2λέγοντεςlegontesasking , ΠοῦPou“ Where ἐστινestinis hothe [One who] τεχθεὶςtechtheishas been born βασιλεὺςbasileusKing τῶνtōnof the ἸουδαίωνIoudaiōnJews ? εἴδομενeidomenWe saw γὰρgar- αὐτοῦautouHis τὸνton- ἀστέραasterastar ἐνenin τῇthe ἀνατολῇanatolēeast καὶkaiand ἤλθομενēlthomenhave come προσκυνῆσαιproskynēsaito worship αὐτῷautōHim . ”
3ἈκούσαςAkousasheard [this] , δὲdeWhen ἩρῴδηςHērōdēsHerod ho- βασιλεὺςbasileusKing ἐταράχθηetarachthēhe was disturbed , καὶkaiand πᾶσαpasaall ἹεροσόλυμαHierosolymaJerusalem μετ’met’with αὐτοῦautouhim .
4καὶkaiAnd συναγαγὼνsynagagōnwhen he had assembled πάνταςpantasall τοὺςtousthe ἀρχιερεῖςarchiereischief priests καὶkaiand γραμματεῖςgrammateisscribes τοῦtouof the λαοῦlaoupeople , ἐπυνθάνετοepynthanetohe asked παρ’par’. . . αὐτῶνautōnthem ποῦpouwhere hothe ΧριστὸςChristosChrist γεννᾶταιgennataiwas to be born .
5ΟἱHoi- δὲde- εἰπὼνeipōnHe said αὐτῷautō. . . , ἘνEn“ In ΒηθλέεμBēthleemBethlehem τῆςtēs- ἸουδαίαςIoudaiasin Judea , ” οὕτωςhoutōsthis is what γὰρgar“ for γέγραπταιgegraptaihas written : διὰdia- τοῦtouthe προφήτουprophētouprophet
6ΚαὶKai‘ [But] σύsyyou , ΒηθλέεμBēthleemBethlehem , γῆ[in the] land ἸούδαIoudaof Judah , οὐδαμῶςoudamōsby no means ἐλαχίστηelachistēleast εἶeiare ἐνenamong τοῖςtoisthe ἡγεμόσινhēgemosinrulers ἸούδαIoudaof Judah , ἐκekout σοῦsouof you γὰρgarfor ἐξελεύσεταιexeleusetaiwill come ἡγούμενοςhēgoumenosa ruler ὅστιςhostiswho ποιμανεῖpoimaneiwill be the shepherd τὸνton- λαόνlaonpeople μουmouof My τὸνton- ἸσραήλIsraēlIsrael .’ ”
7ΤότεToteThen ἩρῴδηςHērōdēsHerod λάθρᾳlathrasecretly καλέσαςkalesascalled τοὺςtousthe μάγουςmagousMagi ἠκρίβωσενēkribōsen[and] learned παρ’par’from αὐτῶνautōnthem τὸνtonthe χρόνονchronon{exact} time τοῦtouthe φαινομένουphainomenouhad appeared . ἀστέροςasterosstar
8καὶkaiAnd πέμψαςpempsassending αὐτοὺςautousthem εἰςeisto ΒηθλέεμBēthleemBethlehem , εἰπὲeipesay ΠορευθέντεςPoreuthentes“ Go ἐξετάσατεexetasate[and] search ἀκριβῶςakribōscarefully περὶperifor τοῦtouthe παιδίουpaidiouChild , ἐπὰνepanwhen δὲdeand εὕρητεheurēteyou find [Him] , ἀπαγγείλατέapangeilatereport μοιmoito me , ὅπωςhopōsso that κἀγὼkagōI too ἐλθὼνelthōnmay go προσκυνήσωproskynēsō[and] worship αὐτῷautōHim . ”
9ΟἱHoi- δὲdeAfter ἀκούσαντεςakousantesthey had heard τοῦtouthe βασιλέωςbasileōsking , ἐπορεύθησανeporeuthēsanthey went on their way , καὶkaiand ἰδοὺidou- hothe ἀστὴρastērstar ὃνhon- εἶδονeidonthey had seen ἐνenin τῇthe ἀνατολῇanatolēeast προῆγενproēgenwent ahead of αὐτούςautousthem ἕωςheōsuntil ἐλθὼνelthōnvvv ἐστάθηestathēit stood ἐπάνωepanōover οὗhouthe place where ἦνēnwas . τὸtothe παιδίονpaidionChild
10ἰδόντεςidontesthey saw δὲdeWhen τὸνtonthe ἀστέραasterastar , ἐχάρησανecharēsanthey rejoiced χαρὰνcharanwith great delight . μεγάληνmegalēnvvv σφόδραsphodravvv
11καὶkai[On] ἐλθόντεςelthontescoming εἰςeisto τὴνtēnthe οἰκίανoikianhouse , εἶδονeidonthey saw τὸtothe παιδίονpaidionChild μετὰmetawith ΜαρίαςMariasMary , τῆςtēs- μητρὸςmētrosmother αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkaiand πεσόντεςpesontesthey fell down προσεκύνησανprosekynēsan[and] worshiped αὐτῷautōHim . καὶkaiThen ἀνοίξαντεςanoixantesthey opened τοὺςtous- θησαυροὺςthēsauroustreasures αὐτῶνautōntheir προσήνεγκανprosēnenkan[and] presented αὐτῷautōHim δῶραdōrawith gifts χρυσὸνchryson[of] gold καὶkaiand λίβανονlibanonfrankincense καὶkaiand σμύρνανsmyrnanmyrrh .
