Word Interactions
Every word in the text is interactive. Tap or click any word to study it in detail.
Opening the Popover
- Touch devices — tap a word
- Desktop — click a word
- Keyboard — focus a word and press Enter or Space
Opening a word popover pauses audio so you can study without distraction.
What the Popover Shows
- Word — the original Hebrew or Greek text
- Transliteration — pronunciation in Latin characters (e.g., bə·rê·šîṯ for בְּרֵאשִׁית)
- Short definition — a brief English meaning
- Long definition — extended details including grammar, morphology, and cross-references
Popover Buttons
| Action | How | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Play word | Tap the speaker icon | Plays the word once at normal speed |
| Loop word | Long-press the speaker icon (hold ½ second) | Loops the word with gradually decreasing speed: 1x → 0.7x → 0.5x → 0.4x, with a brief pause between each repetition. Tap the stop icon to end the loop |
| Play from here | Tap “Play from here” | Seeks the main audio to this word’s position and plays the chapter/verse from that point |
Closing the Popover
- Tap the × button
- Tap outside the popover
- Press Escape
- Scroll the text
- Tap a different word (opens that word’s popover instead)
Long Press on All Devices
Long press works the same everywhere: hold the speaker icon for about half a second to start looping. On touch devices, moving your finger more than a small distance cancels the long press (so scrolling won’t accidentally trigger it). On desktop, long-click works the same way. On keyboard, hold Enter or Space while the speaker button is focused.

Hebrew Text Options
For Old Testament chapters, the text options button (in the toolbar) opens additional controls:
| Option | Shows | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Vowels (nikud) | Hebrew vowel points | On |
| Cantillation (te’amim) | Hebrew cantillation marks | Off |
Cantillation marks require vowels to be visible. Turning vowels off will automatically disable cantillation. All display preferences are saved and persist across sessions.
