam ἐγὼegōI αἴρωνairōnwithdrawing howhat οὐκoukvvv ἔθηκαethēkaI did not deposit καὶkaiand θερίζωνtherizōnreaping howhat οὐκoukvvv ἔσπειραespeiraI did not sow ? καὶkaithen συνάγωνsynagōndoes not gather ὅθενhothenvvv ΟὐOuvvv διεσκόρπισα.dieskorpisaHe has scattered
23ΚαὶKaiWhen διατίdiatiwhy οὐκoukvvv ἔδωκάςedōkasdid you not deposit τὸto- ἀργύριονargyrionmoney μουmoumy ἐπὶepiin τὴνtēnthe τράπεζανtrapezan[the] bank , καὶkaithen ἐγὼegōI ἐλθὼνelthōnupon my return σὺνsynwith τόκῳtokōinterest ? ’ ἂνan. . . ἔπραξαepraxaI could have collected αὐτὸautoit
24ΚαὶKaiThen τοῖςtoisthose παρεστῶσινparestōsinstanding by , εἶπενeipenhe told ἌρατεArate‘ Take ἀπ’ap’from αὐτοῦautouhim τὴνtēnthe μνᾶνmnanmina καὶkaiand δότεdotegive [it] τῷto the [one who] τὰςtas- δέκαdekaten μνᾶςmnasminas . ’ ἔχοντιechontihas
25καὶkaiand εἰπὼνeipōn[Jesus] had said αὐτῷautō- , ΚύριεKyrie‘ Master , ’ ἔχειechei‘ he [already] has δέκαdekaten μνᾶςmnas- ! ’ ΛέγωLegō[He replied,] ‘ I tell
26γάρgarFor ὑμῖνhyminyou ὅτιhotithat παντὶpantieveryone τῷwho ἔχοντιechontihas δοθήσεταιdothēsetaiwill be given [more] ; ἀπὸapofrom [him] . δὲdebut τοῦtouthe [one who] μὴ{does} not ἔχοντοςechontoshave , καὶkaieven howhat ἔχειecheihe has ἀρθήσεταιarthēsetaiwill be taken away ἀπ’ap’from αὐτοῦautouhim
27πλὴνplēnAnd τοὺςtous- ἐχθρούςechthrousenemies μουmouof mine ἐκείνουςekeinous[the pigs] , τοὺςtouswho μὴvvv θελήσαντάςthelēsantaswere unwilling [for] μεmeme βασιλεῦσαιbasileusaito rule ἐπ’ep’over αὐτοὺςautousthem , ἀγάγετεagagetebring [them] ὧδεhōdehere καὶkaiand κατασφάξατεkatasphaxateslay αὐτοὺςautousthem ἔμπροσθένemprosthenin front of μουmoume . ’”
28ΚαὶKaiAfter εἰπὼνeipōn[Jesus] had said ταῦταtautathis , ἐπορεύετοeporeuetoHe went on ἔμπροσθενemprosthenahead , ἀναβαίνωνanabainōngoing up εἰςeisto ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem .
29ΚαὶKai- ἐγένετοegenetovvv ὡςhōsAs ἤγγισενēngisenHe approached εἰςeis. . . ΒηθσφαγὴbethsphageBethphage καὶkaiand ΒηθανίανBēthanianBethany πρὸςprosat τὸtothe ὄροςorosMount τὸto- καλούμενονkaloumenonof ἘλαιῶνElaiōnOlives , ἀπέστειλεapesteileHe sent them out δύοdyotwo τῶνtōnof [His] μαθητῶνmathētōndisciples , αὐτοῦautouit . ’”
30εἰπὼνeipōn[Jesus] had said ὙπάγετεHypagete“ Go εἰςeisinto τὴνtēnthe κατέναντιkatenantiahead [of you] , κώμηνkōmēnvillage ἐνenvvv vvv εἰσπορευόμενοιeisporeuomenoi[and] as you enter [it] , εὑρήσετεheurēseteyou will find πῶλονpōlona colt δεδεμένονdedemenontied [there] , ἐφ’eph’on ὃνhonwhich οὐδεὶςoudeisno one πώποτεpōpote{has} ever ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōn. . . ἐκάθισε·ekathise[and] sat down . λύσαντεςlysantesUntie αὐτὸνautonit ἀγάγετεagagete[and] bring [it here] .