12ΚαὶKaiAnd χρηματισθέντεςchrēmatisthenteshaving been warned κατ’kat’in ὄναρonara dream μὴnot ἀνακάμψαιanakampsaito return πρὸςprosto ἩρῴδηνHērōdēnHerod , δι’di’by ἄλληςallēsanother ὁδοῦhodouroute . ἀνεχώρησανanechōrēsanthey withdrew εἰςeisto τὴνtēn- χώρανchōrancountry αὐτῶνautōntheir
13ἈναχωρησάντωνAnachōrēsantōnhad gone , δὲdeWhen αὐτῶνautōn[the Magi] ἰδοὺidou- ἄγγελοςangelosan angel κυρίουkyriouof [the] Lord φαίνεταιphainetaiappeared κατ’kat’in ὄναρonara dream . τῷ- ἸωσὴφIōsēphto Joseph λέγωνlegōnhe said . ἘγερθεὶςEgertheis“ Get up ! ” παράλαβεparalabe“ Take τὸtothe παιδίονpaidionChild καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- μητέραmēteramother αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkaiand φεῦγεpheugeflee εἰςeisto ΑἴγυπτονAigyptonEgypt . καὶkai- ἴσθιisthiStay ἐκεῖekeithere ἕωςheōsuntil ἂνan- εἴπωeipōI tell σοιsoiyou , μέλλειmelleiis going γὰρgarfor ἩρῴδηςHērōdēsHerod ζητεῖνzēteinto search for τὸtothe παιδίονpaidionChild τοῦtou- ἀπολέσαιapolesaito kill αὐτόautoHim . ”
14Ho- δὲdeSo ἐγερθεὶςegertheishe got up , παρέλαβενparelabentook τὸtothe παιδίονpaidionChild καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- μητέραmēteramother αὐτοῦautouHis νυκτὸςnyktosby night , καὶkaiand ἀνεχώρησενanechōrēsenwithdrew εἰςeisto ΑἴγυπτονAigyptonEgypt ,
15καὶkai- ἦνēnhe stayed ἐκεῖekeiwhere ἕωςheōsuntil τῆςtēsthe τελευτῆςteleutēsdeath ἩρῴδουHērōdouof Herod . ἵναhinaThis πληρωθῇplērōthēfulfilled τὸtowhat ῥηθὲνrhēthenhad spoken ὑπὸhypo- κυρίουkyriou[the] Lord διὰdiathrough τοῦtouthe προφήτουprophētouprophet λέγοντοςlegontos- : ἘξEx“ Out ΑἰγύπτουAigyptouof Egypt ἐκάλεσαekalesaI called τὸνton- υἱόνhuionSon .” μουmouMy
16ΤότεToteWhen ἩρῴδηςHērōdēsHerod ἰδὼνidōnsaw ὅτιhotithat ἐνεπαίχθηenepaichthēhe had been outwitted ὑπὸhypoby τῶνtōnthe μάγωνmagōnMagi , ἐθυμώθηethymōthēhe was filled with rage . λίανlianvvv καὶkai- ἀποστείλαςaposteilasSending orders , ἀνεῖλενaneilenhe put to death πάνταςpantasall τοὺςtousthe παῖδαςpaidasboys τοὺςtous- ἐνenin ΒηθλέεμBēthleemBethlehem καὶkaiand ἐνen. . . πᾶσιpasi. . . τοῖςtois- ὁρίοιςhorioisvicinity αὐτῆςautēsits ἀπὸapo[who were] διετοῦςdietoustwo years old καὶkaiand κατωτέρωkatōterōunder , κατὰkataaccording to τὸνtonthe χρόνονchronontime ὃνhon- ἠκρίβωσενēkribōsenhe had learned παρὰparafrom τῶνtōnthe μάγωνmagōnMagi .
