2πρεσβυτέραςpresbyterasolder [women] ὡςhōsas μητέραςmēterasmothers , νεωτέραςneōteras[and] younger [women] ὡςhōsas ἀδελφὰςadelphassisters , ἐνenwith πάσῃpasēabsolute ἁγνείᾳhagneiapurity .
3ΧήραςChēras[the] widows τίμαtimaHonor τὰςtaswho [are] ὄντωςontōstruly χήραςchēraswidows .
4εἰeiif δέdeBut τιςtisa χήραchērawidow τέκναteknachildren ēor ἔκγοναekgonagrandchildren , ἔχειecheihas μανθανέτωσανmanthanetōsanthey must first learn πρῶτονprōton. . . τὸνtonto [their] ἴδιονidionown οἶκονoikonfamily εὐσεβεῖνeusebeinto show godliness καὶkaiand ἀμοιβὰςamoibas. . . ἀποδιδόναιapodidonairepay τοῖςtois[their] προγόνοιςprogonoisparents , τοῦτοtoutothis γάρgarfor ἐστίestiI have καλὸνkalonA good καὶkaiand ἀπόδεκτονapodektonpleasing ἐνώπιονenōpionin the sight of τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod .
5[The widow] who [is] δὲde- ὄντωςontōstruly χήραchēra[in need] καὶkaiand μεμονωμένηmemonōmenēleft all alone ἤλπικενēlpikenputs [her] hope ἐπὶepiin ΘεὸνTheonGod καὶkaiand προσμένειprosmeneicontinues ταῖςtaisin [her] δεήσεσιdeesesipraying . καὶkaiand ταῖςtais- προσευχαῖςproseuchaisprayers . νυκτὸςnyktosnight καὶkaiand ἡμέραςhēmerasday
6she who δὲdeBut σπαταλῶσαspatalōsalives for pleasure ζῶσαzōsa[even while she] is still alive . τέθνηκε.tethnekeis dead , ”
7ΚαὶKai- ταῦταtauta. . . , παράγγελλεparangelleGive these instructions [to the believers] ἵναhinaso that ἀνεπίληπτοιanepileptoiabove reproach . ὦσινōsinthey will be
8εἰeiIf δέde- τιςtisanyone τῶνtōn[his] ἰδίωνidiōnown , καὶkaiand μάλισταmalistaespecially [his own] τῶνtōn[his] οἰκείωνoikeiōnhousehold , οὐouvvv προνοεῖpronoeidoes not provide for τὴνtēnthe πίστινpistinfaith ἤρνηταιērnētaihe has denied καὶkaiand ἔστινestinis ἀπίστουapistouan unbeliever . χείρωνcheirōnworse than
9ΧήραChēraA widow καταλεγέσθωkatalegesthōshould be enrolled μὴvvv ἔλαττονelatton[at least] ἐτῶνetōnyears [old] , ἑξήκονταhexēkontasixty γεγονυῖαgegonuiaif she is ἑνὸςhenosof one ἀνδρὸςandrosman , γυνήgynē[the] wife
10ἐνenfor ἔργοιςergoisdeeds καλοῖςkaloisgood μαρτυρουμένηmartyroumenē[and] well known εἰei[such as] ἐτεκνοτρόφησενeteknotrophēsenbringing up children , εἰei- ἐξενοδόχησενexenodochēsenentertaining strangers , εἰei- ἁγίωνhagiōnof the saints , πόδαςpodas[the] feet ἔνιψενenipsenwashing εἰei- θλιβομένοιςthlibomenoisto the afflicted , ἐπήρκεσενepērkesenimparting relief εἰei- παντὶpantievery ἔργῳergōwork . ἀγαθῷagathōgood ἐπηκολούθησε.epekolouthesedevoting herself to
11ΝεωτέραςNeōterasyounger δὲdeBut χήραςchēraswidows . παραιτοῦparaitourefuse [to enroll] ὅτανhotanwhen γὰρgarFor καταστρηνιάσωσιkatastreniasositheir passions draw them away τοῦtou- ΧριστοῦChristoufrom Christ , γαμεῖνgameinto marry , θέλουσινthelousinthey will want
12ἔχουσαιechousai[and thus] will incur κρίμαkrimajudgment ὅτιhotibecause τὴνtēn[their] πρώτηνprōtēnfirst πίστινpistinfaith . ἠθέτησανēthetēsanthey are setting aside
13ἅμαhamaAt the same time δὲde- καὶkaivvv ἀργαὶargai[to be] idle , μανθάνουσιmanthanousithey will also learn περιερχόμεναιperierchomenaigoing from τὰςtas- οἰκίαςoikiashouse to house οὐounot μόνονmonononly δὲdeand {being} ἀργαὶargaiidle , ἀλλὰallabut καὶkaialso φλύαροιphlyaroigossips καὶkaiand περίεργοιperiergoibusybodies , λαλοῦσαιlalousaidiscussing τὰtathings μὴnot [ mention ] . δέονταdeontathey should
14ΒούλομαιBoulomaiI advise οὖνounSo νεωτέραςneōteras[the] younger [widows] γαμεῖνgameinto marry , τεκνογονεῖνteknogoneinhave children , οἰκοδεσποτεῖνoikodespotein[and] manage their households , μηδεμίανmēdemian. . . ἀφορμὴνaphormēnoccasion διδόναιdidonaidenying τῷthe ἀντικειμένῳantikeimenōadversary λοιδορίαςloidoriasslander . χάρινcharinfor
15ἤδηēdēvvv γάρgarFor τινεςtinessome ἐξετράπησανexetrapēsanhave already turned aside ὀπίσωopisōto follow τοῦtou- ΣατανᾶSatanaSatan .
