1HoThat which ἦνēnwas ἀπ’ap’from ἀρχῆςarchēs[the] beginning , howhich ἀκηκόαμενakēkoamenwe have heard , howhich ἑωράκαμενheōrakamenwe have seen τοῖςtoiswith ὀφθαλμοῖςophthalmoiseyes , ἡμῶνhēmōnour own howhich ἐθεασάμεθαetheasamethawe have gazed upon καὶkaiand αἱhai[own] χεῖρεςcheireshands — ἡμῶνhēmōnour ἐψηλάφησανepsēlaphēsantouched [with] περὶperi[this is ] τοῦtouthe ΛόγουLogouWord τῆςtēs- ζωῆςzōēsof life .
2καὶkaiAnd [this is] the ζωὴzōēlife ἐφανερώθηephanerōthēthat was revealed ; καὶkai- ἑωράκαμενheōrakamenwe have seen [it] καὶkaiand μαρτυροῦμενmartyroumentestified [to it] , καὶkaiand ἀπαγγέλλομενapangellomenwe proclaim ὑμῖνhyminto you τὴνtēnthe ζωὴνzōēnlife τὴνtēn- αἰώνιονaiōnioneternal ἥτιςhētisthat ἦνēnwas πρὸςproswith τὸνtonthe ΠατέραPateraFather καὶkaiand ἐφανερώθηephanerōthēwas revealed ἡμῖνhēminto us .
3howhat ἑωράκαμενheōrakamenwe have seen καὶkaiand ἀκηκόαμενakēkoamenheard , ἀπαγγέλλομενapangellomenWe proclaim ὑμῖνhyminto you ἵναhinaso that καὶkaialso ὑμεῖςhymeisyou κοινωνίανkoinōnianfellowship ἔχητεechētemay have μεθ’meth’with ἡμῶνhēmōnus . καὶkaiAnd [this] κοινωνίαkoinōniafellowship δὲde- [this] ἡμετέραhēmeteraof ours μετὰmeta[is] with τοῦtouthe ΠατρὸςPatrosFather καὶkaiand μετὰmetawith τοῦtou- ΥἱοῦHuiouSon , αὐτοῦautouHis ἸησοῦIēsouJesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist .
4καὶkai- ταῦταtautathese things γράφομενgraphomenwrite ἡμῖνhēminto us . ἵναhinaso that [this] χαρὰcharajoy ἡμῶνhēmōnour - πεπληρωμένηpeplērōmenēcomplete .
5ΚαὶKaiAnd αὕτηhautēthis ἔστινestinis the ἐπαγγελίαepangeliapromise ἣνhēn- ἀκηκόαμενakēkoamenwe have heard ἀπ’ap’from αὐτοῦautouHim καὶkaiand ἀναγγέλλομενanangellomenannounce ὑμῖνhyminto you ὅτιhoti- : ho- ΘεὸςTheosGod φῶςphōslight , ἐστίestiI have καὶkaiand σκοτίαskotiadarkness ἐνenin αὐτῷautōHim οὐκoukno ἔστινestinthere is οὐδεμίαoudemia[at all] .
6ἘὰνEanIf εἴπωμενeipōmenwe say ὅτιhoti- κοινωνίανkoinōnianfellowship ἔχομενechomenwe have μετ’met’with αὐτοῦautouHim καὶkaiyet ἐνenin τῷthe σκότειskoteidarkness , περιπατῶμενperipatōmenwalk ψευδόμεθαpseudomethawe lie καὶkaiand οὐou{do} not ποιοῦμενpoioumenpractice τὴνtēnthe ἀλήθειανalētheiantruth .
7ἐὰνeanif δὲdeBut ἐνenin τῷthe φωτὶphōtilight περιπατῶμενperipatōmenwe walk ὡςhōsas αὐτόςautosHe ἐστινestinis ἐνenin τῷthe φωτίphōtilight , κοινωνίανkoinōnianfellowship ἔχομενechomenwe have μετ’met’with ἀλλήλωνallēlōnone another , καὶkaiand τὸtothe αἷμαhaimablood ἸησοῦIēsouof Jesus ΧριστοῦChristouChrist . τοῦtou- ΥἱοῦHuiouSon , αὐτοῦautouHis καθαρίζειkatharizeicleanses ἡμᾶςhēmasus ἀπὸapofrom πάσηςpasēsall ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassin .
8ἘὰνEanIf εἴπωμενeipōmenwe say ὅτιhoti- ἁμαρτίανhamartiansin , οὐκoukno ἔχομενechomenwe have ἑαυτοὺςheautousourselves , πλανῶμενplanōmenwe deceive καὶkaiand the ἀλήθειαalētheiatruth οὐκouknot ἔστινestinis ἐνenin ἡμῖνhēminus .
9ἐὰνeanIf ὁμολογῶμενhomologōmenwe confess τὰςtas- ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassins , ἡμῶνhēmōnour πιστόςpistosfaithful ἐστίestiI have καὶkaiand δίκαιοςdikaiosjust ἵναhinato ἀφῇaphēforgive ἡμῖνhēminus τὰςtas[our] ἁμαρτίαςhamartiassins καὶkaiand καθαρίσῃkatharisēto cleanse ἡμᾶςhēmasus ἀπὸapofrom πάσηςpasēsall ἀδικίαςadikiasunrighteousness .
10ἐὰνeanIf εἴπωμενeipōmenwe say ὅτιhoti- οὐχouchvvv ἡμαρτήκαμενhēmartēkamenwe have not sinned , ψεύστηνpseustēna liar , ποιοῦμενpoioumenwe make Him out to be αὐτὸνauton. . . καὶkaiand ho- λόγοςlogosword αὐτοῦautouHis οὐκouknot ἔστινestinis ἐνenin ἡμῖνhēminus .