17τότεtoteThen ἐπληρώθηeplērōthēwas fulfilled : τὸtowhat was ῥηθὲνrhēthenspoken διὰdiathrough ἸερεμίουIeremiouJeremiah τοῦtouthe προφήτουprophētouprophet λέγοντοςlegontos-
18ΦωνὴPhōnē“ A voice ἐνenin ῬαμὰRhamaRamah , ἠκούσθηēkousthēis heard κλαυθμὸςklauthmosweeping καὶkaiand ὀδυρμὸςodyrmosmourning , πολύςpolysgreat ῬαχὴλRhachēlRachel κλαίουσαklaiousaweeping [for] τὰta- τέκναteknachildren , αὐτῆςautēsher καὶkaiand οὐκouk. . . ἤθελενēthelenrefusing παρακληθῆναιparaklēthēnaito be comforted , ὅτιhotibecause οὐκoukno more .” εἰσί.eisiare
19ΤελευτήσαντοςTeleutēsantosdied , δὲdeAfter τοῦtou- ἩρῴδουHērōdouHerod ἰδοὺidou- ἄγγελοςangelosan angel ΚυρίουKyriouof [the] Lord φαίνεταιphainetaiappeared κατ’kat’in ὄναρonara dream τῷto ἸωσὴφIōsēphJoseph ἐνenin ΑἰγύπτῳAigyptōEgypt .
20λέγωνlegōnhe said . ἘγερθεὶςEgertheis“ Get up ! ” παράλαβεparalabe“ Take τὸtothe παιδίονpaidionChild καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- μητέραmēteramother αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkaiand πορεύουporeuougo εἰςeisto γῆνgēn[the] land ἸσραήλIsraēlof Israel , τεθνήκασινtethnēkasinare now dead . ” γὰρgarfor οἱhoithose ζητοῦντεςzētountesseeking τὴνtēnthe ψυχὴνpsychēnlife τοῦtouvvv παιδίουpaidiouChild’s
21Ho- δὲdeSo ἐγερθεὶςegertheis[Joseph] got up , παρέλαβενparelabentook τὸtothe παιδίονpaidionChild καὶkaiand τὴνtēn- μητέραmēteramother , αὐτοῦautouHis καὶkaiand εἰσῆλθενeisēlthenwent εἰςeisto γῆνgēn[the] land ἸσραήλIsraēlof Israel .
22ἀκούσαςakousaswhen he learned δὲdeBut ὅτιhotithat ἈρχέλαοςArchelaosArchelaus βασιλεύειbasileueiwas reigning in τῆςtēs- ἸουδαίαςIoudaiasJudea ἀντὶantiin place of τοῦtou- πατρὸςpatrosfather αὐτοῦautouhis ἩρῴδουHērōdouHerod , ἐφοβήθηephobēthēhe was afraid ἐκεῖekeithere . ἀπελθεῖνapeltheinto go χρηματισθεὶςchrēmatistheishaving been warned δὲdeAnd κατ’kat’in ὄναρonara dream , ἀνεχώρησενanechōrēsenhe withdrew εἰςeisto τὰtathe μέρηmerēdistrict τῆςtēs- ΓαλιλαίαςGalilaiasof Galilee ,
23καὶkaiand ἐλθὼνelthōnhe went κατῴκησενkatōkēsen[and] lived εἰςeisin πόλινpolina town λεγομένηνlegomenēncalled ΝαζαρέτNazaretNazareth . ὅπωςhopōsSo πληρωθῇplērōthēwas fulfilled τὸtowhat ῥηθὲνrhēthenwas spoken διὰdiathrough τῶνtōnthe προφητῶνprophētōnprophets : ὅτιhoti- ΝαζωραῖοςNazōraiosa Nazarene . ” κληθήσεταιklēthēsetai“ He will be called