31καὶkai- ἐάνeanIf τιςtisanyone ὑμᾶςhymas- , ἐρωτᾷerōtaasks διατίdiatiwhy λύετεlyeteare you untying [it] ?’ οὕτωςhoutōs- ἐρεῖτεereitetell [him] , αὐτῷautō- , ὅτιhotithat howhat ΚύριοςKyriosLord αὐτοῦautouit . ’” χρείανchreianneeds ἔχειecheivvv
32ἈπελθόντεςApelthonteswent out δὲdeSo οἱhoithose ἀπεσταλμένοιapestalmenoiwho were sent εὗρονheuron[and] found [it] καθὼςkathōsjust as εἶπενeipen[Jesus] had told αὐτοῖςautoisthem . ἑστῶταhestōtavvv τὸνtonthe πῶλονpōloncolt ,
33λυόντωνlyontōnwere untying δὲdeAs αὐτῶνautōnthey τὸνtonthe πῶλονpōloncolt , εἰπὼνeipōn[Jesus] had said οἱhoithose κύριοιkyrioiowners αὐτοῦautouits πρὸςpros- αὐτούςautous- , ΤίTi“ Why λύετεlyeteare you untying τὸνtonthe πῶλονpōloncolt ? ”
34ΟἱHoi- δὲde- εἰπὼνeipōn[Jesus] had said ὅτιhotithat howhat ΚύριοςKyriosLord αὐτοῦautouit . ’” χρείανchreianneeds ἔχειecheivvv
35καὶkai- ἤγαγονēgagonthey led αὐτὸνauton[the colt] πρὸςprosto τὸνton- ἸησοῦνIēsounJesus , καὶkai- ἐπιρίψαντεςepiripsantesthrew ἑαυτῶνheautōntheir τὰta- ἱμάτιαhimatiacloaks ἐπὶepiover τὸνton- πῶλονpōlon[it] , ἐπεβίβασανepebibasan[and] put [Jesus] on [it] τὸνton. . . ἸησοῦνIēsoun. . . .
36ΠορευομένουPoreuomenourode along , δὲde- αὐτοῦautouAs He ὑπεστρώννυονhypestrōnnyon[ the people ] spread τὰta- ἱμάτιαhimatiacloaks αὐτῶνautōntheir ἐνenon τῇthe ὁδῷhodōroad .
37ἐγγίζοντοςengizontosapproached δὲdeAnd αὐτοῦautouas He ἤδηēdē. . . πρὸςpros- τῇthe καταβάσειkatabaseidescent τοῦtoufrom the ὄρουςorousMount τῶνtōn- ἘλαιῶνElaiōnof Olives , ἤρξαντοērxantobegan ἅπανhapanwhole τὸtothe πλῆθοςplēthosmultitude τῶνtōnof μαθητῶνmathētōndisciples χαίροντεςchairontesjoyfully αἰνεῖνaineinto praise τὸνton- ΘεὸνTheonGod φωνῇphōnēin a loud voice μεγάλῃmegalēvvv περὶperifor πασῶνpasōnall ὧνhōn- εἶδονeidonthey had seen : δυνάμεωνdynameōn[the] miracles
38λέγοντεςlegontes- ΕὐλογημένοςEulogēmenos“ Blessed is hothe ἐρχόμενοςerchomenoswho comes ΒασιλεὺςBasileusKing ἐνenin ὀνόματιonomati[the] name ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord !” εἰρήνηeirēnē“ Peace ἘνEnin οὐρανῷouranōheaven καὶkaiand δόξαdoxaglory ἐνenin ὑψίστοιςhypsistois[the] highest !”