16ΕἴEiIf τιςtisany πιστὸςpistosfaithful {allow} the πιστὴpistēbelieving [woman] ἔχειecheihas χήραςchēras[dependent] widows , ἐπαρκείτωeparkeitōshe must assist αὐταῖςautaisthem καὶkaiand μὴnot βαρείσθωbareisthōto be burdened , {allow} the ἐκκλησίαekklēsiachurch ἵναhinaso that ταῖςtaisthe ὄντωςontōstruly [ in need ] . χήραιςchēraiswidows [who are] ἐπαρκέσῃeparkesēit can help
17ΟἱHoi- καλῶςkalōseffectively προεστῶτεςproestōteswho lead πρεσβύτεροιpresbyteroiElders διπλῆςdiplēsof double τιμῆςtimēshonor , ἀξιούσθωσανaxiousthōsanare worthy μάλισταmalistaespecially οἱhoithose who κοπιῶντεςkopiōnteswork hard ἐνenat λόγῳlogōpreaching καὶkaiand διδασκαλίᾳdidaskaliateaching .
18λέγειlegeisays , γὰρgarFor the γραφήgraphēScripture ΒοῦνBounan ox ἀλοῶνταaloōntawhile it is treading out the grain ,” οὐou“ vvv φιμώσειςphimōseisDo not muzzle καίkaiand , ἌξιοςAxios[is] worthy ho“ The ἐργάτηςergatēsworker τοῦtouof μισθοῦmisthouwages .” αὐτοῦautouhis
19ΚατὰKataagainst πρεσβυτέρουpresbyterouan elder , κατηγορίανkatēgorianan accusation μὴ{Do} not παραδέχουparadechouentertain ἐκτὸςektosexcept εἰei. . . μὴ. . . ἐπὶepion [the testimony of] δύοdyotwo ēor τριῶνtriōnthree μαρτύρωνmartyrōnwitnesses .
20ΤοὺςTousthose who ἁμαρτάνονταςhamartanontaspersist in sin ἐνώπιονenōpionin front of πάντωνpantōneveryone , ἔλεγχεelencheshould be rebuked ἵναhinaso that καὶkai- οἱhoithe λοιποὶloipoiothers φόβονphobonstand in fear [of sin] . ἔχωσι.ekhosiwill
21ΔιαμαρτύρομαιDiamartyromaiI solemnly charge [you] ἐνώπιονenōpionbefore τοῦtou- ΘεοῦTheouGod καὶkaiand ΚυρίουKyriouLord . ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist καὶkaiand τῶνtōnthe ἐκλεκτῶνeklektōnelect ἀγγέλωνangelōnangels ἵναhinato ταῦταtautathese [principles] φυλάξῃςphylaxēsmaintain χωρὶςchōriswithout προκρίματοςprokrimatosbias , μηδὲνmēdennothing ποιῶνpoiōn[and] to do κατὰkataout of πρόσκλισινprosklisinpartiality .
22ΧεῖραςCheirasof hands ταχέωςtacheōsDo not be too quick μηδενὶmēdeni. . . ἐπιτίθειepititheiin the laying on μηδὲmēde[and thereby] κοινώνειkoinōneishare ἁμαρτίαιςhamartiaisin [the] sins ἀλλοτρίαιςallotriaisof others . σεαυτὸνseautonyourself ἁγνὸνhagnonpure . τήρειtēreiKeep
23ΜηκέτιMēketivvv ὑδροπότειhydropoteiStop drinking [only] water ἀλλ’all’Instead , οἴνῳoinōwine ὀλίγῳoligōa little χρῶchrō[and] use διὰdiabecause of τὸνton[your] στόμαχονstomachonstomach σουsouyour καὶkaiand τὰςtas- πυκνάςpyknasfrequent σουsouyour ἀσθενείαςastheneiasailments .
24ΤινῶνTinōnof some ἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnmen αἱhaiThe ἁμαρτίαιhamartiaisins πρόδηλοίprodēloiobvious , εἰσι,eisiare προάγουσαιproagousaigoing ahead of [them] εἰςeisto κρίσινkrisinjudgment ; τισὶtisisome δὲdebut καὶkaivvv ἐπακολουθοῦσινepakolouthousindo [not] surface until later .
25ὡσαύτωςhōsautōsIn the same way καὶkai. . . , τὰta- καλὰkalagood ἔργαergadeeds πρόδηλαprodēla[are] obvious , ἐστίestiI have καὶkaiand even τὰtathe [ones that] ἄλλωςallōs[inconspicuous] ἔχονταechontaare κρυβῆναιkrybēnairemain hidden . οὐouvvv δύνανταιdynantaicannot