39ΚαίKaiBut τινεςtinessome τῶνtōnof the ΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnPharisees ἀπὸapoin τοῦtouthe ὄχλουochloucrowd εἰπὼνeipōn[Jesus] had said πρὸςprosat αὐτὸνautonit ΔιδάσκαλεDidaskale“ Teacher , ἐπιτίμησονepitimēsonrebuke τοῖςtois- μαθηταῖςmathētaisdisciples ! ” σουsouYour
40ΚαὶKai- ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisHe answered εἶπενeipen. . . , ΛέγωLegō“ I tell ὑμῖνhyminyou , ” ‹ὅτι›hoti- ἐὰνean“ if οὗτοιhoutoithey σιωπήσωσιν,siopesosinremain silent , οἱhoithe very λίθοιlithoistones κεκράξονται.kekraxontaiwill cry out . ”
41ΚαὶKai- ὡςhōsAs ἤγγισενēngisen[Jesus] approached [Jerusalem] ἰδὼνidōn[and] saw τὴνtēnthe πόλινpolincity , ἔκλαυσενeklausenHe wept ἐπ’ep’over αὐτῇautēher ,
42λέγωνlegōn[and] said ὅτιhoti- , ΕἰEi“ If only ἔγνωςegnōsyou had known καὶkai- σὺsyyou καὶkai- γῇsoil ἐνenon τῇ- ἡμέρᾳhēmeraday σουsouyour ταύτῃtautēthis τὰtawhat πρὸςpros[would bring] εἰρήνηνeirēnēnpeace ! σουsouyour νῦνnynnow δὲdeBut ἐκρύβηekrybēit is hidden ἀπὸapofrom ὀφθαλμῶνophthalmōneyes . σουsouyour
43ὅτιhotiFor ἥξουσινhēxousinwill come ἡμέραιhēmerai[the] days ἐπὶepiupon σὲseyou καὶkai[when] περιβαλοῦσινperibalousinvvv οἱhoi- ἐχθροίechthroienemies σουsouyour χάρακάcharakawill barricade σοιsoiyou καὶkaiand περικυκλώσουσίperikuklosousisurround σεseyou καὶkaiand συνέξουσίsunexousihem you in σεseyou πάντοθενpantothenon every side .
44καὶkai- ἐδαφιοῦσίedaphiousiThey will level you to the ground — σεseyou καὶkaiand τὰta- τέκναteknachildren σουsou[the] ἐνenwithin σοίsoiyour [walls] . καὶkai- οὐκoukvvv ἀφήσουσινaphēsousinThey will not leave ἐνen- σοίsoi- , λίθονlithon[another] ἐπὶepion λίθῳlithōstone ἀνθ’anth’because ὧνhōn. . . οὐκoukvvv ἔγνωςegnōsyou did not recognize τὸνtonthe καιρὸνkairontime τῆςtēs- ἐπισκοπῆςepiskopēsvisitation [from God] . ” σουsouof your
45ΚαὶKaiThen εἰσελθὼνeiselthōn[Jesus] entered εἰςeis. . . τὸtothe ἱερὸνhierontemple [courts] ἤρξατοērxato[and] began ἐκβάλλεινekballeinto drive out τοὺςtousthose who πωλοῦνταςpōlountaswere selling [there] . ἦνēn[Jesus] was αὐτῷautō- , ΚαὶKai- ἀγοράζονταςagorazontasbuying
46λέγωνlegōnsaying , αὐτοῖςautoisthem . ΓέγραπταιGegraptai“ It is written : ὅτιhotiFor ho- οἶκόςoikoshouse μουmou‘ My οἶκόςoikoshouse προσευχῆςproseuchēsof prayer .’ ἐστινestinis ὑμεῖςhymeisyou δὲdeBut αὐτὸνautonit ἐποιήσατεepoiēsatehave made ΣπήλαιονSpēlaion‘ a den λῃστῶνlēstōnof robbers .’ ”
47ΚαὶKai- ἦνēn[Jesus] was διδάσκωνdidaskōnteaching τῷthe καθ’kath’every ἡμέρανhēmeranday , ἐνenat τῷthe ἱερῷhierōtemple οἱhoithe δὲdebut ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests , καὶkai- οἱhoi- γραμματεῖςgrammateisscribes , ἐζήτουνezētounwere intent αὐτὸνautonHim . ἀπολέσαιapolesaion killing καὶkaiYet οἱhoi- πρῶτοιprōtoileaders τοῦtouof the λαοῦlaoupeople
48καὶkaiYet οὐχouchvvv εὕρισκονheuriskonthey could not find τὸto- τίtia way ποιήσουσιν·poiesousinto do [so] , hothe λαὸςlaospeople γὰρgarbecause ἅπαςhapasall ἐξεκρέματο*exekrematohung αὐτοῦautouvvv ἀκούωνakouōnon His words .
